Kerala Man Spent 51 Years In UAE Helping Indians, His Viral Return Will Move You

Thayyil Abdul Gafoor, a 64-year-old Indian expat from Kerala, has returned home after spending over five decades in the United Arab Emirates. Gafoor, who lived in the UAE for 51 years, played a key role in facilitating employment visa processing as part of his profession. Beyond his official responsibilities, he was known for personally helping many individuals from his hometown secure jobs in the Gulf. His efforts earned him deep respect among the Malayali community and the affectionate nickname "real-life Gafoor", a nod to the character from the Malayalam cult classic Nadodikkattu, though unlike the film's fictional conman, this Gafoor is celebrated for his genuine support. A video of his grand welcome ceremony in Kerala has gone viral on social media, with many praising his selfless service to the community over the years. Watch the video here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Siyotechandtravel by shihabu (@siyotechtravel) According to Gulf News, last week, he left Dubai for good after multiple farewell parties by friends and colleagues here. On his arrival at Calicut International Airport, Gafoor was given a surprise welcome. A busload of well-wishers shouting slogans and hailing Gafoor ushered him on to a state-run KSRTC bus rented to transport him to his village, Maruthinchira, in Malappuram district. As they reached their village with an overwhelmed Gafoor aboard the rented bus carrying a banner welcoming him, a public announcement through loudspeaker was made from an escorting vehicle: "Our own Gafoorka (brother Gafoor) has landed."

11 times! Irfan Pathan recalls fiery rivalry with Shahid Afridi: 'I showed him who the real Pathan is'

Irfan Pathan and Shahid Afridi NEW DELHI: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has opened up about his long-standing on-field rivalry with Pakistan's Shahid Afridi , recalling both the personal barbs and the cricketing battles that defined their encounters. Pathan, who had immense success against Pakistan in his career — taking 67 wickets and scoring 807 runs, including a century — dismissed Afridi 11 times across formats, including a golden duck in the 2007 T20 World Cup final. Speaking on Lallantop, the former left-arm pacer revealed how the rivalry turned personal early on. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'Dismissed him 11 times. I have a different kind of fight with him [Afridi] because when I was new and young in the team… there was an interview of Afridi with Harsha Bhogle,' Pathan said. 'Afridi had said, 'I am the real Pathan, he is a fake Pathan'. Badtameez aadmi hai. Mujhe laga ki aap sirf mere baare mein nahi bol rahe ho, mere waalid ke baare mein bhi baat kar rahe, jo aapko nahi karna chahiye tha.' Poll Who do you think had the upper hand in the Pathan-Afridi rivalry? Irfan Pathan Shahid Afridi Both were equally matched Pathan admitted the comment fueled his determination whenever he bowled to Afridi. 'Toh jab jab mere haath mein ball tha, mere jahan mein yeh tha ki isko toh main out kar dunga. Maine out karke usko gyara baar bata chuka hoon ki asli Pathan kaun hai. Bade bade maukon mein out kiya hai — series decider mein, World Cup final mein,' he added. The rivalry also played out off the field. Pathan recalled a heated exchange during India's 2006 tour of Pakistan when both teams were traveling by flight from Karachi to Lahore. 'Afridi came and placed his hand on my head, messing up my hair. He asked me, 'How are you kid?' I said, 'Since when have you become my father?' The childish behaviour was actually his,' Pathan recounted. EXCLUSIVE | Harbhajan Singh on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, India vs Pakistan and more What followed was a verbal spat, with Pathan landing the sharper wordplay. 'I said, 'He (Afridi) has eaten dog meat, he has been barking for a long time.' After that, Afridi couldn't say anything. Whatever he might have said, I would have just said, 'Look, he is barking again.' From that moment, he understood he could not win against me verbally,' Pathan explained. For Pathan, Afridi's remarks may have crossed a line, but the Indian all-rounder believes his performances on the field offered the most fitting reply. 'I showed him who the real Pathan is — not once, but 11 times.' Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

My quest has never been for fame but for fullness of expression: Dr Bhatti

'My writing prowess is forged through an unceasing refinement of sensibility, innate receptivity to truth, beauty, and life itself. I trained myself to remain in a creatively active mode, where originality, diversity, and abundance become a way of being. My quest has never been for fame but for fullness of expression,' Dr SS Bhatti offered a personal and philosophical reflection on the art of writing at the release of his five books at Punjab Kala Bhawan on Saturday. The former Principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture says the Recovery of India is a thought-provoking socio-political treatise envisioning the revival of Indian nationhood, while Pen-Prints on the Sands of Time is a poetic diary of spiritual insight and personal reflection. My Art is a unique compilation of drawings, paintings, and graphics created across decades, and Covid-19 Creativity: Stray Musings is a literary meditation on the resilience of the human spirit, written during the height of global uncertainty, the Covid-19 pandemic. From history to poetry, 'Meri Chup Hi Kavita Kehndi,' is an anthology of Punjabi poetry. Dr Bhatti added with a note of humility and humour that he may well be 'The architect with the largest number of authored publications in the world,' a claim no one disputed in the auditorium.
