Raj Thackeray visits Uddhav to wish him on his birthday. ‘I am overwhelmed', says Uddhav
This is Raj's second visit to the Thackeray residence in nearly two decades, since parting ways with the Shiv Sena and forming the MNS.
The two cousins spent around 20 minutes together in what was described as a warm and emotional interaction. Raj presented a large bouquet of roses to Uddhav.
Speaking briefly to the media after the meeting, Uddhav appeared visibly emotional. 'I am overwhelmed… I am not able to speak,' he said, declining to elaborate.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders welcomed the meeting as senior leader Bhaskar Jadhav called it 'a foundation for the reunion of two brothers and Maharashtra's glorious future.'
Earlier, Raj had visited Matoshree to invite Uddhav for a wedding function.
Raj arrived at Matoshree around noon, accompanied by senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar. Ahead of the visit, Nandgaonkar had informed Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut about Raj's plan to call on Uddhav.
The visit comes at a politically significant moment, amid growing speculation about a potential alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. The buzz intensified after the two parties jointly organised a pro-Marathi rally on July 5 — seen as a thaw in relations and a symbolic step towards political reconciliation.
During the July 5 event both had given indication of future alliance, with Uddhav saying, 'we have come together today, to stay together forever.'

Trump administration to screen immigrants for ‘anti-American' views
The Trump administration plans to scrutinize social media for 'anti-American ideologies" when deciding to grant visa or green-card applications. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the primary agency in charge of legal immigration, said Tuesday that its officers should give significant weight to evidence that an immigrant 'has any involvement in anti-American or terrorist organizations" when reviewing residency, work and visa applications. When it comes to what registers as anti-American ideology, the updated guidance points to a provision of immigration law dating back to the Cold War that prohibits immigrants from becoming U.S. citizens if they are members of communist or anarchist organizations. It doesn't specify the range of speech the administration would categorize as anti-American. The Department of Homeland Security didn't respond to a request for clarification. 'America's benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies," USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser said Tuesday. Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, a national immigrant advocacy group, said relying on broad phrases to determine eligibility to live and work in the U.S. could be problematic. 'The term anti-American is ill-defined and malleable," he said. 'What one person may consider anti-American another person might consider pro-American." The latest directive builds on the agency's April announcement that it would screen immigrants' social media for evidence of antisemitism. As part of that shift, many immigrants, including those applying for tourist or student visas to the U.S., must now submit their social-media handles and make their profiles public for officers to review. It is another step in the Trump administration's goal of not only reducing overall immigration levels, but also in shaping the types of immigrants permitted to come to the country. The administration has also used allegations of anti-American and antisemitic activity against students who have participated in pro-Palestine protests. The administration also tightened citizenship standards last week in a separate policy memorandum that said applicants will need to prove 'good moral character." That includes contributing to the community, having a good education, holding down a job and paying taxes on time, according to Homeland Security. Political blame-game kicks off over Mithi desilting
MUMBAI: As the Mithi River nearly touched its 'danger mark' of 4 meters, in the aftermath of incessant rainfall, on Tuesday, leaders of political parties wasted no time in plunging into an act of blame-game, over the river's desilting endeavours. Thane, India - April 05, 2023: Aaditya Thackeray speaks during the Janprakshobh Morcha, a protest rally by MVA activists from Shivsena (UBT), NCP and Congress, against Thane Police for its failure to take action against the culprits who assaulted UBT woman activist Roshni Shinde, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ground to Thane Police Commissionerate Office, at Kharkar Ali Ground, in Thane, India, on Wednesday, April 05, 2023. (Praful Gangurde/HT Photo) (HT PHOTO) While Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray questioned the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), controlled by the ruling Mahayuti government for the last three years, for failing to take measures to control the annual flooding of the city, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis put the blame on the alleged irregularities in Mithi's desilting. During the recent monsoon session of the state legislature, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators had targeted Aaditya Thackeray over the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) inquiry into actor Dino Morea's role in the alleged ₹65.54 scam related to desilting tenders. Morea is Thackeray's friend. After a review meeting with bureaucrats on Tuesday, Fadnavis called attention to the (earlier undivided) Shiv Sena rule 'when desilting of Mithi was ignored'. 'One of the reasons for waterlogging in Mumbai is related to Mithi river and what happened in the past regarding the work of its desilting,' said the CM. Thackeray called attention to the flood-like situation in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on X. 'Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivili and Vasai-Virar are victims of an absolute collapse of governance. While the rains are battering the cities, the meteorological dept has sent out red alerts to the government. Instead of photo ops, the ministers should have ensured that respective municipal corporations are ready to tackle the heavy rains,' he said. He also underscored the lacunae in the system – pumps should have been placed at critical spots in advance, after ascertaining their capacity and efficiency, he said. He also demanded that the state government financially compensate 'all the citizens whose homes were flooded'. 'Now release a report on new flood spots and why they were created. Additionally, mark the new spots where infra works are on and penalise the contractors,' said Thackeray.
