KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament of Dewan Rakyat which opens today will see debates on the direction of the country's foreign policy after the ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, digital transformation and the issue of increasing hajj costs as among the main agendas. According to the meeting Order Paper displayed on Parliament portal, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) raised a question about the future of Malaysia's foreign policy to the Foreign Minister during the oral question and answer session. He wants to know how the policy could help Malaysia navigate the increasingly complex and dynamic Indo-Pacific geopolitical landscape. The digitalisation of the country also received attention when Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) asked the Prime Minister to explain the progress of the implementation of the MYDigital initiative, especially regarding the registration of MyDigital ID, the integration of government systems with digital platforms, and its impact on the delivery of public services. The issue of digital transformation continued with a question from V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah) to the Digital Minister who wanted to know the country's preparedness for the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution including technology transfer strategies, local talent development, as well as the level of AI integration in governance and key economic sectors. Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) also asked the Prime Minister regarding the justification for the increase in the 2025 hajj cost, the status of Tabung Haji investments and the amount of unused Malaysian hajj quota for the years 2020 to 2025. After the question and answer session, the sitting will continue with the tabling of the second reading of several bills including the Consumer Credit Act 2025 and the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing (Amendment) Bill 2025. Members of Parliament are also expected to focus on the motion to debate the Annual Report and Financial Statements of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) 2023 (Statute Paper 80 of 2025). Apart from that, two other documents will also be tabled on the MPs' desks, namely the Auditor General's Report 2/2025 and the Suhakam Annual Report 2023.

Malaysia-Thailand boat race to boost border economy
PASIR MAS: The plan to hold a boat race competition between Malaysia and Thailand along Sungai Golok could breathe new life into a shared cultural tradition while boosting the local economy. Kelantan Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Md Nor said the event would create opportunities for small businesses, homestay operators, and tourism service providers in Pasir Mas and nearby border areas. 'We feel that events like this can revive the local economy because travellers will come not just to watch the boat race, but also to sample the traditional food, stay in local hotels or homestays and purchase handicrafts,' he told reporters during a trial race at Sungai Golok. The proposed venue, Pohon Jambu base, is already a popular gathering spot for Malaysian and Thai communities. Kamaruddin noted that its strategic location would directly benefit nearby economic activities. 'This place is beautiful and suitable for such an event because the river is not too wide and already has basic facilities. We also receive good cooperation from the Sungai Golok authorities,' he said. Discussions are underway to expand the event by including more teams from Kelantan and Thailand's Narathiwat province, potentially making it an annual affair. A unique blindfolded boat race is also being considered to attract more visitors. The recent two-day trial race featured 40 teams, including five from Malaysia, drawing around 1,000 spectators. MACC identifies two more companies in data centre graft
KUALA LUMPUR: Two more companies suspected of obtaining data centre construction projects by bribing the project manager of a construction company, have been identified by graft busters. According to a source in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), several company directors have also been identified and will be called to assist in the investigation into the case. 'The investigation also found that the main suspect, the project manager, admitted to having asked for about 3% of the project value from any company that wanted to obtain a project from a prominent construction company,' he said yesterday. The source informed that the bribe was done by leaking the tender price and helping to ensure that the company that paid the bribe was given priority to win the tender. 'This bribe was paid in stages according to the progress of the project payment and it is understood that there are several million more that have yet to be paid by the company to the suspect as per their agreement,' the source said, Bernama reported. The media previously reported that a project manager of a prominent construction company who was detained for investigation into a corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender was willing to burn almost RM1mil in cash to destroy evidence after being shocked by the MACC raid through Ops Ways on Thursday. According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1mil in flames. As a result of a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling about RM7.5mil stored in several pillow boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins. On Friday, the media reported that a contract manager, his wife and two men, aged in the 40s and 60s, were arrested by the MACC Investigation Division around the Klang Valley, believed to be involved in corruption involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender in Johor worth about RM180mil.
