Cadbury unveils 'world's largest' Creme Egg

BBC News07-04-2025

Chocolatiers have unveiled what they say is the world's largest Cadbury Creme Egg.Funny foodstuffs had seemed to reach their zenith as recently as Friday, when the King had a blow on a carrot whistle. But not to be outdone, Cadbury has since raised the stakes with its oval ambition.Just how big, though, is the colossal confectionery? Well, let's just say you might bite off more than you can chew, and definitely wouldn't want to drop it on your foot. Cadbury proudly states it to be as tall as an emperor penguin, with the poundage of a newborn horse - or, in old money, 3ft (90cm) and 7st 1lbs (45kg).
And what's more, not a bit of the brown behemoth - on display at Birmingham tourist attraction Cadbury World - is fake. It's real chocolate, with real gooey fondant filling and even has the signature touch of the engraved twinkle. The only bit of the Easter treat that isn't quite legit is the wrapping. It's actually a painted veneer, presumably because there was not a piece of foil large enough, lest a run on crinkly silver lead to stale sarnies. Terry Collins, who made the egg with fellow chocolatier Dawn Jenks, said nobody "gets to eat the egg unfortunately". Although asked whether not even he got to have a little nibble, he confessed to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I was tempted during creation, I won't lie."He said: "Here at Cadbury World we normally do creations for each season and we were just thinking 'what better way to celebrate Easter than something as iconic as a Creme Egg?' and we figured 'we've got to go [as] massive as we can with it'."The pair crafted it by hand over two-and-a-half days.
Asked why it was so heavy, Mr Collins said: "That would be just purely down to the amount of chocolate we used and fondant."To actually make the egg we've had to have a mould, which we've got two sides of, and then we have to build up the chocolate by hand to make sure that the egg actually stays intact."Ms Jenks said: "We challenged ourselves to create something unique and memorable this Easter. "Replicating the much-loved Cadbury Creme Egg on an extra-large scale was an ambitious project, and it has been so rewarding to see the vision brought to life."The egg is on display at Cadbury World's chocolate-making zone until 27 April.

Elizabeth Hurley, 60, strips down to birthday suit and confesses she's 'in love'

Elizabeth Hurley has celebrated turning 60 in style by sharing a cheeky picture in just her birthday suit, confessing she is 'in love'. In her Instagram post, the Austin Powers icon hinted at a 'wild ride' year, which included hard launching her relationship with Billy Ray Cyrus, 63. The pair shocked the world by posting a picture of them kissing on Instagram after meeting on the set of the 2022 film Christmas in Paradise. Weeks later, they were loved up in Rome, walking arm in arm at a Valentino event so things seem to be going strong so far with the famous duo. There was no direct mention of the Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker in her birthday post as Elizabeth stripped down for her 60th — but there was a subtle message to him. 'Happy birthday to me!' Liz captioned the snap on her social media, a sentiment echoed by her friends and family in the comments. She continued: 'This year has already been a wild ride; my 30th year of working with the Estée Lauder Companies, my 30th year as the Global Ambassador of the @esteelaudercompanies Breast Cancer Campaign, the 20th anniversary of @elizabethhurleybeach.' Somewhat casually, the model then revealed she is 'in love', which was followed by plenty of heart emojis. Presumably, she means in love with Billy Ray, who she went official with in April after his split with ex-wife Firerose, 36. 'Feeling very blessed and grateful for having the best friends & family in the world,' Liz said before casually adding: 'Pic taken this afternoon… in my birthday suit xxx.' Over on his Instagram, Billy Ray wished happy birthday to 'the love of my life ❤️' and shared a snap of them together. Liz responded with heart reactions, meanwhile, on her post birthday wishes flooded in from famous faces such as Sarah Michelle Gellar and Richard E. Grant. Her son Damian, 23, wrote: 'Hahahah I LOVE YOU ♥️♥️♥️ happy birthday mama xxx.' 'Congratulations beautiful smart funny Elizabeth ❤️ Wishing you the best birthday. Love you 🥳❤️😘,' added Heidi Klum. Actress Patsy Kensit, 57, penned: 'To my dearest wonderful friend for nearly 30 years …. So privileged to be spending your birthday with you and your glorious family… I never want to leave I have had the best day celebrating you.. 'Your the most beautiful kind human being and I will always love you forever… thank you for including me today and making magical memories and see you with your true love Billy who is so fabulous I'm so happy for you both and aunt ratticus loved her time with my gorgeous nephew D… one of the most special days I've had in a very long time. I love you ratticus rat ❤️❤️. [sic]' Liz and Billy Ray have not publicly spoken about their romance but a source confirmed to People Magazine she reached out after their film together. They said: 'Liz is great and visited him for Easter. They've been seeing each other romantically for a little bit. 'And how lucky is he? Liz is lovely. She's very warm, positive and the best to be around.' More Trending Billy Ray was previously married to Cindy Smith from 1986 to 1991, and then Tish Cyrus from 1993 to 2022, with whom he shares five kids, including Grammy-winning pop star Miley Cyrus, 32. Liz was previously married to Indian entrepreneur and businessman Arun Nayar from 2007 to 2010, and shared son Damian, 23, with late American businessman Steve Bing. She also had high-profile relationships with actor Hugh Grant – for 13 years – and cricket star Shane Warne, to whom she was engaged between 2011 and 2013 before amicably parting ways ahead of his death aged 52 in March 2022. The exciting new flavour also comes in a fancy wrapper that changes colour when chilled. ‌ Included on the wrapper is a graphic of white white outline of a mug and straw that has a coffee-coloured swirl on it. An ice-blue swirl is revealed on the design when its chilled, with the graphic using thermochromic technology. Claire Hughes MP was gifted ticket to the BAFTA Games Awards

