A-ha's lead singer, Morten Harket, has just revealed to fans that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease — a brain disorder that affects movement, caused by the loss of nerve cells that produce dopamine.
In a statement posted on the band's official website on Wednesday, June 4, the Norwegian singer, 65, shared that he has had multiple brain surgeries and is actively managing his symptoms.
The website first reads, 'This isn't the sort of news anyone wants to deliver to the world, but here it is: Morten has Parkinson's disease.'
Following the announcement, Harket reflected on his diagnosis, saying, 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. Over time, I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude toward the gradual changes of the body: 'I use whatever works.''
At first, the singer explained, he kept his diagnosis private, but has since decided to share it openly with his followers.

'Part of me wanted to share this. Like I said, accepting the diagnosis wasn't difficult for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to focus on my work that held me back,' he explained.
'I'm doing my best to prevent my body from declining. It's a challenging balance between taking medication and managing its side effects,' Harket added. "There's a lot to consider when trying to mimic the body's natural way of handling complex movements, social interactions, and everyday life in general.'
After his diagnosis, Harket detailed his treatment journey, revealing that he underwent a neurosurgical procedure called deep brain stimulation (DBS) in June 2024, which significantly relieved many of his physical symptoms.
He also had another successful DBS procedure on the right side of his brain in December 2024.
However, Harket noted that Parkinson's has affected his voice. 'Problems with my voice are one of the many uncertainties regarding my creative future.'
He shared, 'I don't really know if I can sing anymore. I don't feel like singing, and for me, that's a sign. I'm open-minded about what works; I don't expect to have full technical control. The real question is whether I can express myself with my voice. Right now, that seems unlikely. But I don't know if I'll be able to manage it in the future.'
A-ha was formed in 1982 by Harket alongside Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen. The band quickly rose to fame in 1985 with their debut album Hunting High and Low. The beloved album featured hit songs like 'Take On Me' and 'The Sun Always Shines on TV.'

A Nationwide Recall Affecting Thousands of Pounds of Beef Tallow Was Just Issued—Here's What to Know

A Nationwide Recall Affecting Thousands of Pounds of Beef Tallow Was Just Issued—Here's What to Know originally appeared on Parade. Beef tallow becoming the hottest food trend was not on my 2025 bingo card, but here we are. Everywhere you look these days, the byproduct of cooked cow's kidney and loin meat is being touted as a miracle fat worthy of both frying the best French fries you've ever had and slathering on your face as part of a game-changing skincare routine. Restaurants are switching to using it in favor of seed oils, and there are even protein bars chock-full of the stuff, but how did we get here? Can it really hydrate your skin better than Tatcha's The Dewy Skin Cream, and is it really better than using seed oils? 😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔 The jury's still out on both of those claims, but that hasn't stopped influencers and government officials alike from singing its praises as the equivalent of this century's gold rush. Never mind the fact that beef tallow was heavily abandoned during the early 90s due to its high concentration of saturated fat, or the fact that there is no real scientific evidence that suggests that beef tallow has any actual benefits for your skin. Sure, everything is fine in moderation, and you can bet it'll make for some finger-licking good fries, but it probably won't cure your hyperpigmentation, will, however, make you smell like a burger, and if that sounds like a plus, by all means, you do you. Of course, you might second-guess reaching for that giant tub of beef fat when you see that the FDA has issued a nationwide recall on beef tallow and pork lard products due to claims that products distributed across the country were not inspected by the USDA. Sulu Organics, LLC., a distributor in Illinois, issued a recall on 6,166 pounds of its products after several consumer complaints were made to FSIS claiming that the products did not bear the USDA inspection mark. Upon further investigation, FSIS determined that the distributor purchased the products from a regulated facility and repackaged the products into smaller containers that were relabeled without FSIS inspections. Although there have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions, consumers are urged to discard any affected products or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. You can find the complete list of items affected by the recall here. We think we'll just stick to olive oil.A Nationwide Recall Affecting Thousands of Pounds of Beef Tallow Was Just Issued—Here's What to Know first appeared on Parade on Jun 6, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.

'90s Alt-Rocker Felled by Medical Emergency Still Needs Your Help Amid Recovery

'90s Alt-Rocker Felled by Medical Emergency Still Needs Your Help Amid Recovery originally appeared on Parade. , the singer-guitarist known for such 1990s alternative rock hits as 'Girlfriend' and 'Sick of Myself,' suffered a debilitating stroke in October 2024 while on tour with Hanson in Canada. In wake of that stroke, Sweet's management team created a GoFundMe account for the musician to help pay for the tremendous costs for his medical care, rehab and to renovate his home so it is physically accessible to the musician, who is now wheelchair bound. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 To make matters worse, Sweet's wife, who was trained to take over as his primary caretaker once he moved back into their Omaha, Neb. home, suffered a fall and severely broke her leg, requiring her to have immediate surgery and round-the-clock nursing care along with Matthew. Sweet's manager Russell Carter, took to Facebook on Friday, June 6 to share the news and ask for more support from his fans, although more than $600,000 has been raised to date. 'To begin, Matthew wants all of you to know that he would not be where he is today without your profoundly generous support. A day does not pass without him acknowledging how lucky he is to have caring family, friends, music business associates and fans,' he wrote. Carter added some details about Sweet's current physical condition. 'Matthew is wheelchair bound due to a lack of coordination in his legs (caused by stroke induced ataxia) and he does not have sufficient coordination in his hands to even try to play instruments. He cannot at this time use a walker. He also has coordination issues with his eyes which impairs his sight. While his speaking voice is only slightly impaired, he cannot sing. Doctors still cannot give Matthew a prognosis for the future which means he must soldier on daily with determination and engage in therapy hoping for the best but without knowing what the eventual outcome will be. This is a very hard predicament to endure,' he explained. Carter added that most of the money raised through the initial GoFundMe campaign has been spent and Sweet, 60, still has some remaining hospital bills that need to be paid, so he's asking for fans to donate again, if they can. 'If you can donate again to his fund, he can continue to work hard on his rehab at home and at out patient facilities and he can continue to pay his bills until one day he can hopefully return to being a self sustaining working musician,' he added. 'In the meantime , donations will go strictly to covering his basic recurring monthly expenses. Any continued support is very much appreciated.''90s Alt-Rocker Felled by Medical Emergency Still Needs Your Help Amid Recovery first appeared on Parade on Jun 6, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
