Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces George Springer News Before Dodgers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Toronto Blue Jays are entering a crucial stretch of the season, and after a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies, have extended their division lead in the AL East to four games.
Toronto has continued to produce without its veteran leader and designated hitter, George Springer, who has not appeared in a game since last Monday, when he suffered a concussion against the Baltimore Orioles.
The 35-year-old right-handed slugger had been experiencing a bounce-back year after a disappointing 2024 campaign and has been a focal point in the Blue Jays' offense this season. Springer owns a .291 batting average, .889 OPS, 18 home runs, and 57 RBIs over 101 games, seemingly returning to his prime offensive numbers from 2019–2021.
George Springer Nearing Return to Action
On Wednesday, Springer was set to play his first rehab game with the Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons but did not participate.
Ahead of a pivotal weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager John Schneider announced that Springer is hitting, running, and taking fly balls with the Bisons and continues to feel better.
He also noted that Springer is awaiting clearance from MLB before appearing in a game.
Springer's Return Will Make Hot Blue Jays Lineup Even Scarier
This comes at a great time for the Blue Jays, as Springer has finally resumed baseball activities. The offense had a historic performance at Coors Field against the Rockies, where the Blue Jays set franchise records for runs scored (45) and hits (63) in a three-game series. The 63 hits also marked a modern-era MLB record for a three-game set, so the lineup will become even more formidable when Springer returns as they push for the postseason.
Springer arrived in Toronto in 2021 after seven successful seasons with the Houston Astros, highlighted by a World Series championship—experience the Blue Jays hoped would benefit young stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.
In his career, Springer has collected four All-Star appearances and two Silver Slugger awards, and over five seasons with the Blue Jays, he has a .257 batting average, .783 OPS, 105 home runs, and 311 RBIs.

Pittsburgh native Neal Shipley earns PGA Tour card

The pride of Mount Lebanon's and Central Catholic's golf team is now an official PGA member. Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley just became the third Korn Ferry Tour player to get the card this year. The announcement came Wednesday after Shipley's impressive performance on the Korn Ferry Tour. He won two matches and had a streak of five consecutive top 10 finishes. Shipley tried to make the cut as an amateur for the 125th U.S. Open in Oakmont in June. He had said it was a dream for him to play at his hometown course. Unfortunately, he did not qualify, but he was at Oakmont for the tournament, cheering players on and talking to fans. Shipley played three years of collegiate golf at James Madison before transferring to Ohio State for the 2023-24 season. He stood apart by finishing as the low amateur at both the 2024 Masters and the 2024 U.S. Open, joining Jack Nicklaus as the only Ohio State golfers to achieve the low amateur honor at the Masters. At the 2024 Masters, Shipley was paired with golf legend Tiger Woods. His recent performance includes tying for eighth place at the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha, Neb., just last week. Shipley is among the top Korn Ferry Tour players, with the potential for an immediate promotion to the PGA Tour for the remainder of 2025 if he secures a third win this year. Johnny Keefer and Austin Smotherman, both with two Korn Ferry Tour wins in 2025, are also close to earning immediate promotions. A total of 20 Korn Ferry Tour players will earn PGA Tour cards for 2026, a reduction from 30 in the previous year. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Guardians ranked among MLB's top farm systems, per MLB.com

Guardians ranked among MLB's top farm systems, per originally appeared on The Sporting News The Cleveland Guardians are spectating from the outside of the AL Wild Card as the MLB season comes down to its final two months of the regular season. Although the team has found some momentum, having an 8-3 record in August, the Guardians are still one game behind the New York Yankees for the last AL Wild Card spot. With franchise players like Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan leading the way for the Guardians in 2025, there's a lot of potential in Cleveland's future. With releasing its midseason rankings for MLB farm systems, Cleveland came in at No. 5. The Guardians are well-known for developing pitchers through their farm system. Players like former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber, as well as current pitchers in their rotation, such as Gavin Williams, Logan Allen, and Tanner Bibee, are all players that the team drafted and developed into successful pitchers in the league. However, things look a little bit different this season. The Guardians' top prospects are filled with positional players. Cleveland has five Top 100 prospects that are poised to emerge as potential stars in the big leagues: second baseman Travis Bazzana (No.15), outfielder Chase DeLauter (No. 56), shortstop Angel Genao (No. 57), and first baseman/outfielder C.J. Kayfus (No. 59). Each offers major upside for the organization's future. C.J. Kayfus has already shown how impactful these young, up-and-coming players can be in the league after making his MLB debut on Aug. 2. In 10 appearances this month, the 23-year-old has a .258 batting average, .303 on-base percentage, .452 slugging percentage, and a .755 OPS while hitting one home run and five RBI. As time goes on, expect each of these developing stars to find a spot on this Guardians roster. Whether it's this season or in the future.
