Sam Thompson makes surprise Soccer Aid appearance as he comes on as a sub just days after pulling out with injury
SOCCER Aid fans were treated to a surprise Sam Thompson appearance - as he came on as a sub just days after pulling out. The Sun revealed Sam, 32, had been ruled out of playing due to injuries sustained in his epic marathon challenge. 4 4 He made the gruelling 260-mile trip from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford via foot and bike. Despite this, the former Made in Chelsea star ultimately did join his teammates on the pitch. It meant he played in the same England side as One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, 33, who is now dating Sam's ex Zara McDermott. The couple split in December, with Zara moving on with Louis. Sam and Louis were pictured training this week at Soccer Aid HQ in Tring, Herts, where the England and Rest of the World teams are preparing for the match. In the end, World XI ultimately claimed the win courtesy of a goal from Big Zuu. Regarding Sam's initial exit, a source said previously: 'Sam is gutted he can't play, but the match has just come too soon since his efforts. 'He's still going to be a presence and play a big part in the coverage but he won't be able to compete on the field.' The source added: 'There is a small blessing in his withdrawal as the focus on him and Louis will disperse. 'Their every move will be watched so it's a relief in some ways they won't be on the pitch together.' Jill Scott captained the England team, with other stars such as Mo Farah, Alex Brooker and Tom Grennan also taking part. Elsewhere, Paddy McGuinness was left starstruck at the event when he shared a selfie with a Hollywood legend. The presenter - who played in goal for England's team- posed for a picture with Julia Roberts. Paddy captioned: "Just chilling with Jules. @juliaroberts @socceraid #legend #icon." A follower commented: "As you do. She's just a girl sat in front of a boy", referencing Julia's role in Notting Hill." Another wrote: "This photo makes me ridiculously happy! Absolute stars!" A third shared: "You are a lucky lucky man." While a fourth wrote: "Can't believe she's there."

Nick Castellanos blasts grand slam as Phillies crush Blue Jays
June 15 - Nick Castellanos hit a grand slam, rookie Otto Kemp went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Alec Bohm also homered and drove in three runs as the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game series sweep of the visiting Toronto Blue Jays with an 11-4 victory on Sunday afternoon. It was the second grand slam of the season for Castellanos and the ninth of his career, tied for third among active players behind Manny Machado (12) of the San Diego Padres and Giancarlo Stanton (11) of the New York Yankees. Castellanos had a chance to hit another grand slam in the seventh but flew out to the edge of the left field warning track. Kyle Schwarber reached base four times with two hits and two walks and also drove in two runs. Trea Turner, Max Kepler, J.T. Realmuto and Bohm each had two hits for Philadelphia, which won its fourth straight game. Ten different players had at least one hit for the Phillies, who finished with 18 hits. Zack Wheeler (7-2) picked up the win allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. He struck out nine and didn't walk a batter. Ernie Clement went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Toronto. Jose Berrios (2-3) suffered the loss allowing six runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Berrios, who had allowed just one run in his three previous starts covering 18 2/3 innings, gave up two hits and a run on his first two pitches of the game as Philadelphia jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. Turner led off with a double over the third base bag and then scored on a single to center by Schwarber. The Phillies increased the lead to 2-0 in the third on an RBI single by Bohm and made it 4-0 in the fourth on a two-run single by Kemp. Toronto cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Alan Roden and a throwing error by Wheeler that allowed Clement to score. Bohm put the Phillies back in front by four runs, 6-2, in the bottom of the fifth with a 433-foot two-run homer to left, and Castellanos then broke the game open with his grand slam off reliever Erik Swanson in the sixth, a 385-foot line drive to left. --Field Level Media
