Dallas Cowboys Fans Worrying About Trevon Diggs Decision Danger

Dallas Cowboys Fans Worrying About Trevon Diggs Decision Danger originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - "Ninety percent of success,'' someone once said, "is showing up.'' We're about to see if allegedly wayward Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is prepared to heed that advice. Advertisement The five-year star-quality pro has continued his rehab of a surgically repaired left knee ... but he has done so in Miami. When head coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed us this week, he made it clear that all parties appear to be on the same page here. He noted that he has spoken with Diggs, who has checked in with team doctors. "Our understanding is he's getting the work done and he'll be back in, and we'll get a good look at him next week'' at minicamp,'' Schottenheimer said, applying a most positive spin. But ... Make no mistake, the wish from the Cowboys side is for Diggs to perform his rehab with the team. Advertisement This situation has a similar feel to last offseason when the Cowboys harbored some frustrations with Diggs' approach to his ACL rehab. What's different now? According to a stipulation in Diggs' contract, he is in danger of losing $500,000 by virtue of his continued absence from the Cowboys' offseason program. To avoid the fine, he must participate in 84.375% of the club's activities, according to ESPN. Diggs has missed the first two phases in the offseason program and has yet to take part in OTAs. Those are in fact voluntary, but the team's mandatory minicamp is set to begin on June 10 and run through June 12. Advertisement Absence from those dates would also draw a separate fine. So Diggs is in some decision danger here. And yes, Cowboys fans have a right to be worried. Is he trying to be just a bit rebellious because Jerry Jones questioned his commitment last time around? Was Jerry right then? Have things changed for the better now? The Cowboys certainly want him back around the team headquarters despite the near certainty that Diggs will start the season on the PUP list. "We won't have a feel for when he's going to be able to get in the middle of everything until we get to training camp when we're with him day in and day out and see how he's progressing," Stephen Jones said. Advertisement Forget about cutting him and forget about trading him. The Cowboys just want to see him. Diggs' limited availability over the last two seasons has been a thorn in the Cowboys' side especially after the $20 million APY extension they signed him to before the 2023 campaign. However these coming weeks unfold, the Cowboys' ultimate goal is to get Diggs back on the field and ready to compete at a high level again. Cowboys' Dak $60 Million Salary In Danger of Lamar Leapfrog with Ravens

Cowboys' Dak $60 Million Salary In Danger of Lamar Leapfrog with Ravens originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - There is an understandable misconception when it comes to how QBs are paid in the NFL. Advertisement The very best guy gets the absolute biggest contract? Nope. The Baltimore Ravens employ superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson. As a two-time MVP, he is inarguably more accomplished than the current highest-paid player in the NFL, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who signed a four-year, $240 million deal back in September of this past year. Good for Dak. And eventually, good for Lamar, too. CBS Sports' Joel Corry thinks Jackson could eclipse that annual $60 million mark by a wide margin, and is offering some advice. "Jackson should also make it clear to the Ravens that by waiting until next year to do a deal, the growth in the salary cap from 2025 to 2026 will need to be taken into account," Corry wrote. "For example, if the 2026 salary cap is set at $302.5 million, then the deal would have to be at $70 million per year because that would reflect the 34.56% salary cap inflation from 2023." Advertisement Our two reflections … One, we are endlessly amused at media members offering unsolicited advice to people in the arena. (Mike Florio at is hilariously guilty of this.) Two, Corry was once an agent, so he's got skins on the wall. And we bet his number ($70 million APY!), steep as it is … Is virtually inevitable. Jackson finished this past season with 4,172 passing yards and 41 touchdowns on just four interceptions. He was obviously also able to get it done with his legs with 915 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. The 28-year-old field general is just two seasons removed from winning the NFL Most Valuable Player Award, so there will not be much debate that he deserves to be paid more than Prescott when the time comes. Advertisement That's not an insult to Dak. It's not even a statement about the Dak. It's simply the way the market works. Cowboys BREAKING With Micah Parsons Surprise Arrival at OTAs

