Local body polls in Telangana soon: Minister Ponguleti says notification by month-end
He said the election notification is expected to be issued by the end of June, and a cabinet decision on the schedule will be taken on June 16.
The MPTC and ZPTC elections will be held first, followed by Sarpanch and Municipal elections.
Speaking to party leaders at the Kusumanchi MLA camp office in Khammam district, the Minister stressed the need for unity among local leaders and urged them to resolve public issues on priority. He added that candidates will be selected based on reservation and their winning chances.
As a part of development programmes in the Paleru constituency, the Minister participated in the Eruvaka (starting of cultivation) celebrations and extended greetings to farmers.
He highlighted that under the Indiramma government scheme , all eligible farmers will receive Rythu Bharosha (investment support) of Rs 12,000 per acre starting June 16, up from the previous Rs 10,000. He also stated that Rs 21,000 crore in farm loans have been waived, surpassing the previous government's Rs 17,000 crore waiver.
Ponguleti assured that Rythu Bharosa will be provided for the third time from tomorrow and emphasised the government's commitment to delivering free electricity, quality seeds, and fertilizers to farmers.
He criticised the previous government for abandoning irrigation projects like Sitarama and Kaleshwaram and vowed that the current administration will complete them to ensure water for every acre.

Chennai: AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has launched a huge attack on the DMK government in Tamil Nadu led by MK Stalin over the state government's alleged ill-treatment of sanitation workers. At least 900 sanitation workers who had been on a strike for the last 13 days were detained in Chennai. They have objected to the state government outsourcing conservancy services in two city zones. PM Modi asked to give representation on Bengaluru Tunnel Road Project: Dy CM Shivakumar
BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar informed the Legislative Council on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Bengaluru, directed the state government to submit a formal proposal for the ambitious Tunnel Road Project. The PM's instruction came after he expressed admiration for the Ragigudda Double Decker Project and encouraged its expansion into a 44-km double-decker corridor for the city. Shivakumar was responding to BJP MLC CT Ravi's queries regarding the Tunnel Road Project's feasibility and alleged discrepancies in its Detailed Project Report (DPR). The DCM stated, "The PM said India is seen through Bengaluru and echoed what former PM Vajpayee has told. Hence we asked him to fund the Tunnel Road Project to which he replied saying give a representation and he shall look into it." He added that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) would share the project cost equally. Highlighting Bengaluru's rapid urbanization, Shivakumar noted that the city's population has doubled from 70 lakh to 1.4 crore in 25 years, while vehicle numbers have surged to 1.23 crore. "The city has 25 lakh software engineers compared to 13 lakh in California," he said, emphasizing the need for infrastructure upgrades like the Tunnel Road, Double Decker corridors, and buffer zone roads to ease congestion. The DCM revealed that Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had advised studying Mumbai's tunnel projects before finalizing plans. After a 1.6-year review, the government decided to proceed. Defending the higher cost compared to metro projects, Shivakumar clarified, "The DPR cost for Tunnel Road was more compared to Metro was due to increase in diameter and length and present-day situation." He detailed that the 14-meter-wide tunnel would accommodate three lanes plus an emergency lane, becoming India's longest upon completion at Rs 770 crore per km. The Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model will see the state contributing 40% and private agencies 60%, with Rs 800 crore allocated for land acquisition. CM says 9,000 hectares of forest land to be planted with trees
1 2 Shimla: The state govt this year aims to plant trees on around 9,000 hectares of forest land under different schemes, out of which 60% of the saplings would bear fruits. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared this information while inaugurating the 76th state-level Van-Mahotsav at the Kanlog area in Shimla on Thursday. He also planted a deodar sapling during the event and launched the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna across all assembly constituencies. He virtually interacted with ministers and MLAs participating in the programme, besides discussing forest conservation and afforestation measures. The state govt is working to protect and enrich the rich biodiversity of the state, and these efforts would contribute to achieving the target of increasing forest cover by 30% by 2030, he added. Sukhu stated that the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna would not only promote forest development but also enhance public participation and strengthen the rural economy. Under this scheme, mahila mandals, yuvak mandals, self-help groups, and joint forest committees would plant and look after saplings on one to five hectares of designated forest land for five years. He also handed over cheques of rupees one lakh each to different mahila mandals for tree plantation under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna. Apart from this, cheques of Rs 50,000 each have also been distributed under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project to the beneficiaries for livelihood.
