Puka Nacua feels like 'a kid in the candy store' learning from Davante Adams
Two seasons ago, Puka Nacua entered the league as a fifth-round pick and taking him under his wing was former Los Angeles Rams great Cooper Kupp.
Fast forward two seasons and multiple records later, with Kupp now in Seattle, Nacua – despite already being one of the league's brightest stars – is thrilled to be embracing the role of student again while playing alongside his new mentor, Davante Adams.
'It's definitely gonna be different,' Nacua said during an appearance on The Insiders this week. 'Davante, as soon as he stepped into the facility, has been fantastic. The ability to learn the game from another all-time great, I feel like I'm stealing. I'm like a kid in the candy store.'
Every young receiver dreams of not only playing opposite elite counterparts but also having one of the league's top arms. Having brilliant football minds to help pave the way for what is set up to become one of the most exciting passing attacks that fans will be treated to this season helps, too.
'I've had Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay, Cooper Kupp, and now Davante Adams. My life is pretty good, I can't complain too much,' he added.
The Rams' receiver room is going through a quiet transformation. Tutu Atwell was re-signed for his speed earlier this offseason, and the front office added Adams, a future Hall of Famer and one of the league's premier route technicians, to guide a rising offense. It's a blend of explosiveness, precision, and mentorship that's already having a big impact on Nacua.
Nacua said 'route running" when asked what's jumped out about Adams.
'His ability to change pace while he's moving on the football field, the ability to win against negative leverage, his suddenness at the line of scrimmage, it's fantastic to see. And to be able to see it in person and be lining up right next to him, it makes sure you have all the gas turned on when you're going out there with No. 17.'
That 'gas' and the hunger to learn are what's kept Nacua rising. Even with 2,476 yards and nine touchdowns under his belt in 28 games, he's still wide-eyed when he walks onto the practice field. Not just because of the talent around him, but because of who's also throwing the ball.
'I can't wait to see the guys,' Nacua said. 'I just want to see Matthew Stafford spin it. That's my favorite part of the day. As soon as that first practice comes out and you see that ball spinning right, I'm like, ah, things will be well in the world.'
With training camp just around the corner, expectations are building again in Los Angeles, and for good reason. The Rams have star power, leadership, and momentum that had them just two wins away from a Super Bowl appearance last season. And with Nacua still playing sponge, soaking up every ounce of wisdom from the veterans around him, this offense might be just getting started.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson says Eagles traded him because they are 'scared of a competitor'
C.J. Gardner-Johnson was too competitive and that's why he was dealt two months after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, the veteran safety said this week. 'Scared of a competitor,' Gardner-Johnson told The Pivot podcast. 'Simple as that. ... You can't program a dawg." The mixed messages Gardner-Johnson received from coaches and executives rubbed him the wrong way. 'You want me to be a leader and outspoken but then you want me to sit back,' he said. 'There's nowhere been a locker room where I had a single issue with a teammate.' After playing in Philadelphia in 2022, Gardner-Johnson returned to the Eagles in March 2024 after signing a three-year, $27 million deal. He was dealt in March to the Houston Texans for offensive lineman Kenyon Green due to financial reasons, according to general manager Howie Roseman. In June, during a livestream on Instagram, Gardner-Johnson read a comment that said, "You won't see another ring without Philly," to which he replied, "That's crazy. They probably won't see one without me. The f*** you talking about. You saw what happened when I left. I'm popping now. F*** you talking about, I'm glad I'm in Texas. They say everything is better in Texas." Gardner-Johnson walked back those comments this week and said he would apologize to any Eagles player if approached about what he said during the team's Super Bowl ring ceremony this week. "It's a disrespect to Jalen Carter, A.J. Brown — I can name all those guys on that team — Lane Johnson," Gardner-Johnson said. "Because Lane is my big vet and Lane would tell me, 'Hey, Chaunce, I got your back, but when you do too much, I don't got your back. And that's one of those moments that's too much.' Because it's taken away from his career. He done it. He done it before me. Apologizing to the guys in Philly, I got nothing against them. And if they win six more rings without me, they deserve it, because that's the type of players they are."

Bill Belichick comes back swinging in response to Robert Kraft comment
Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick clearly had no intention of letting Patriots owner Robert Kraft's "big risk" comment slide. When appearing on the Dudes on Dudes podcast, Kraft claimed that hiring Belichick was his greatest move as an owner. However, he also noted that it was a big risk giving up a first-round draft pick for a coach who "won a little over 40 percent of his games in 1999." Belichick provided a response to ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr., with the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach contesting that he was the one who took the big risk. "As I told Robert multiple times through the years, I took a big risk by taking the New England Patriots head coaching job," Belichick said. "I already had an opportunity to be the Head Coach of the New York Jets, but the ownership situation was unstable." Belichick infamously wrote his resignation letter on a napkin after spending one day as the Jets' head coach. He viewed the Jets' football team as a solid situation, but it wasn't enough to cure his concerns for the ownership issues in New York at the time. The legendary coach claimed he was told beforehand that the job in New England had its own internal issues as well. "I had been warned by multiple previous Patriots' coaches, as well as other members of other NFL organizations and the media, that the New England job was going to come with many internal obstacles," Belichick said. "I made it clear that we would have to change the way the team was managed to regain the previously attained success." Belichick would go on to lead the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles, nine AFC Championship victories and 17 divisional titles. Kraft ultimately made the decision to move on from Belichick as the Patriots' head coach in January 2024, after the team suffered back-to-back losing seasons and a 4-13 record in 2023. It brought an end to a 24-year working relationship responsible for turning the Patriots into a historically great franchise.