Cowboys BREAKING With Micah Parsons Surprise Arrival at OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - We were given no indication from the Dallas Cowboys pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons would be showing up to work on Thursday. Advertisement So we will work on the assumption that they are as mildly surprised - and wildly pleased - to see him striding into The Star, his recent travel plans behind him. While a new deal has been discussed and per reporting maybe valued at more than $40 million APY and thought to last around five years, so far, there have been no substantial developments between Micah and the Cowboys regarding the finalization of an extension. Yes, ideas have been pitched back and forth, but the longer it goes without getting done, the more fans shift nervously and angrily in their seats. Training camp looms as a "real" deadline in negotiations for Micah and Dallas, with Parsons stating that it is crucial for him to have a deal in place by the time he arrives in Oxnard. Advertisement Given the magnitude of the deal and the player, it is no surprise that Micah's contract getting done is the biggest training camp storyline for Dallas as the late-July move to Oxnard awaits. As of Tuesday morning here inside The Star? No, Parsons was not present ... and coach Brian Schottenheimer was unconcerned. "We talked a couple of days ago,'' the coach said, adding that he "assumes'' Parsons will be in the building for upcoming mandatory work. Ah, but wait ... At about 2:10 p.m. ... shortly after the end of practice ... here came Micah down the hallway, as noted by colleague Saad Yousuf ... Parsons, who just turned 26 years old, is arguably the the best pass rusher in football. The idea of him earning a $200 million contract - maybe the biggest non-QB deal ever - is almost inevitable. Advertisement Is a camp absence inevitable, too? With the contracts of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb dragging through training camp last offseason, Parsons won't want to suffer a similar fate. So far, Parsons has been in and out of OTAs, and being voluntary, there's nothing wrong with that, although in an ideal world, he would attend. Mandatory mini camp is just around the corner - another "deadline'' on June 10 - and Micah is expected to attend, but in what capacity is unknown. Dallas has had a solid offseason in Brian Schottenheimer's first go-around as head coach. The missing piece? A Parsons contract extension to let out all of the unnecessary tension. Advertisement "Deadlines make deals," owner Jerry Jones once famously said to us way back when, and we are quickly approaching the biggest deadline in Parsons' contract talks. ... with Micah showing up on Tuesday nothing but a positive sign. Cowboys' Pickens Creates 'Goodfellas' Nickname For Lamb Pairing

FRISCO - Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys, where the idea of infighting over who gets to be in charge is dead ... And where sharing and partnership and friendship is a blossoming concept. For the last two seasons around here, CeeDee Lamb has been the team's No. 1 receiver and has been asked to carry a gigantic load. Advertisement A top priority for Dallas this offseason was to find Lamb "an explosive No. 2 receiver'' buddy. And they've done it ... except that Lamb and newcomer George Pickens refuse to see it quite that way ... Because they are talking of each of them being No. 1's. COO Stephen Jones recently raised eyebrows when he said the Cowboys pulled the bold trade for George Pickens because they considered him as a "No. 1 receiver." But now that Lamb has finally spoken out about the deal, Jones appears to have been on the money. Lamb and Pickens were in Scottsdale, Arizona over the weekend to play in Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's celebrity softball game, and were in agreement on their roles for 2025. Advertisement "We both ones," Lamb said. Echoed Pickens, "Yeah." And now Pickens has a nickname for the pairing ... Pickens has shared a screenshot of the two on his Instagram story with the caption, 'Goodfellas 🤞🏽🥷🏾🥷🏾.' We will work on the assumption that Pickens has some knowledge of the Martin Scorsese classic gangster film "Goodfellas'' (and if so, good taste!) Lamb is a four-time Pro Bowl selection who two years ago produced the best receiving season in Cowboys' history with 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pickens has only 12 touchdowns in his three seasons, but in 2023 led the league in yards per reception at more than 18 yards. Advertisement Still ... "It ain't no A/B, none of that," Lamb said. "You look over there, you see 1. You look over here, you see another 1. So do what you got to do with that." Quarterback Dak Prescott will still likely look to Lamb in crunch time. Or he'll look at both. And if the buddy vibes continue and result in production? "Goodfellas'' will stick. Cowboys Chasing Eagles In 2-Receivers Arms Race

FRISCO- In the mind's eye of George Pickens, this is historcally normal. 'I feel like two receivers are kind of normal,'' the newest Dallas Cowboys star said on Wednesday in his first visit with the DFW media. "When I used to watch football (as a kid), there was always a good receiver, and then there was also another good receiver on the side of him.' Advertisement Pickens is talking about the idea of one team employing two studs, and no matter how it was when he was growing up ... There is something about it in today's NFL. On the heels of the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl LIX triumph, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have been named the NFL's best wide receiver. But now, a sudden change ... as Dallas is (finally?) giving chase in an arms race as the position. Brown and Smith are 'the total package physically,'' and the proof is in their performance. But here come the Cowboys, with Dak Prescott as the QB triggerman and with Lamb as his main main. In 2023, Lamb was an All-Pro as he set career highs in catches (an NFL-best 135), yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12). Advertisement He's 26. Pickens, 24, led the Steelers in receiving yards each of the past two years, led the league by averaging 18.1 yards per catch in 2023, and is physically capable of matching Lamb. Which means Lamb and Pickens are capable of matching the Eagles. In one ranking, the groupings ended up including Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Minnesota's Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and Dallas' new duo. Brown and Smith have proven chemistry and a track record. In Philadelphia's quest for back-to-back Super Bowl titles, it's not just talk. Advertisement And in Dallas? 'It excites me a lot because ... we can work off each other,' Pickens said, scoffing at the 'made-up'' idea of "a 1A and a 1B'' ... 'There's no, 'He gets the ball, I get the ball.' We're working off each other. That's why I always come back to building a winning culture. And that's kind of what we've been talking about in Dallas.'
