Cowboys Have 'Absolutely No' Confidence That Micah Parsons Plays In Week 1 at Eagles, Says Jerry Jones
One thing about Jerry Jones' speaking style: Dallas Cowboys critics don't have to twist his words ... because he does such a complete job of pretzel'ing them all by himself.
The latest example is an ominous and outrageous one.
The Cowboys owner was asked on Tuesday in Oxnard if, in the midst of his contract dispute with star Micah Parsons, he is "confident'' that Parsons will be on the field in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Again no, absolutely none,'' Jones said bluntly.
Wait. What?
Jerry added, softening the blow a bit, "A big part of that is his decision. How would I know that? I'm just saying. No, but I'm urgent."
Jones' "I'm urgent'' claim is bogus, of course, for in the next breath, he conceded that he still hasn't spoken to Parsons' agent David Mulugheta ... not even after Parsons' Friday announcement demanding a trade.
Jones' announcement - which comes on the heels of Jerry claiming he's had an offer on the table that featured "almost $200 million guaranteed'' - also conflicts with the more logical prediction being issued by the head coach.
"We're still planning on moving Micah around and putting him in all the spots that we see him and using our fronts the way we want to see it," coach Brian Schottenheimer said on the subject of how Micah will be a game-plan centerpiece in 2025. "We just go about our business every day. We live in the moment. We focus in the moment.
"Not going to get a lot into it, but I expect Micah to be here.'
"Be here'' meaning "be there'' in Week 1 against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4.
Parsons is still with his team in Oxnard as a "hold-in.'' That's a start.
Will he be with his team in Philadelphia as a full-on force?
That is Schotty's expectation. ... even as Jerry claims it isn't necessarily his.

SEATTLE (AP) — Sam Darnold looked the part of a franchise quarterback in his first appearance at Lumen Field as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Kansas City Chiefs 33-16 in a preseason game on Friday night. Darnold, who did not appear in the Seattle Seahawks' preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, completed 4 of 4 passes for 34 yards on the opening drive. Darnold, who signed to a three-year, $100.5 million contract with Seattle in the offseason, made good use of both his legs and his tight ends during his sole series. He had no issues rolling out to either his left or right, locating tight ends AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo for short passes, as well as fullback Robbie Ouzts and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for deeper completions. Backup quarterback Drew Lock impressed in relief of Darnold, throwing a couple of touchdown passes to wide receiver Jake Bobo, and completing 10 of 12 passes for 129 yards. ATLANTA (AP) — Kendell Brooks scored on a 53-yard interception return and rookie quarterback Cameron Ward had mixed results as the Tennessee Titans beat the Atlanta Falcons 23-20 in a preseason game Friday night. Joey Slye's 23-yard field goal with 9:03 remaining gave Tennessee (1-1) the lead. Falcons backup quarterback Emory Jones was stopped on a fourth-down run near the Tennessee 20 with 2:57 remaining. Jones was shaken up on the hit by linebacker Amari Burney and cornerback Jemari Harris. Jones walked off the field with assistance. Ward played three series and completed 2 of 7 passes for 42 yards.
