Bargain hunters, rejoice! Discount beauty has arrived at the Bicester Village outlet shopping centre
Millions flock to Bicester Village each year for discounted fashion at designer outlets. Now it has its sights set on beauty. I visited before Christmas and my fear of finding skincare-slightly-on-the-turn and sad-looking eyeshadows in shades of mint and mauve proved unfounded.
Fragrance was well served, with a festive pop-up store by Byredo, selling even its bestselling candles, fragrances and hand care at what seemed a smallish discount. There were also permanent outlets for Creed, Penhaligon's, Roja and Molton Brown, all with up to 60% off the RRP.
Neom had 30-odd per cent reductions on its luxury candles and I couldn't work out why, given that they were still full price elsewhere. (Slightly wonky labels? Overstocking? They looked great to me.)
Benefit's unit was selling its latest gifts collection at various discounts weeks before their prices were matched elsewhere by Black Friday.
The hope of tracking down discontinued items is often the reason for a visit to an outlet village – my companion succeeded in her pilgrimage for some Fendi boots that had got away – and the same can be true for beauty. Bicester's Beauté Prestige International, home to Shiseido's brands such as Nars and Clé de Peau, was in possession of some lipsticks in classic, wearable nudes and reds since replaced by refillable tubes in regular stockists. It gave me hope that I may find my dear departed Sweet Almond Shea Liquid Soap over at L'Occitane, but no dice.
What struck me is that, when it comes to shelf life, beauty has an advantage over fashion at Bicester. Trendy garments have often lost their allure by the time they arrive at an outlet. Beauty aesthetics are slower moving. Bicester stores such as the Cosmetic Company Store (selling brands under the Estée Lauder Companies umbrella, all at minimum 25% off RRP), Clarins and Elemis all contained plenty of great products – many just packaged in seasonal gift sets that may simply have been hogging too much room in a warehouse.
At Bamford I was not surprised to see a large discount on a eucalyptus shower cream that once made my buttocks so cold that I gasped. It was also selling beautiful Christmassy candle trios with a quarter off.
I imagine that, as with all outlet shopping, some days there will be nothing worth buying. But on my visit, there were plenty of beautiful bargains in-store.

Byredo founder Ben Gorham's exit marks a familiar pattern in beauty M&A
Ben Gorham, the founder and creative force behind Swedish fragrance label Byredo, is stepping away from the brand nearly two decades after its inception and three years after selling a majority stake to Spanish conglomerate Puig, reported Cosmetics Business. Founded in 2006, Byredo evolved from a niche fragrance label into a full-fledged lifestyle brand spanning beauty, fashion, and homeware. Known for its minimalist packaging and distinctive scent names, the brand attracted Puig, which acquired a majority stake in 2022 at a reported 1bn euro valuation. Gorham stayed on as Chief Creative Officer under a transitional agreement that ended this June. The move reflects a growing trend: creative founders departing once their brands are absorbed by global players. While Puig has emphasised its commitment to preserving brand DNA, as seen in its stewardship of Charlotte Tilbury and Dries Van Noten, founder exits inevitably shift a brand's creative direction toward commercial scale. Analysts note that Gorham's exit follows a familiar post-acquisition cadence. Conglomerate ownership offers growth infrastructure but can also dilute founder-led vision. As valuations peak, we often see founders stepping aside, signalling the end of the artisanal phase and the beginning of corporate brand building. Puig's Chairman and CEO Marc Puig praised Gorham's role in establishing Byredo's distinctive identity, vowing to uphold the brand's ethos while unlocking further growth. However, as Puig consolidates its portfolio with an eye toward eventual IPO readiness, questions remain about how much of Byredo's avant-garde edge will remain intact.

ghd's Helios Hair Dryer worth £179 is on sale - dries my hair in minutes
The ghd Helios Hair Dryer is one of the best hair styling tools I've ever used, and it is currently on sale Last Christmas, Father Christmas (aka my fiancé) bought me a ghd Helios Hair Dryer, and the salon-grade styling tool has a special place in my heart. Currently, potential buyers can snap up the device on sale, as part of ghd's summer bonanza. The Helios Hair Dryer is on offer for £139, knocked down from £179. It's not very often that shoppers can find sales on the brand's best-sellers, so this one is worth shouting about - at least in my book. Thanks to its powerful airflow, the hair dryer blasts my long hair in minutes without causing heat damage. I have a limited-edition Christmassy green colour, which isn't available anymore, but the sale includes lots of hues such as black, white, plum, blue ink, and icy blue. Ghd describes this hair styling tool as a 'game-changing innovation'. For me, it really has been game-changing in reducing frizz, plus it doesn't dry out my ends even though I have it on the highest heat setting. Other premium options include the iconic Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, which is up for grabs at Currys for £279.99, usually £329.99. It has three speed settings and an anti-flyaway tool. For budget-friendly good performers, look to Boots, where the Mark Hill Style Addict Perfect Blow Dry Kit is on sale for £34.99. It comes packed with a host of accessories, like a blow-dry brush, clips and rollers. Back to my Helios Hair Dryer, it makes hairwash days slightly more enjoyable, and so much quicker. It comes with two settings that control the strength of the airflow. The buttons aren't labelled or numbered, but option one provides a medium gust, and option two delivers full force - being impatient, I usually opt for the latter. There are also two heat options - again, not labelled or numbered - but one is hot and the other is really hot. I can fully dry my hair in approximately 10 minutes but for me, a major downside is that it is a heavy tool, especially for those who like doing a bouncy blowdry. Lifting my arms above my head with this device is like a mini workout and it took me months to get used to the weight of it. Speaking of blow drys, this is where the nozzle attachment comes into its own. The funnel-like attachment helps concentrate the airflow. I section off my hair and use an Olivia Garden blow-dry thermal brush, which helps to define the ends. Ghd asserts that the hairdryer features a 'bespoke acoustic system to ensure low sound levels'. However, I don't think this technology makes much of a difference, as the hairdryer is rather loud. The hairdryer sports a sleek design, with chrome accents at the base of the handle and at the back. It comes with its own pouch, making it handy for storage and travel. Another disadvantage is the lack of a diffuser attachment included. This must be purchased separately - not ideal given the price of the tool. You can buy one here for £29.99.
