Assam student arrested for sending death threat to rapper Emiway Bantai
NAVI MUMBAI: The police have arrested a 19-year-old BCom student from Assam for allegedly sending a death threat with a ransom demand of ₹1 crore to rapper Bilal Shaikh, better known by his stage name Emiway Bantai.
The accused, identified as Arulv Rameshkumar Alohi, was arrested following a technical analysis of a threatening message he allegedly sent to the official mobile number of Bantai Records, a label owned by the rapper, on May 25.
The police learnt that the message had been sent from the Sonitpur district of Assam, from where the accused was tracked and brought to Navi Mumbai for further questioning.
'While the arrest has been made, we are probing whether the accused acted independently or was following instructions from a larger network,' said an officer from the NRI Coastal police station. Alohi was produced before a court on Wednesday, which remanded him in police custody till Thursday, the officer added.
In the threat message, the accused identified himself as Goldy Brar, a Canada-based close associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The message also mentioned the name of US-based Rohit Godara, another close associate of the gangster, officers said.
The timing of the threat coincided with a song released by Bantai on May 26 titled Tribute to Sidhu Moose Wala, almost exactly three years after the popular Punjabi musician was assassinated by unidentified assailants. The police had claimed that Bishnoi, who has been in jail since 2014, was the mastermind behind the killing, for which Brar had also claimed responsibility.

‘Issue of our national interest': Russia's Ukraine war is 'existential', says Kremlin; massive strikes hit Kyiv
File photo: Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov (Picture credit: AP) Russia declared its war in Ukraine an 'existential' battle for its survival on Friday, just hours after launching one of its most intense aerial attacks in the three-year conflict. At least three people were killed in Kyiv as more than 400 drones and over 40 missiles were fired across six regions of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. 'For us it is an existential issue, an issue of our national interest, safety, of our future and the future of our children, of our country,' Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, responding to US President Donald Trump's controversial remark comparing Russia and Ukraine to 'fighting kids'. The overnight assault, described as 'massive' by Russia's defence ministry, was billed as retaliation for a daring Ukrainian drone attack on Russian airbases earlier this week. According to news agency AFP, Ukrainian officials said the barrage struck nine regions, including Lviv, Volyn and Kyiv, leaving dozens injured and critical infrastructure damaged. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Moscow of escalating the war, warning that failure to rein in Russia would amount to complicity. 'If someone does not put pressure and gives the war more time to take lives, they are complicit and responsible. We need to act decisively,' he said on social media. Three emergency responders were killed in Kyiv while attending to earlier strikes, according to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. 'They were working under fire to help people,' he said, noting nine more were wounded and 'doctors are fighting for their lives.' AFP journalists in Kyiv reported prolonged air raid sirens and explosions through the night. In one district, a multi-storey building was left with a gaping hole, and windows were shattered across nearby homes. 'We heard a drone — we heard it coming very close, and then there was an explosion,' resident Ksenia was quoted as saying by AFP. The attacks follow a Ukrainian strike on Russian airfields that damaged nuclear-capable bombers deep within Siberia. The Ukrainian operation involved smuggling over 100 small drones into Russia, positioning them near airbases, and launching a coordinated assault. In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of retaliation, with Russia's defence ministry claiming it hit Ukrainian 'arms depots, drone factories and repair facilities' using long-range precision weapons. Despite US-backed peace efforts, talks between Kyiv and Moscow have produced no breakthroughs. While Ukraine has proposed an unconditional 30-day ceasefire and direct talks between Zelensky and Putin, the Kremlin continues to demand a full Ukrainian military withdrawal from four occupied regions and a ban on NATO membership — conditions Kyiv rejects. Kyiv officials said at least 49 people were injured nationwide. In Russia, drone attacks reportedly damaged facilities in Tula and Saratov, and air defences downed 174 Ukrainian drones overnight, according to Moscow's defence ministry.

Netanyahu Confirms Israel Arming Groups Opposed To Hamas In Gaza: 'What's Bad About That'
Last Updated: Israel- Hamas War: Benjamin Netanyahu defended the decision, saying, 'What's wrong with this? It saves the lives of Israeli soldiers." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Tel Aviv is arming factions in Gaza that oppose Hamas, prompting fierce criticism and warnings from former officials as well as defence analysts. It was earlier reported that Benjamin Netanyahu personally approved the transfer of weapons to a Gaza-based group led by Yasser Abu Shabab, a controversial figure linked to a local clan in Rafah. In a video posted on social media, Benjamin Netanyahu defended the decision, saying, 'What's wrong with this? It saves the lives of Israeli soldiers. Publicising it only helps Hamas." Defence Officials Confirm Weapons Transfers Reports claimed, citing Israeli defence sources, that the weapons- primarily Kalashnikov rifles, including some seized from Hamas- were provided to the Abu Shabab group with Benjamin Netanyahu's authorisation to the clan which operates in the Rafah area, currently under Israeli military control. Earlier, Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party and former defence minister, accused Benjamin Netanyahu of bypassing cabinet approval to arm a group of 'criminals and felons, identified with the Islamic State group". He said, 'To my knowledge, this did not go through cabinet," adding that the move endangers Israeli national security. Clan Backed By Benjamin Netanyahu Accused of Looting Aid, Ties Denied The armed group, which calls itself the Popular Forces, claims its purpose is to protect humanitarian aid convoys in Gaza. However, reports suggest the faction has instead been looting those convoys. The European Council on Foreign Relations previously labelled Abu Shabab's group a 'criminal gang." Hamas has condemned the group, accusing its members of 'theft and betrayal". Meanwhile, Abu Shabab, in a statement posted online, denied receiving Israeli support, saying, 'Our weapons are simple, outdated, and came through the support of our own people." Benjamin Netanyahu 'Restless'? Former deputy IDF chief and opposition politician Yair Golan, who leads the Democrats party, called the move 'reckless." In a post on X, he wrote, 'Netanyahu is a threat to Israel's national security. Instead of securing a deal to bring home the hostages and ensuring the safety of Israeli citizens, he's creating a new ticking time bomb in Gaza." About the Author First Published:
