What is the '21 21 21' rule behind Kapil Sharma's weight-loss transformation? Celebrity fitness coach says it ‘works best for beginners'

Time of India3 days ago
Kapil Sharma's recent weight loss transformation has surprised fans and followers alike, prompting questions about how the popular comedian managed to shed the extra kilos so effectively. The answer, according to his fitness coach Yogesh Bhateja, lies in a simple yet structured approach called the '
21-21-21 rule
.'
Yogesh Bhateja, known for training celebrities such as Farah Khan and Sonu Sood, shared insights about Kapil's journey in a candid video interview on the YouTube channel
GunjanShouts
, published on April 6. In it, he detailed how fitness isn't just about breaking a sweat in the gym — it starts with awareness and mental alignment.
The First Step: Rethinking Lifestyle Choices
Bhateja began by pointing out how most people adopt unhealthy eating habits without even realising it — from butter-laden bread and tea for breakfast to casually snacking on street food. The problem, he said, lies in a lack of conscious thought about what we consume and how it affects our daily functioning.

"It's when we start clocking in what we are eating, monitoring water intake, breathing patterns, and other lifestyle details — that's when real change begins," Bhateja explained.
When Kapil initially approached his transformation cautiously, Bhateja made sure not to overwhelm him. Instead of intense workouts, he introduced gentle stretches, focusing on how the body responded rather than pushing physical limits.

The 21-21-21 Rule
At the core of Kapil Sharma's transformation is Bhateja's unique three-stage fitness formula — the 21-21-21 rule. It involves three distinct 21-day phases that slowly build momentum toward a sustainable and holistic change.
Phase 1: 21 Days of Movement
The first three weeks are solely about encouraging movement. Bhateja advised clients to return to the basics — simple physical training exercises reminiscent of school PT sessions. According to him, no dietary changes are required during this stage. 'Just move every day — stretch all your muscles — and you'll already be off to a great start,' he said, even adding that one could enjoy jalebis without guilt during this phase.

Phase 2: 21 Days of Diet Modifications
Once movement becomes a habit, Bhateja encourages small tweaks in eating habits. 'I'm not talking about cutting carbs or calories. Just simple changes,' he clarified. For instance, switching nighttime milk consumption to the morning to avoid digestive issues or being mindful of how much sugar and milk one adds to their tea. He stresses modification over elimination — making lifestyle changes sustainable.
Phase 3: 21 Days of Cutting Emotional Dependencies
The final 21-day segment focuses on emotional patterns tied to consumption. Bhateja advised taking control over habits like smoking, alcohol intake, and caffeine dependency. These changes, he said, not only improve physical health but also reinforce emotional discipline and self-control.

Why the Method Works
Bhateja highlighted that the strength of this routine lies in its simplicity and phased commitment. 'These 62 days will help you build an attitude without pain,' he said. 'When you complete each 21-day phase, you're not depriving yourself — you're simply shifting your lifestyle in manageable portions.'
By the end of the third phase, most individuals — like Kapil Sharma — have already experienced visible change. According to Bhateja, this often leads to a natural desire to push harder and continue without external motivation.
A Blueprint for Beginners
'This is what works best for beginners,' Bhateja concluded. The 21-21-21 rule, he believes, is especially effective for those overwhelmed by the idea of fitness or those who've failed at crash diets and intense gym regimens. By focusing on one goal at a time and embracing progress gradually, it sets the stage for long-term, sustainable change.
So if you've been wondering how Kapil Sharma managed such a noticeable transformation, the answer isn't just in celebrity trainers or high-end gyms. It lies in a simple rule, some patience, and a step-by-step commitment to change.

Image credits: Pinterest If there's one fictional character that has made every man and woman want to become a cooking queen or maybe just get a chance to gorge on some delicious recipes, it's definitely Monica Geller from Friends. The perfectionist who many related to, the one who wanted to fall in love, the mother of the group and definitely the feeder of the group too- Monica was one character that we along with Chandler Bing couldn't help but fall in love with. If you have been on a rewatching spree or want to recreate some of those unique recipes she made in the show, below are five easy recipes from Monica Geller's kitchen that you can follow. Candy from 'The One With All the Candy' Image credits: Pinterest Many describe Monica's famous candies as a perfect combination of caramel and chocolate and an easy recipe to make. Combine 60 g of water, 155 g of light corn syrup and 400 g of granulated sugar in a cooking pan and cook till it reaches 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, shut off the heat and start streaming in the mixture with 230 g of butter mixed with 230 g of cream. Cook the mixture again up to 240-245 degrees Fahrenheit. Let it cool down for at least six hours in a shaped pan covered with parchment paper and then cut the caramel into candy shapes. Now, temper some chocolate and dip the caramel candies in it. Don't forget to top off the candies with little flakes of salt. Mac and Cheese from 'The One with Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.' Image credits: Pinterest You need 1/4 cup of butter, 2 cups of cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of bread crumbs, 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese, 3 oz of elbow macaroni, 3 cups of milk, some paprika and 2 1/2 tbsp flour. In a pan, add the butter, flour and milk and stir. Then add the cheddar and parmesan cheese and cook until it thickens into a sauce. In a baking pan add the macaroni and pour the sauce over it and top it all off with a sprinkling of bread crumbs and paprika. Bake at 35o degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes and enjoy! Break-up Jam from 'The One With The Jam' Image credits: Pinterest Who knew the best way to get over a break-up was to make some delicious jam? Monica! Take 2lbs of strawberries, 4 cups of white sugar, and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. Mash the strawberries and cook them in a pan with white sugar and lemon juice and stir and boil until 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the mixture cool, transfer it into jars and refrigerate. Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies from 'The One with the Cooking Class' Image credits: YouTube/Friends Chop 140g salted butter and heat it in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Once it turns brown and smells nutty, transfer it into a bowl and let it cool for 20-30 minutes. Add 215g of all-purpose flour to a bowl, add 1/2 tbsp of baking soda, mix and set aside. Add 145g brown sugar and 65g caster sugar to the cooled-down brown butter and mix till combined. Add 1 large egg and 1 tbsp milk to the mix. Now add the flour and mix. Add some chopped chocolate to the cookie dough and refrigerate for 1.5 hours. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes. Lasagna from 'The One with the Dozen Lasagnas' Image credits: Pinterest Of course, we saved the best for last. If you had told Monica to make vegetarian lasagnas then she would have made them, but for now, you need to try this not-so-vegetarian recipe. Take 1lb of ground beef, add 4 cups of marinara sauce and mix. In another bowl take 4 cups whole milk ricotta cheese, 2 cups of parmesan cheese, 1 tbsp of parsley, 1/4th cup basil, 1 tsp of kosher salt,1/2 tbsp black pepper, 2 tbsp olive oil, and mix. Take a lasagne baking pan and add some beef sauce into it and layer with cooked lasagne noodles, layer this with the cheese mix and some shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Repeat this until both the bowls are finished and then bake the lasagne at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes. Next, broil it for 1-2 minutes and serve.
