What Isaiah Horton thinks of Alabama football QB Ty Simpson: 'I believe in him'
Isaiah Horton knows what a good quarterback looks like.
In an interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, the Alabama football wide receiver talked about his quarterback at Miami, Cam Ward, and his confidence, his preparedness, how "everything he did was for a purpose."

When Horton transferred to the Crimson Tide, he said it was for a quarterback too: Ty Simpson.

"That's my guy," Horton said. "He was my 7-on-7 quarterback in high school. So yeah, we had that little chemistry... Kind of one of the reasons why I came here, to get back with him. He's a stud. He's going to be one of them ones. I believe in him. That's my guy."
In an interview with the Tuscaloosa News in February, Simpson said Horton called him immediately when the wide receiver entered the transfer portal.
'(Horton) was like, 'Hey, Alabama hit me up. What do you think?'' Simpson said. 'And I was like, 'Dude, you're crazy if you don't come visit and come here. … This offense is built for guys like you.''

At Alabama, what he calls "the standard of college football," Horton said Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams and the rest of the Crimson Tide wide receiver room has "embraced me with open arms."
"We see what we got," Horton said. "And we know we're going to be nice. We know we're going to be special. And we are. We just got to keep working."
Alabama will hold its annual A Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium at noon April 12.

Key Alabama football starter injured. Kalen DeBoer provides latest update on lead tailback
With less than two weeks until the season opener at Florida State on Aug. 30, Alabama football will be without a key starter for an indefinite amount of time. Early Sunday, coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed a report from Will Miller of Sports Illustrated that starting tailback Jam Miller had sustained an upper-body injury during the second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. "Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening," DeBoer said in a press release. "Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined." Sports Illustrated's Miller reported late Saturday that the Crimson Tide running back was expected to miss multiple games, including the season opener at Florida State (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC). Miller is Alabama's most experienced running back and was its leading rusher out of the backfield a season ago. The senior from Tyler, Texas, ran for 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries in 2024. In three years at Alabama, he's rushed for 1,092 yards on 219 carries. Miller had two touchdown runs in Alabama's 34-0 win over Missouri on Oct. 26, and a season-high 140 yards on 15 carries in the Week 2 win over South Florida on Sept. 7. His conference-high in yardage -- 84 yards, 28 carries -- came in Alabama's 28-14 win over Auburn, its fifth straight in the series. Kalen DeBoer updates status of two injured Alabama starting linemen
According to head coach Kalen DeBoer, a pair of starting Alabama Crimson Tide linemen have missed the program's second consecutive scrimmage of fall camp. Those players are offensive guard Jaeden Roberts and defensive tackle James Smith, both of which are dealing with injuries leading up to Alabama's season opener at Florida State on Saturday, Aug. 30, according to DeBoer. DeBoer also recently gave an update on the status of both following the Crimson Tide's scrimmage Saturday, saying of the duo: "Two guys that didn't scrimmage today, Jaeden and James, same as last week," DeBoer said. "James has been working through and building up. Feel good about the progress he's had in the week of practice and with it being live. Needed to hold back there, but he's getting closer by the day." "Jaeden has a concussion, just to tell you what it is, and he's going through the protocol of that and hasn't done anything from a team standpoint. Starting to work back into that protocol, which included being out there today, but not to participate in the scrimmage." A storyline to monitor leading up to Week 1, if Roberts is unavailable for the season opener, then Geno VanDeMark would likely step into the starting role at right guard. If Smith is unavailable, then names such as Jeremiah Beaman and Edric Hill could see increased snaps at defensive tackle. Alabama will open the 2025 season Saturday, Aug. 30 on the road at Florida State.
