UAE dominate adult division at 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

The UAE national jiu-jitsu team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, maintained their dominant performance at the 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Amman, Jordan, winning first place in the adult division.
Following an excellent performance in the women's category on Day 2, the team added five more medals—two gold, one silver, and two bronze—bringing the national total to 12 and securing the lead in the overall adults category rankings.
The UAE's female athletes took to the mats with confidence and purpose, achieving world-class performances against some of Asia's best competitors.
Aysha Alshamsi (45kg) and Shamma Al Kalbani (63kg) won gold medals, Mariam Al Ali took silver (45kg), and Hamda Alshkeili (48kg) and Asma Al Hosani (52kg) won bronze.
Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation's Director of Technical Department, hailed the athletes' and coaching staff's outstanding achievement, citing months of thorough preparation.
'Our female fighters exhibited outstanding talent and poise, demonstrating that we have a highly competitive group of athletes capable of competing on both the continental and global platforms.
'These successes were not by happenstance; they are the result of long-term vision, continuous support from our wise leadership, and a federation strategy based on empowerment and excellence.'
Shamma Al Kalbani, who won gold in the 63kg division, added, 'This victory means the world to me. It is the result of continuous training and maintaining consistent mental discipline from start to finish.
'Standing on the awarding platform and hearing the UAE national anthem was a powerful and emotional moment—a reminder of the pride and purpose behind every match. I'm honoured to raise the UAE flag and remain committed to achieving even greater milestones.'
Aysha Alshamsi, a gold medallist who won gold in the 45kg division, highlighted the team's solid preparation.
'I felt an enormous sense of success when I went upon the podium and saw the UAE flag rise. It's a memory I'll keep forever.'
Further podium results are expected in the Under-21 division as the UAE seeks to cement their supremacy in the championship rankings.
The team won seven medals on the first day of the event. Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, congratulated the athletes, citing sustained support from wise leadership as a key factor in their continental success.

The event drew a large crowd and created an energetic atmosphere, featuring top athletes across the under-18, adult, and master categories. The final day witnessed fierce contests that showcased a high technical level, reflecting the rapid development of jiu-jitsu in the UAE and its leading role on the global stage. Experienced athletes delivered strong performances, raising the level of competition and intensity. At the end of the round, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club topped the overall standings, with M.O.D UAE in second place and Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in third. The closing ceremony was attended by H.E. Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Abdulrazzaq Al Hashemi, Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Games Company; Mohammed Mubarak, Director of Aviation Security and Hazardous Materials; Nayef Ibrahim, Senior Director of Operations and Events at Dubai Economy and Tourism; Hashem Al Quraishi, Director of Contracts and Purchasing Department at Dubai Municipality; and Dalal Ibrahim Al Raisi, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience at Q Mobility. At the end of the opening day, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club topped the standings, followed by Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in second place and ADMA in third. The first day featured strong competition in the under-12, under-14, and under-16 categories. Athletes demonstrated high technical levels, quick reactions, and precise execution to amass points under the championship's classification system, designed to ensure fairness and reinforce competitiveness among players and clubs. The day's competitions were attended by H.E. Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; H.E. The importance of jiu-jitsu is clear, not only in promoting self-confidence, determination, and perseverance, but also in its diverse physical benefits. Today we witnessed an impressive crowd and excellent organisation, reflecting the sport's rising popularity and the strong support it enjoys across the UAE.' Javid Mohammadzadeh, father of Javad Mohammadzadeh, a Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club athlete competing in the under-16 60 kg category, said, 'Javad has been practising jiu-jitsu for many years. He chose the sport himself and has a deep passion for it, dedicating long hours to training. Competing in such an important championship gives him a chance to learn, grow, and test himself against athletes of different levels.' The event concludes tomorrow with competitions in the under-18, adult, and master categories.
