What Isaiah Horton thinks of Alabama football QB Ty Simpson: 'I believe in him'
Isaiah Horton knows what a good quarterback looks like.
In an interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, the Alabama football wide receiver talked about his quarterback at Miami, Cam Ward, and his confidence, his preparedness, how "everything he did was for a purpose."

When Horton transferred to the Crimson Tide, he said it was for a quarterback too: Ty Simpson.

"That's my guy," Horton said. "He was my 7-on-7 quarterback in high school. So yeah, we had that little chemistry... Kind of one of the reasons why I came here, to get back with him. He's a stud. He's going to be one of them ones. I believe in him. That's my guy."
In an interview with the Tuscaloosa News in February, Simpson said Horton called him immediately when the wide receiver entered the transfer portal.
'(Horton) was like, 'Hey, Alabama hit me up. What do you think?'' Simpson said. 'And I was like, 'Dude, you're crazy if you don't come visit and come here. … This offense is built for guys like you.''

At Alabama, what he calls "the standard of college football," Horton said Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams and the rest of the Crimson Tide wide receiver room has "embraced me with open arms."
"We see what we got," Horton said. "And we know we're going to be nice. We know we're going to be special. And we are. We just got to keep working."
Alabama will hold its annual A Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium at noon April 12.

USA TODAY Sports' says this former Alabama player, NFL wide receiver must step up in 2025 It is likely no secret that the 2024 NFL season was a struggle at times for former Alabama Crimson Tide wideout Jermaine Burton. Selected with the No. 80 overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, Burton did not necessarily have the type of season many expected the former Alabama wide receiver to have. That is because across 14 games, Burton only had a combined four receptions for 107 yards. This was a far cry from what Burton showcased during his two seasons at Alabama as well, a span in which he had 79 receptions combined for 1,475 yards and 15 touchdowns. Burton also led the SEC with an average of 20.5 yards per reception in 2023, and averaged 26.8 yards a catch as a rookie. Looking ahead to year two as well, according to USA TODAY Sports' Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, Burton is one-of-nine second-year NFL players who must step up for their respective teams' in 2025 coming off rough rookie seasons, saying of the former Alabama wideout: "Third-rounders typically don't need to worry about their standing after just one year, even in the most trying circumstances. But while the Bengals didn't cut ties with Burton despite the receiver's disappointing rookie year culminating with him being left at home for the regular-season finale, it's clear massive changes are needed for a course correction." 'Nobody should be happy with it,' Burton said last week when asked about the benching. 'I was very disappointed, but it's something that I moved on from, and grew from, and can't wait, looking forward, really looking forward to this year.' "With Andrei Iosivas having solidified his standing as the No. 3 receiver behind Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins while Mike Gesicki returns at tight end, any substantial offensive contributions are likely out of reach for Burton in the near future. What matters now is not just getting in coaches' good graces but staying there. While a spot as a backup should be secure given the Bengals' inaction in bringing in any outside competition this offseason, Burton is one of the few players who might stand to benefit from establishing a pattern of overall reliability rather than the flash plays he's already shown himself capable of." A team with Super Bowl aspirations, it's clear that the 2025 season is a big one for the Bengals, as well as Burton, who will look to bounce-back from a rough rookie campaign. Auburn baseball catcher Cale Stricklin announces plans to enter transfer portal The sophomore played in 20 games over the last two seasons at Auburn. A reserve catcher is moving on after spending two seasons in an Auburn uniform. Cale Stricklin, a sophomore from Watkinsville, Georgia, is departing Auburn after signing with the program ahead of the 2024 season. He announced Monday on social media that he is entering the transfer portal after playing two seasons in the orange and blue. Stricklin played in 20 games over the last two seasons, including six games during the 2025 season. In that span, he built a career average of .243 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI. He played in two games against Holy Cross in February, three games in March, and made his last appearance April 5 against Alabama. Last season, he recorded four at-bats with zero hits and a walk. Playing time became tough for Stricklin to grab at Auburn. Freshman Chase Fralick won the starting catcher role and became a key piece to the Auburn lineup by hitting .335 with four home runs and 41 RBI. Fralick's occupying of the catcher role pushed Ike Irish out of his primary position of catcher and into the outfield. Fralick is set to return, and Auburn has signed a catcher to its 2025 class, Taylor Belza of Grafton, Ohio. Lucas Steele, who played outfield and served as a designated hitter for the Tigers in 2025, is also a catcher and could be used should an emergency arise. To fill needs left behind by several players at key positions, Auburn has added five players from the transfer portal since the final out of the 2025 season, including Texas State infielder Ryne Farber and Western Kentucky pitcher Drew Whalen. CBS Sports ranks this Alabama star as one of the most dynamic players of the last 25 years Former Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith was a college football sensation from his freshman season in 2017 through his final game in a Crimson Tide uniform in January 2021. The "Slim Reaper" became a star and the latest in a long line of Alabama football legends when he hauled in a game-winning 41-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa in overtime to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in a 26-23 national championship game thriller on Jan. 8, 2018 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. "2nd and 26" has been a household name ever since. Three years later, Smith finished his college career with almost 4,000 yards receiving (3,965), a Heisman Trophy, and a second national championship ring. He made sure his final game in an Alabama uniform was one to remember. Smith caught 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns as the Crimson Tide overmatched the Ohio State Buckeyes, 52-24, in Miami to cap a perfect 13-0 season. It's no wonder then that Smith is widely recognized as one of college football's most electric players from the first quarter of the 21st century, something CBS Sports recognized Monday in its unveiling of the 25 most dynamic players since 2000. Smith was ranked No. 9 overall on the list and was the No. 2 ranked receiver behind 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter of Colorado. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford highlighted Smith's banner performance against Ohio State in his analysis of the electric receiver's dominance while at Alabama: "Outside of Joe Burrow's seven-touchdown first half against Oklahoma in the 2019 College Football Playoff, Smith's 12-catch, three-touchdown and 215-yard explosion against Ohio State in the national title game to end the 2020 season might have been two of the best quarters of the decade for an offensive playmaker. Before Hunter there was Smith, who was the first Heisman winner at receiver since Desmond Howard in 1991." Smith was also the third of Alabama's four Heisman Trophy winners, joining running backs Mark Ingram (2009) and Derrick Henry (2015). Bryce Young became the Tide's fourth Heisman winner in 2021.
