Glasgow children's nurse behind bars after £200,000 drugs and dirty cash raid

"You shamed yourself and your profession. It is a tragedy for you and for those affected by your drug dealing." A children's nurse is behind bars after a £200,000 drugs and dirty money raid. ‌ Kiran Farooq had been held by police in Glasgow's Finnieston on December 30 2023. Police went on to seize hauls of cocaine, ecstasy and cash from a nearby upmarket flat that she had the keys for. ‌ Farooq today appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow where she pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of both class A drugs. ‌ A judge stated she had "shamed" herself and her medical profession by what she had done. She was warned she faces a lengthy jail-term when she is sentenced next month. Farooq had been spotted by officers briefly going into a car, leaving then entering her own vehicle. Prosecutor Mark Mohammed KC told the court: "Police suspected they had observed a drugs transaction." ‌ She was followed to a secure car park at the flats in the city's Lancefield Quay. Farooq was stopped and got out her motor. She then dropped the keys for a property there. Officers initially seized almost £12,000 inside a small carrier bag in the car. Police, at first, looked through the letterbox of the flat and spotted an open bag which appeared to contain drugs. ‌ Explaining the search that then occurred, Mr Mohammed said: "Cocaine and MDMA (ecstasy) were recovered along with a quantity of cash and drug dealing paraphernalia." This included a consignment of cocaine that had a purity of up to 77 per cent. Police found thousands of ecstasy pills as well as the drug in crystal form. There was also a haul of a substance used to bulk out narcotics to maximise profits for dealers along with a number of sets of scales and part of a kitchen blender. ‌ A further £26,000 of cash in mixed notes was seized. Farooq, of the city's Yorkhill, had also been accused of being involved in the supply of other drugs including ketamine, cannabis and bromazolam. ‌ Prosecutors accepted her not guilty pleas to those charges. Laura Anne Radcliffe, defending, today told the court Farooq had been a nurse at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The advocate added: "She has now resigned from that position." Lord Mulholland deferred sentencing on Farooq for reports. ‌ He told her: "You have pled guilty to quite extensive drug trafficking. You shamed yourself and your profession. It is a tragedy for you and for those affected by your drug dealing. This will inevitably result in a prison sentence, quite an extensive one." Farooq had been on bail, but was remanded in custody meantime. Lord Mulholland also ordered that the dirty cash seized be forfeited following the case today.

Residents mystified by naked ‘gimp mask' night stalker

Locals in Lytham, on Lancashire's Fylde coast, say the shadowy visitor has left lace curtains twitching with the identity of the mystery streaker wearing a bondage hood the talk of the town. He was first spotted after being captured on a car dashcam on Westby Street, in the heart of the Victorian resort, at just before 1am on Friday July 18. Locals say the clip was then shared on the street's WhatsApp group and more footage from the night was revealed, which was posted on Facebook and has now gone viral. The clips show a young man, calmly striding down the street, naked but for his trainers and black mask. 'It's a gimp mask, I've watched the footage,' said one resident, who did not want to be named. 'I've no idea what he thinks he's doing,' he added. 'In the days after, we saw a young man, fully clothed, walking around the streets, looking up and around, seemingly checking for cameras. 'We think it's the same man.' The resident, who was stood alongside his wife, said he knew of no 'alternative lifestyle' establishments locally which may provide a clue to the mystery. Locals also said Lytham, unlike its close neighbour Blackpool, does not get stag and hen parties visiting the town. Lancashire Police said the incident took place on Westby Street, Cleveland Road and Bannister Street. A spokesman said: 'We are aware of a concerning video circulating on social media of a naked male wearing a face covering walking around Lytham in the early hours of the morning. 'This incident was not initially reported to police and has only been brought to our attention after it has been viewed on Facebook. 'Fylde Rural Task Force are currently conducting CCTV and house‑to‑house inquiries and would like to reassure you that we are taking this matter seriously.' Officers urged anyone with information or relevant CCTV to contact FyldeRTF@
