D.C. Defenders top St. Louis Battlehawks in UFL playoffs, 36-18
For the second straight year, the Battlehawks fell short of qualifying for the title game.
The D.C. Defenders upended the Battlehawks on Sunday, 36-18, for the XFL Conference berth in next weekend's UFL Championship.
A crowd of 27,548 showed up for the playoff game.
Quarterback Jordan Ta'amu completed 18 of 26 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Deon Jackson racked up 110 rushing yards on 21 carries, with a pair of touchdowns.
St. Louis never led. Instead, D.C. scored the first two touchdowns and systematically pulled away.
The two teams had split their regular-season series, with the Defenders winning in St. Louis and losing at home. They'll now have a chance to win for the fourth time in St. Louis this year, in the UFL Championship against the Michigan Panthers.
St. Louis had an 8-2 regular-season record, best in the league. The Defenders finished the regular season at 6-4.

Atletico Madrid defender turns down €20m Premier League offer
Atletico Madrid were very much taking a backseat in the transfer market, after another summer of big spending – unless there were any departures from their squad. Certainly one of their defenders is attracting interest from elsewhere. Right-back Nahuel Molina has flattered to deceive for much of his Atletico career, and with Marcos Llorente and Marc Pubill as options at right-back, Los Colchoneros are open to an exit for the right offer. On Thursday it emerged that Juventus had opened talks with Atletico over a deal for Molina. Molina rejects move to Bournemouth Molina is content to stay if an offer does not seduce him though, and Marca say that he did have the chance to move to Bournemouth. Atletico were open to a deal after a formal €20m offer, but Molina was not keen on a move to join Andoni Iraola in England. They say that the idea is for Molina to continue at the Metropolitano for the time being. Image viaAtletico Madrid alternatives if Molina leaves Los Rojiblancos have put in place some plans in case Molina does leave though, and it is mentioned by Marca that they may look to strengthen elsewhere. Despite the arrival of Giacomo Raspadori, Atletico remain keen on signing another attacking player who can beat their man. Options being considered by Atletico Madrid Hence the fact that Atletico enquired about Juventus winger Nicolas Gonzalez. He is one of several options on their shortlist, which includes Takefusa Kubo, Kang-In Lee, Matias Fernandez-Pardo or even Valencia winger Diego Lopez, who has just renewed his deal. It is noted that deals for Kubo and Kang-In are likely out of reach due to the finances involved. Any player that did come in would likely operate off the right, and provide competition for Giuliano Simeone. Last season Molina or Llorente sometimes played further forward, but none of that duo, Pablo Barrios, Rodrigo de Paul or Rodrigo Riquelme, who all spent time there last season, were natural solutions.

Age balance of Bournemouth's squad as youngsters bring in money
We have looked into the age profile of Bournemouth's players for the 2025-26 season and recorded what percentage of minutes each of them played last campaign. For the purpose of this exercise, we have deemed those under 24 as youth, between 24 and 30 as in their peak years and anyone over 30 to be a veteran. The green represents new signings, who naturally did not play, red are those that have since left the club and yellow are all those that remain. Bournemouth had a young, raw squad last season. There were nine players aged under 24, with four playing more than 50% of the campaign's minutes. This summer three of those have been sold for big money - all of them defenders - and Andoni Iraola has brought in two more yongerh players. Iraola appears to like a younger squad and balances it with those arguably in their peak to nurture and grow talent. They are the ones that ultimately bring in the most money when cashing in.

Lions sign four players, place three on injured reserve
The Lions announced a number of roster moves on Sunday afternoon. They have signed offensive lineman Gunner Britton, running back Deon Jackson, tight end Gunnar Oakes, and offensive lineman Keaton Sutherland to their 90-man roster. Offensive lineman Justin Herron, offensive lineman Colby Sorsdal, and tight end Kenny Yeboah all went on injured reserve while running back Jabari Small was waived with an injury designation. Britton, Jackson, Oakes, and Sutherland all played in the UFL this year. Jackson and Sutherland have also seen regular season action in the NFL. Herron and Sorsdal were vying for backup spots, so the two newcomers on the line will step into that competition. Jackson will be behind Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Craig Reynolds, and 2024 fourth-rounder Sione Vaki while Oakes is behind Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright and others at tight end.
