Assam student arrested for sending death threat to rapper Emiway Bantai
NAVI MUMBAI: The police have arrested a 19-year-old BCom student from Assam for allegedly sending a death threat with a ransom demand of ₹1 crore to rapper Bilal Shaikh, better known by his stage name Emiway Bantai.
The accused, identified as Arulv Rameshkumar Alohi, was arrested following a technical analysis of a threatening message he allegedly sent to the official mobile number of Bantai Records, a label owned by the rapper, on May 25.
The police learnt that the message had been sent from the Sonitpur district of Assam, from where the accused was tracked and brought to Navi Mumbai for further questioning.
'While the arrest has been made, we are probing whether the accused acted independently or was following instructions from a larger network,' said an officer from the NRI Coastal police station. Alohi was produced before a court on Wednesday, which remanded him in police custody till Thursday, the officer added.
In the threat message, the accused identified himself as Goldy Brar, a Canada-based close associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The message also mentioned the name of US-based Rohit Godara, another close associate of the gangster, officers said.
The timing of the threat coincided with a song released by Bantai on May 26 titled Tribute to Sidhu Moose Wala, almost exactly three years after the popular Punjabi musician was assassinated by unidentified assailants. The police had claimed that Bishnoi, who has been in jail since 2014, was the mastermind behind the killing, for which Brar had also claimed responsibility.

'For us it is an existential issue, an issue of our national interest, safety, of our future and the future of our children, of our country,' Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, responding to US President Donald Trump's controversial remark comparing Russia and Ukraine to 'fighting kids'. The overnight assault, described as 'massive' by Russia's defence ministry, was billed as retaliation for a daring Ukrainian drone attack on Russian airbases earlier this week. According to news agency AFP, Ukrainian officials said the barrage struck nine regions, including Lviv, Volyn and Kyiv, leaving dozens injured and critical infrastructure damaged. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of escalating the war, warning that failure to rein in Russia would amount to complicity. 'If someone does not put pressure and gives the war more time to take lives, they are complicit and responsible. We need to act decisively,' he said on social media. Three emergency responders were killed in Kyiv while attending to earlier strikes, according to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. 'They were working under fire to help people,' he said, noting nine more were wounded and 'doctors are fighting for their lives.' AFP journalists in Kyiv reported prolonged air raid sirens and explosions through the night. While Ukraine has proposed an unconditional 30-day ceasefire and direct talks between Zelensky and Putin, the Kremlin continues to demand a full Ukrainian military withdrawal from four occupied regions and a ban on NATO membership — conditions Kyiv rejects. Kyiv officials said at least 49 people were injured nationwide. US Embassy warns visa applicants of fraudsters after Bengaluru scam reported
The US Embassy in New Delhi has issued a warning to visa applicants, urging them to stay alert as cyber fraudsters are exploiting the recent policy changes to scam individuals seeking US visas. The embassy issued the alert following a report of US visa fraud in Bengaluru, in which a 45-year-old engineer was duped on the internet. The engineer was conned after being assured that his interview for a B-1/B2 non-immigrant visa would be embassy asked people not to share their personal details and credentials for the US visa application portal. In a post on X, the embassy said that if someone offers to fast-track the visa interview process for a fee, it is not a help but a warning came after The Deccan Herald reported that a Bengaluru-based engineer was cheated by a fraudster on a Telegram app. The victim was assured that his interview for a B-1/B-2 non-immigrant visa for a temporary visit, originally scheduled for April 2026, would be advanced. The victim from RR Nagar told the police that on May 22, he came across a channel on Telegram with information regarding the B-1/B2 visa application. Curious, the victim subscribed to the 45-year-old was immediately contacted by the scamster, who identified himself as Vanam Sravan Krishna. The engineer was told that his visa appointment could be rescheduled sooner for a nominal fee of Rs 10,000, the national English daily suspect then requested the victim's login credentials, including the password for the US visa application portal, and successfully obtained situation quickly spiralled into a nightmare for the victim, who informed the police that the fraudster initially sent a fake "appointment rescheduled" receipt. After receiving Rs 10,000 as a fee, the scammer began demanding an additional Rs 10,000, threatening to change the login credentials if the payment wasn't made, according to the paying an additional Rs 10,000, the scamsters locked the victim out of the visa portal by changing his login credentials, police said.
