FRISCO - Star edge rusher Micah Parsons and coach Brian Schotteheimer hooked up on the phone over the weekend.

That was fun.
On Tuesday, Micah is in attendance here at The Star for the start of mandatory minicamp, with a now-revealed plan to participate in the workouts.
"He will be on the field doing some stuff,'' Schotty told us before the practice session.
This follows up a viral social media trend where people call their friends out of the blue to say "goodnight". ... with Micah having called Tyler Smith, Trevon Diggs, Osa Odighizuwa and KaVontae Turpin ... and then seeing things turning a bit serious when Parsons called first-year coach Schottenheimer.
"Look, I know this is weird for everybody man, but look you're handling everything the right way, bro," Schotty said after Parsons explained how he reached out to check on his coach.

Schottenheimer, of course, was referencing Parsons' ongoing contract negotiations.
"This thing's going to get worked out, and again I'm thrilled to see where we take this thing, man,'' the coach said. "We're building something special and you're going to be a huge part of it, bro."
This "promise" from Schotty is reassuring news that Parsons will soon be signed to a long-term deal to stay in Dallas. Regardless of how much the contract is worth - what CowboysCountry.com reports could touch $40 million a year - fans will be glad that things are finally settled.
And Micah's response that night to the coach?

"See you Monday," Parsons said during the call, a hint to his attendance at the upcoming mandatory minicamp festivities this week.
After a team dinner Monday, the Cowboys have three days of work. Then they have six weeks off before flying to Oxnard for training camp.
To this point, Parsons has vowed to not use a holdout as leverage in his negotiations. Tuesday is the first official day for progress on this "promise" issued by Schottenheimer.
Micah has stated how important it is to him to be with the team and with this coach.
And so here he is.

DaRon Bland wants Cowboys extension as Micah Parsons drama lingers

The words Cowboys and contract negotiations have become a rough combo this summer, with the franchise deadlocked in a stalemate with Micah Parsons. But another player signaled some hopefulness of getting his own contract extension dealt with before the start of the season. Cornerback DaRon Bland told reporters after Tuesday's practice that his representatives and the Cowboys have had 'some talks' about an extension and 'hopefully' can get a new deal done before the Sept. 4 season opener, according to Cowboys team reporter Tommy Yarrish. 'I do, but I'm not here to talk about it really too much,' he responded to a question about wanting to get a deal done before the new season. 'But yeah, hopefully.' Advertisement Bland is set to make $5.3 million in 2025 before potentially becoming a free agent without a new deal. There were high hopes for the corner last season after a strong 2023, but he missed the first 10 games of 2024 because of injury (foot fracture) and ended the year with 41 tackles and five passes defended. Bland had earned All-Pro honors in 2023, recording 69 tackles and 15 passes defended while grabbing nine interceptions. The Parsons issue has cast a pall over training camp and even led to A-list actor — and noted Cowboys fan — Denzel Washington to take a jab at team owner Jerry Jones while appearing on ESPN's 'First Take.' 'I've been a Cowboys fan since the '60s. He's making it hard for me,' Washington said about Jones on Tuesday. 'Not to be a fan, because I'm still a Cowboys fan. 'I'm still going to have the star on the side of the hat, but he ain't thinking about us. He's thinking about his pocket.'

Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces George Springer News Before Dodgers Game

Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces George Springer News Before Dodgers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays are entering a crucial stretch of the season, and after a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies, have extended their division lead in the AL East to four games. Toronto has continued to produce without its veteran leader and designated hitter, George Springer, who has not appeared in a game since last Monday, when he suffered a concussion against the Baltimore Orioles. The 35-year-old right-handed slugger had been experiencing a bounce-back year after a disappointing 2024 campaign and has been a focal point in the Blue Jays' offense this season. Springer owns a .291 batting average, .889 OPS, 18 home runs, and 57 RBIs over 101 games, seemingly returning to his prime offensive numbers from 2019–2021. George Springer Nearing Return to Action On Wednesday, Springer was set to play his first rehab game with the Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons but did not participate. Ahead of a pivotal weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager John Schneider announced that Springer is hitting, running, and taking fly balls with the Bisons and continues to feel better. He also noted that Springer is awaiting clearance from MLB before appearing in a game. Springer's Return Will Make Hot Blue Jays Lineup Even Scarier This comes at a great time for the Blue Jays, as Springer has finally resumed baseball activities. The offense had a historic performance at Coors Field against the Rockies, where the Blue Jays set franchise records for runs scored (45) and hits (63) in a three-game series. The 63 hits also marked a modern-era MLB record for a three-game set, so the lineup will become even more formidable when Springer returns as they push for the postseason. Springer arrived in Toronto in 2021 after seven successful seasons with the Houston Astros, highlighted by a World Series championship—experience the Blue Jays hoped would benefit young stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. In his career, Springer has collected four All-Star appearances and two Silver Slugger awards, and over five seasons with the Blue Jays, he has a .257 batting average, .783 OPS, 105 home runs, and 311 RBIs. Blue Jays Announce Exciting Shane Bieber News One Day After Guardians Trade

Blue Jays Announce Exciting Shane Bieber News One Day After Guardians Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays enter their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals with a 3.5-game lead in the American League East over the second-place New York Yankees. Toronto made a handful of trades before Thursday's deadline, headlined by the acquisition of two-time All-Star Shane Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for prospect Khal Stephen. Bieber's last major-league start came on April 2, 2024, before he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and began a lengthy recovery process. The 30-year-old right-hander had served as Cleveland's ace since debuting in 2018. His best season came in 2020 when he won the AL Cy Young Award, posting a 1.63 ERA and striking out 122 batters—both led all of MLB. Before Friday's matchup with Kansas City, Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided an update on Bieber's status and his timeline to make his 2025 debut. Schneider announced that Bieber would throw a bullpen session in Toronto today and is expected to make his next rehab start Sunday with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. "Shane Bieber will throw a bullpen in Toronto today and will likely make his next start Sunday with Triple-A Buffalo, John Schneider says. #BlueJays" Barring any setbacks, Bieber is on track to make his Blue Jays debut sometime in August and will join a rotation that already features former All-Stars Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt and Jose Berrios. Toronto hopes Bieber can return to his Cy Young form and provide a major boost down the stretch as the team pushes for a postseason berth. Over 134 career starts, Bieber owns a 62–32 record, 958 strikeouts and a 3.22 ERA, bringing both experience and upside to a contending Blue Jays roster.