Ms Hughes, who was elected last July, has declared the ticket on her register of financial interests. This states that, on April 8, the UK Interactive Entertainment Association Ltd gifted the ticket, valued at £700, which she accepted the same day. The BAFTA Games Awards, which were this year held on April 8 and hosted by comedian Phil Wang, celebrates achievements in the video game industry in the last 12 months. Ms Hughes' Labour colleague, Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols, was also gifted hospitality at the event, also worth £700. Ms Nichols stated in her own register of financial interests that this was 'in my capacity as chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on video games and e-sports". Ms Hughes is not a member of this APPG. All of the other items on Ms Hughes' register of financial interests date back to last year. These include a £10,000 donation from Labour Together Ltd, which was 'to support campaign activities leading up to the general election'. Ms Hughes was approached for further comment by the Pioneer. She posted on her Facebook page this afternoon: "Wales is starting to become a significant player in the global gaming landscape. But I want North Wales to have a much bigger slice of the pie. "At the start of Easter recess, I attended the BAFTA Games Awards celebrating the best of the UK games industry with UK Interactive Entertainment. "I'm not a gamer myself. As someone who previously worked in the sector, though, I recognise the massive value of the sector and opportunity for growth; the video games sector is bigger than the music and film sectors combined, contributing almost £7bn a year to UK GVA. "Recent growth in video games in Wales is thanks partly to support from Welsh Government including the Games Scale Up Fund for Wales, which last week announced a total of £850,000 funding support for Wales-based developers via Creative Wales. "But with the creative industries highlighted as one of the key growth areas in the UK Government's upcoming Industrial Strategy, we could be doing much more to encourage young people to consider a career in immersive entertainment, and to support up-and-coming businesses to thrive. "We have brilliant opportunities for people to gain the skills to build a career in the industry in our area - Coleg Llandrillo have long offered highly respected courses in 3D arts and games development, and the recent investment in a state-of-the-art new campus in Bangor makes it clear the Welsh Government is serious about putting pounds behind promises. "I hope that in future years, we will see games made in Wales featured at the gaming BAFTAs. More than that, though - I want more young people in Bangor Aberconwy knowing that a career in video games is up for grabs. "I'll be doing more on this over the summer, including workshops for school-leavers and an industry roundtable. If this is something you're interested in being part of, get in touch."
