AWFUL TIME Tragic Irish athlete, 22, mourned after untimely death as club vow 'you will always be remembered'
TRIBUTES have poured in for Irish athlete Oisin Cassidy since the 22-year-old's tragic death from cancer on Monday.
Oisin has been remembered as a "talented and humble" young man who was well-known for his passion for running in his home county of Fermanagh.

His rip.ie post describes how he died "peacefully, after a long illness surrounded by his heartbroken family".
It adds: "Deeply regretted by his sorrowing mother, aunt, uncle, granddad, cousins and extended family circle."
His funeral is to take place today, August 13 at St Ninnidh's Church in his hometown of Derrylin.
Among the tributes paid to him since Monday's awful news broke, the Mark Kirk Running Group hailed him for being a "valuable member" of their training group.
Their Facebook post read: "We have just heard today the very sad news of the death of Oisin Cassidy who was a valued member of the training group and one of the founder members of Candour Track Club.
"'Cass' a master of fantasy football league will missed by all his teammates and running friends. Sincerest condolences to all his family circle."
Furthermore, Rock Runners - who are a community-based run club in Derrylin - added a heartfelt tribute of their own.
They reflected: "We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend, Oisin Cassidy this morning.
"Oisin was an exceptionally talented runner, both locally and nationally, representing Athletics NI in international competitions. He was also a proud multiple time winner of our very own 5K race.
"Throughout his illness, Oisin showed remarkable strength, dignity, and kindness.

"Even during his toughest days he thought of others allowing us to host the 5/10K Around the Rock event in his honour, raising an incredible amount for his chosen cancer charities.
"But most of all we will remember Oisin as a kind inspirational young man who was highly respected in our community and we extend our deepest sympathy to his mum Veronica and all of the Cassidy family. Rest easy Oisin."
Another local running club, OMG AC, wrote: "It is with much sadness that we learned today of the passing of Oisin Cassidy. Oisin was such a talented but humble young man.
"He bore his illness with courage and not a complaint. We send all our love to Oisín's mum, Veronica Cassidy, and all his wider family circle and his friends. Oisin and all of you will always be remembered by OMG AC."
GAA CLUB'S MEMORIES
Throughout his childhood and adolescence he'd also represented the local GAA club who similarly paid their respects as the entire community came to terms with his life being cut short.
Derrylin O'Connells hailed: "Our club is in shock and mourning at the tragic passing of Oisin Cassidy.
"Oisin proudly represented our club at under age levels and was part of our Under 12 Division 1 league winning team in 2015.
"Oisin a talented, humble and gifted athlete used his athletic prowess to occupy the midfield and wing half back positions in our teams.
"Oisin would cover every blade of grass when he was on field, with surging runs his trademark.
"Oisin had made a return to play with our senior team, unfortunately his diagnosis prevented him from playing with his friends.
"He did however fulfil a vital role for our senior team last year by being our 'Stats man' a role he fulfilled with due diligence.
"Our deepest condolences go out to Oisin's mother Veronica, the whole Cassidy family and Oisin's friends and teammates.
"As a mark of respect all club activities will be postponed until after Oisin is laid to rest."

Dubliner Adeleke only opened her season back in June as she clocked 50.42 seconds in the stacked Diamond League meet in Norway. Adeleke narrowly missed out on a podium spot in the fiercely competitive sprint as Isabella Whittaker stormed to victory in 49.58 second. But a further withdrawal in Monaco hampered any momentum as she was forced to think about her injury problems. And Adeleke also pulled out of the Irish Nationals earlier this month due to injury. In a heartfelt statement posted on social media, the Irish sprint star explained her decision. An Instagram post read: "This season has tested me in more ways than I ever anticipated. Rhasidat Adeleke to miss World Championships due to 'injuries and continuous setbacks'

Rhasidat Adeleke will miss the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo and has called a halt on her season after struggling to overcome recent injury setbacks. 'This season has tested me in more ways than I ever anticipated,' she wrote on Instagram on Monday night. 'Lingering injuries & continuous setbacks made it increasingly difficult to train & perform at the level I expect from myself. Following yet another recent roadblock, I'm saddened to share that I'm unable to finish out this season.' Adeleke had qualified for next month's World Championships in Tokyo in both the 200m and 400m but the 22-year-old had been struggling to hit top form throughout the summer, her best 400m time of 50.42 ranking her 26th in the world while her 200m best of 22.52 ranked her 36th. Her withdrawal deals a huge blow to the Irish team ahead of the showpiece event of the year, particularly the hopes of the women's 4x400m team, which finished fourth in last year's Olympic final. Adeleke finished fourth in the last world 400m final in Budapest two years ago and fourth in the Olympic final last year. Keen to win her first global championship medal in 2025, she decided to bypass the indoor season to lay a big foundation of training for the summer. However, she was unable to reproduce the form she showed over the previous two seasons, her most recent outing being a fourth-place finish over 200m at the London Diamond League in July, where she clocked 22.52. 'I'll take this time to heal, recover and do what's necessary so I can show up next season as my best self, mind and body,' she wrote. 'I'm so grateful to everyone that shows me unwavering support. It means the world. Much love – R.'

Ireland rugby star poses hailed as ‘genuine top bloke' for visit to cafe before closure

Josh van der Flier 'delighted' the owners of the Galway café during his visit. Irish rugby star Josh van der Flier has been spotted on a visit to a Galway café this week as he stopped to pose with surprised staff. The Steam Café in Clifden were shocked and 'delighted' to receive a visit from the Wicklow-born flanker who was in the county on holidays. The star headed into the Connemara town for lunch on Friday and clearly made a good impression as staff described him as a 'genuine top bloke'. The café, which announced its imminent closure earlier this year, said that Van Der Flier wished them the best of luck on their new health and fitness venture during his visit. Genuine top bloke wishing us well on our new adventure.' It has been a bittersweet time for the café, whose owners announced the closure of the popular spot on August 4 with a post that read: 'This doesn't feel quite real but we wanted to let you all know that after 22 wonderful years this will be our last season. 'Steam has been our whole life, we have grown so much, built so many amazing friends, had so much fun, learnt so much and enjoyed every moment. 'Thank you to all our wonderful customers and friends a lot of whom have been with us from the beginning. Thank you for supporting and believing in two whipper snapper young ones fuelled with a very hazy vision to build Steam into what it has become today. 'We are beyond grateful. It is really difficult to leave a thriving business but for various reasons it feels like the right time. We have been building a health and fitness business for the last few years so our plan is to develop and expand this. 'The immediate future is two more busy months with us at helm but we felt this was the moment to break the news.'
