US government gets a year of ChatGPT Enterprise for $1
Federal workers in the executive branch will have access to ChatGPT Enterprise in a partnership with the US General Services Administration, according to the pioneering San Francisco-based artificial intelligence (AI) company.
'By giving government employees access to powerful, secure AI tools, we can help them solve problems for more people, faster,' OpenAI said in a blog post announcing the alliance.
ChatGPT Enterprise does not use business data to train or improve OpenAI models and the same rule will apply to federal use, according to the company.
Earlier this year, OpenAI announced an initiative focused on bringing advanced AI tools to US government workers.
The news came with word that the US Department of Defense awarded OpenAI a $200 million contract to put generative AI to work for the military.
OpenAI planned to show how cutting-edge AI can improve administrative operations, such as how service members get health care, and also has cyber defense applications, the startup said in a post.
OpenAI has also launched an initiative to help countries build their own AI infrastructure, with the US government a partner in projects.
The tech firm's move to put its technology at the heart of national AI platforms around the world comes as it faces competition from Chinese rival DeepSeek.
DeepSeek's success in delivering powerful AI models at a lower cost has rattled Silicon Valley and multiplied calls for US big tech to protect its dominance of the emerging technology.
The OpenAI for Countries initiative was launched in June under the auspices of a drive — dubbed 'Stargate' — announced by US President Donald Trump to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure in the United States.
OpenAI, in 'coordination' with the US government, will help countries build data centers and provide customized versions of ChatGPT, according to the tech firm.
Projects are to involve 'local as well as OpenAI capital.'

Shafaq News - New Delhi Oil prices fell in Asian trade on Monday, extending declines of more than 4% last week as investors awaited the outcome of talks between the U.S. and Russia later this week on the war in Ukraine. Brent crude futures fell 33 cents, or 0.5%, to $66.26 a barrel by 0430 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were down 39 cents at $63.49. Expectations have risen for a potential end to sanctions that have limited the supply of Russian oil to international markets, after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. The talks follow increased U.S. pressure on Russia, raising the prospect that penalties on Moscow could also be tightened if a peace deal is not reached. Trump set a deadline of last Friday for Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, to agree to peace or have its oil buyers face secondary sanctions. At the same time, Washington is pressing India to reduce purchases of Russian oil. Consultancy Energy Aspect estimated Indian refiners have already purchased WTI totalling 5 million barrels for August loadings, with an incremental 5 million barrels possible depending on tender outcomes, and 5 million barrels for September loadings. WTI arbitrage to Asia remains open, and India looks set to continue absorbing U.S. crude for now, Energy Aspects said in a weekly note. Trump's higher tariffs on imports from dozens of countries, which took effect on Thursday, are expected to weigh on economic activity as they force changes to supply chains and fuel higher inflation. Chinese Firm starts work at $539m Water Project in Karbala

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has launched construction of the South Karbala Water Project, with a capacity of 16,000 cubic metres per hour, during a visit to Karbala Governorate. The 702.5-billion-Iraqi-dinar [$539 million] project, located near Karbala International Airport, will feature a main treatment plant, eight pumping stations, an intermediate station near the Visitors' Road, and transmission pipelines totalling 270 km. Al-Sudani said the government is continuing to implement its programme of development and service projects, aiming to provide essential services and improve living and economic conditions across all provinces. He stressed the need for adherence to specifications, proper preparation from the outset, and the engagement of an engineering consultant with the necessary technical inspections. Iraq ranks third in Arab world for solar panel imports from China in H1 2025
Baghdad ( – Iraq has emerged as the third-largest Arab importer of solar panels from China during the first half of 2025, according to a report from a Washington-based energy research unit. This ranking is attributed to the launch of numerous new solar energy projects across the country. The report highlights a broader trend in the Arab world to leverage its abundant sustainable natural potential, including some of the highest solar radiation levels globally. This push aims to diversify the electricity mix and reduce reliance on oil and gas. In the first six months of this year, countries like Iraq, Algeria, and Sudan joined the list of the top 10 Arab importers of Chinese solar panels for the first time, replacing other nations such as Oman. Iraq made a significant leap to the third position on the list, importing 0.95 gigawatts (GW) of solar panels. This marks a substantial increase from the 0.14 GW imported during the same period last year, representing an annual rise of 0.81 GW. This surge is consistent with major new projects, such as the 250 MW solar plant being developed with France's TotalEnergies, which is set to open by year-end. The top 10 list of Arab countries importing solar panels from China in the first half of 2025 is led by Saudi Arabia, followed by the United Arab Emirates, then Iraq, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Yemen, Sudan, and Lebanon.
