Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu leads campaign against drugs
GUNTUR: In a decisive move to combat drug abuse, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched a full-scale campaign against ganja and narcotics, vowing to make Andhra Pradesh a drug-free State.
Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, scores of students, government employees, and people rallied behind the slogan 'No Drugs Bro', symbolising a united front in the fight against substance abuse.
Naidu joined citizens and students on a walkathon in Guntur, from Fever Hospital Junction to Mirchi Dhaba. Holding banners and chanting slogans, participants pledged their support for a drug-free society. Addressing the gathering after the rally, the Chief Minister underlined the government's firm stance: 'We will not tolerate drugs in any form. Those who sell ganja or narcotics will face strict action, including property confiscation.'
As part of its intensified crackdown on drug abuse, the State government announced it will confiscate the properties of individuals involved in the cultivation, transportation, or sale of drugs. To encourage public participation, dedicated citizen-reporting channels have been introduced, including a WhatsApp helpline (8977781972) and a toll-free number (1972), enabling people to report drug-related activities while maintaining anonymity.
The State government is also expanding its rehabilitation infrastructure with the establishment of 56 new de-addiction centres, including three of world-class standard. Additionally, fast-track courts for NDPS cases are being set up in key cities such as Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, and Tirupati.
To promote long-term awareness and prevention, schools will launch 'Eagle Clubs', while celebrities and influencers are being urged to actively participate in anti-drug campaigns. The State government will also leverage technology, deploying drones and extensive CCTV networks, to monitor and curb drug-related activities more effectively.

Rally in Belagavi against drug abuse
The police organised a rally to create awareness against drug abuse to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Belagavi on Thursday. A large number of students, NGO members and officers participated in the rally that began at the Rani Channamma Circle and ended at KLE Centenary Hall. They carried placards and raised slogans against drug abuse during their rally. Police Commissioner Borasae Bhushan Gulabrao, who flagged off the rally, said that the city police are adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug abuse. He said that special teams have been formed to trace and arrest those related to drug peddling. He said that he and his officers will soon visit schools and colleges to organise awareness creation programmes. The rally was organised in association with Jain International Trade Organisation and Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) Belagavi unit. Deputy Drug Controller M. Nagaraj, Assistant Drug Controllers K. Mallikarjun, Raghuram Nidavanda and M. Manohar and Drug Inspector Renu Prasad and M. Dayanand from the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), JITO office-bearers Harshavardhan Inchal and Abhay Adimani, event convenor Devagouda Imagoudanavar and others were present. Members of Belgaum District Retailer and Wholesale Pharma Association, KAHER, Rani Chennamma College of Pharmacy, Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy, Sagar College of Pharmacy and many more organizations joined the event.

Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there. The programme was organised by the Home Department. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation. 'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction. The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added. Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs. District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.

Coimbatore City Police, Young Indians conduct awareness programme on drugs
Coimbatore City Police and Young Indians (CII) joined hands to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with an event at Thomas Park, Race Course. A. Saravana Sundar IPS, City Police Commissioner, took part. More than 200 students from various colleges across the city came together to stand united against substance abuse and spread the message of drug-free life. Caroline Rajan, Co-Chair, Yi Health, said 'Namakku Vendam' was one of the earnest efforts to prevent society from the harms of drugs. Saumya Gayathri, Chair, Yi-Yuva, said Yi in collaboration with Yuva - a college students' network, conducted 13 events, reaching out to nearly 8,000 students. Neil Kikani, Chair- Yi Coimbatore, spoke about the importance of safeguarding our neighbourhood, friends and the city from drug abuse. Mr. Saravana Sundar that drug abuse could hinder the productivity of youth, the strength of labour and the growth of our nation. The Commissioner administered an International Day Against Drug Abuse pledge to the participants. Students from Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, KPR College of Arts, Science and Research, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science performed on the theme 'Namaku Vendam – Say No to Drugs'.
