Fatah: Egypt Plays Central Role in Arab, Palestinian Affairs

Egypt continues to play a central and pivotal role in Arab affairs, particularly the Palestinian cause, according to Abdel Fattah Dawla, spokesperson for the Palestinian Fatah movement.
Speaking from Ramallah via video link during an interview on the program "Up Close with Amal El-Hanawy," aired on Alqahera News Channel*, Dawla praised Cairo's "sincere and tireless" efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza that would spare Palestinians from what he described as an "ongoing massacre."
'This Eid al-Adha arrives while Palestinians are still being killed, and the world stands helpless in the face of this slaughter,' he said. Dawla characterized the war as a "genocide" and stressed that despite growing international demands for an end to the war, real progress remains elusive.
He expressed confidence in Arab mediation efforts—especially those led by Egypt and Qatar—describing them as genuine attempts to halt the bloodshed and protect Palestinian lives.
Dawla also emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement, arguing that Washington is the only power capable of applying effective pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 'If it were up to Egypt and Saudi Arabia alone, we would have reached an agreement long ago,' he said. 'But it is Netanyahu who has thwarted these efforts.'

OPEN// FM lauds ongoing progress in relations with Turkey
CAIRO, June 8 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised on Sunday the ongoing progress in bilateral relations with Turkey, following a series of high-level reciprocal visits between the two countries. In a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's eagerness to further strengthen economic, investment and trade cooperation, leveraging the substantial capabilities and opportunities available to both friendly nations. The call is part of regular diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening Egyptian-Turkish cooperation and exchanging views on key developments in the Middle East. The two foreign ministers discussed major regional issues, with a special focus on the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty briefed his Turkish counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire deal, facilitate the release of hostages and detainees and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, as well as shelters, to the Palestinian population. They also exchanged views on developments in Libya, particularly recent events in Tripoli. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance on preserving Libya's unity and territorial integrity and emphasized the importance of a purely Libyan-led political process. Yemen's Al-Qaeda branch leader threatens Trump, Musk, and others - Region
The leader of Al-Qaeda's Yemen branch has threatened both U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk over the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in his first video message since taking over the group last year. The half-hour video message by Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, which spread online early Saturday via supporters of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, also included calls for lone-wolf militants to assassinate leaders in Egypt, Jordan, and the Gulf Arab states over the war, which has decimated Gaza. The video of al-Awlaki's speech showed images of Trump and Musk, as well as U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth. It also included images of logos of Musk's businesses, including the electric carmaker Tesla. 'There are no red lines after what happened and is happening to our people in Gaza," al-Awlaki said. "Reciprocity is legitimate.' Yemen's Al-Qaeda branch long thought to be most dangerous Though believed to be weakened in recent years due to infighting and suspected U.S. drone strikes killing its leaders, the group known by the acronym AQAP had been considered the most dangerous branch of Al-Qaeda still operating after the 2011 killing by U.S. Navy SEALs of founder Osama bin Laden, who masterminded the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. In 2022, a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan killed bin Laden's successor, Ayman al-Zawahri, who also helped plot 9/11. The Sept. 11 attacks then began decades of war by the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq, and fomented the rise of the Islamic State group. Al-Awlaki already has a $6 million U.S. bounty on his head, as Washington says al-Awlaki 'has publicly called for attacks against the United States and its allies.' He replaced AQAP leader Khalid al-Batarfi, whose death was announced by the group in 2024.
