Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 14 - Woody Sauldsberry (1957-60)
The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history.
Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego.
To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the 12th of 13 players who wore the No. 14 jersey for the Warriors.
That player would be Golden State big man alum Woody Sauldsberry. After ending his college career at Texas Southern, Sauldsberry was picked up with the 60th overall selection of the 1957 NBA draft by the (then) Philadelphia (now, Golden State) Warriors.
The Winnsboro, Louisiana native would play the first three seasons of his pro career with the Dubs, coming to an end when he was dealt to the (then) St. Louis (now, Atlanta) Hawks in 1960.
During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Sauldsberry wore only jersey No. 14 and put up 12.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Russell Westbrook won't exercise $3.5 million option for next season, AP source says

Russell Westbrook will not be exercising his $3.5 million player option with the Denver Nuggets for next season and will instead become a free agent, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday. The decision doesn't necessarily mean that Westbrook won't be back with the Nuggets, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side revealed the decision publicly. NBA reporter Marc Stein first reported Westbrook's decision, which was later confirmed by ESPN and The Denver Post, among others. Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists for the Nuggets this season — his 17th in the NBA — and helped Denver reach the second round of the playoffs, falling in seven games to eventual Western Conference champion Oklahoma City. He underwent surgery after the season to repair multiple ligament tears in his right hand, an issue he played through during the season. At that time, Westbrook posted in his newsletter than he was 'grateful for everyone's support all year and I can't wait to be back out there at 100% soon. The comeback is already in motion.' That would indicate that he is planning to play somewhere next season. Westbrook is a nine-time All-Star, nine-time All-NBA selection and won the MVP award after the 2016-17 season. He's also part of the NBA's 75th anniversary team and has averaged 21.2 points and eight assists per game over his career. ___

Sixers prospect Tre Johnson compared to 2 legitimate NBA scorers

Sixers prospect Tre Johnson compared to 2 legitimate NBA scorers As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the 2025 NBA draft and weigh all options with the No. 3 pick, there are plenty of avenues they can go down to improve the roster. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is never one to shy away from making a deal that he feels will help the roster going forward. The Sixers will have a number of players to look at in order to add a good, young player to the roster, and one of those options is Texas product Tre Johnson. Johnson averaged 19.9 points for the Longhorns as a freshman in the tough SEC. He shot 39.7% from deep and played 34.7 minutes per night while being the guy for Texas on a regular basis. ESPN has NBA comparisons for the lottery picks and they compared Johnson to former All-Star guard Michael Redd on the high end and Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas on the low end who are both legitimate NBA scorers. Redd was an All-Star in 2004 and Thomas is a threat to score 40 every night. ESPN on Johnson: Johnson is a fairly simple prospect to understand. He's likely going to shoot it well; he's probably going to shoot a lot; and whatever else he ends up giving his future team will be gravy, not necessarily baked into their expectations. Johnson's clean and compact stroke will make him a threat from long range, and he has flashed ability to get to it off the dribble, with a level of fearlessness required to succeed as a volume scorer but also one that can get him into trouble with shot selection at times. His efficiency inside the paint and finishing will have to improve, too. One has to wonder what the Sixers are thinking. Nobody seems to know--which is a good thing, by the way--as Philadelphia seems to be holding all the cards for June 25. At this point, the Sixers just need to continue doing their due diligence on the prospects and trust that Morey and his staff will make the right decision.
