R Ashwin asks CSK for clarity on his role in IPL 2026, open to part ways
According to ESPNcricinfo, Ashwin has told the franchise he doesn't mind parting ways with them if he doesn't fit their plans.
Ashwin was picked by CSK at the mega auction 2025 for ₹ 9.75 crore. He played nine fixtures for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, taking seven wickets and conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.13.
This IPL was also his costliest year as he went for 9.12 runs an over, the first time that his economy went past 8.49.
The deadline for releasing players usually depends on when the auction takes place, which hasn't been finalised for IPL 2026 yet. Although there is a mini auction every year, the mega auction happens only once every three years.
Anytime between November and February is when it is typically held. As Ashwin jokingly stated during his interview with Sanju Samson, a player trade can occur no more than a week prior to the auction.
Ashwin is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the IPL with 201 scalps in 239 matches at an average of 30.94. Before rejoining CSK in 2025, he played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.
CSK have other calls to make as well, including captaincy, which MS Dhoni took over mid-season after Ruturaj Gaikwad injured himself.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson had informed the franchise that he wants to be released ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. Samson conveyed his decision to the RR management soon after the conclusion of IPL 2025.
While the Royals held their season review meetings in June, they haven't yet responded to Samson's request.
Samson was among six players retained by the Royals before the previous mega auction, with a price tag of ₹ 18 crore. The others were Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Sandeep Sharma and Shimron Hetmyer. (ANI)

Responsibility is not just in terms of runs to be scored or wickets to be picked, it's about the role in the team and how you can create a bigger impact. So I did have that in mind. Also, with regard to my preparation, nothing changes. Be it ₹20 lakh or ₹20 crore, preparation won't change. You have to do double the hard work as the previous year, regardless of the money. That day was very hectic but, post that, things were kind of back to normal.' Many fans questioned the ₹23.75 crore figure, piling on unnecessary pressure. His response is simple: 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list. So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me... there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to. People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them.' Support From KKR Management According to Iyer, KKR shielded him from much of the noise: 'They know the magnitude of it, obviously from experience... They have made a team, they wanted the team to do well, and I am part of a team. And it is my duty to do well for them. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But my aim is always to try and win as many games as possible for KKR.' He also sees the price tag as recognition of his journey: 'I would like to think so. But it's not about just the money, it's about where I fit in their scheme of things. Venky sir once told me something, which I felt made a lot of sense. He said, 'At the end of the day, you are given 120 units to build a team. Once the team is built, it doesn't matter how many units you have spent on what. It is a team that has been made now, that's it.'

United Spirits Q1 results: Profit dips 14% to ₹417 cr, revenue at ₹6,295 cr
Diageo-controlled liquor maker United Spirits Ltd on Wednesday reported a 14 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to ₹ 417 crore for the June quarter of FY26. The company had posted a net profit of ₹ 485 crore a year ago, according to a regulatory filing from United Spirits Ltd (USL). Its revenue from operations was marginally up at ₹ 6,295 crore during the quarter under review. It was ₹ 6,238 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. USL's total expenses stood at ₹ 5,776 crore, up 2.79 per cent in the June quarter. In the June quarter, "EBITDA was ₹ 644 crore, down 9.7 per cent, largely due to a one-off indirect tax item impact and relatively higher A&P in the standalone business", said USL in its earnings statement. In the June quarter, USL's income from the 'Beverage alcohol' segment rose 8.37 per cent to ₹ 2,549 crore. Its sports business, Royal Challengers Sports Private Ltd (RCSPL), which owns the RCB team for IPL and WPL, registered a 15.73 per cent growth in revenue to ₹ 478 crore in the June quarter. During the quarter, USL's consolidated net sales value (NSV) rose 9.4 per cent to ₹ 3,021 crore. "This was driven by the 8.4 per cent growth in the standalone business and 15.7 per cent reported growth of the sports business housed in the 100 per cent subsidiary RCSPL," it said. The Prestige & Above segment accounted for 88.3 per cent of net sales during the first quarter. The Popular segment accounted for 9.8 per cent of the net sales during the first quarter. The Popular segment net sales grew 13.6 per cent, it said. Its total income of USL, which owns brands like McDowell's, Royal Challenge, Signature, Johnnie Walker, and Black Dog in its fold, was ₹ 6,367 crore, up 1.5 per cent. "We delivered a resilient quarter with the Prestige & Above portfolio sustaining its growth momentum, while cycling a high prior year base. The quarter also marked the completion of the Nao Spirits acquisition. "Looking ahead, we remain focused on our circle of control to lead the next wave of category growth through sharper portfolio, tailored consumer engagement and revenue growth management," its Managing Director and CEO Praveen Someshwar said. Shares of United Spirits Ltd settled at ₹ 1,306.80 apiece on BSE on Wednesday, up 0.71 per cent from the previous close.
