Man pleads guilty, woman sentenced to probation in Christmas Eve drive-by shooting
Jaevon Wells, 31, of Trotwood, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and having weapons while under disability in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
Three counts of felonious assault were dismissed.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 6.
Tre'a Miller, 26, also of Trotwood, was sentenced to up to five years of probation, according to court records. She was ordered not to have contact with the victim as a condition of her community control sanctions.
If Miller violates her probation, she could spend eight to 12 years in prison.
She previously pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault. Two other felonious assault charges were dismissed.
Around 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2024, Montgomery County sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting near Fortman and Hackett drives.
Deputies found a man with gunshot wounds and recovered multiple shell cases, according to the sheriff's office.
Security footage showed there was a drive-by shooting involving a white Ford Fusion.
During the investigation, deputies identified Miller and Wells as the shooters, the sheriff's office said.

The Trump administration is taking a "zero tolerance" approach to attacks on law enforcement after a Texas police officer was shot outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center. In Alvarado, a suburb of Fort Worth, several suspects were arrested after an officer with the Alvarado Police Department was shot at around 11 p.m. while responding to reports of a suspicious person, FOX Dallas reported. When the officer tried making contact with the person, shots were fired and the officer was struck in the neck. The officer was flown to a Fort Worth hospital for treatment and was later released. Several armed suspects fled but were arrested with the help of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and other authorities, the news station reported.

Police involved in shooting in southwest Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One person is injured following an officer-involved shooting in southwest Albuquerque Friday afternoon. According to the Albuquerque Police Department, a male was shot by an officer near the 2100 block of South Branch Dr., which is north of Gibson Blvd. and east of Messina Dr., S.W. APD said they were called around 12:30 p.m. to the home due to a fight. When they arrived, a 21-year-old man walked out with a gun, possibly a BB gun or airsoft, and aimed it at officers. At least one officer fired their gun, hitting the man. 'We are learning the individual does have a mental history that goes back. Apparently, there was some kind of commotion today within the home, and he's the one who actually called officers. He was breathing when he was transported to the hospital, and is currently at the hospital going through surgery,' said Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina. No officers were injured during the shooting. No other information about the shooting has been released at this time. KRQE News 13 will provide updates as more information is released. A four-year-old died after a drive-by shooting at a Detroit playground. Now two teens have been charged
Two teenage suspects have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting at a playground that killed an unarmed 18-year-old and a four-year-old in Michigan, the Wayne County prosecutor announced. Brandon Ware, 18, and William Wheeler, 19, are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count assault with intent to murder, two counts discharge from a vehicle causing death, one count discharge from a vehicle causing serious injury, and five counts felony firearm charges after Samir Grubbs, 4, and Daviyon Shelmonson-Bey, 18, were fatally shot. A third, unnamed 17-year-old was also wounded in the June 27 shooting. "In this day and age of social media and electronics when less children are playing outside, it is refreshing when children want to go outside and enjoy one of their local parks. Because of the alleged criminal actions of the now charged defendants in this case, a precious four-year-old is dead and another wounded," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement, per Fox2. "This is truly an American tragedy, and hopefully it is not one that will have a chilling effect on children simply wanting to play outdoors," Worthy added. Detroit police believe the alleged shooting occurred after an earlier altercation on a bus that resulted in a male taking Ware's ski mask off his head. Ware then got off the bus and later rode in a truck driven by Wheeler to Skinner Playfield, near Denby High School, where the former fired at people he believed were involved in the earlier incident, investigators say. The shooting killed Shelmonson-Bey and Grubbs, who was at the park with his mom and four siblings, Fox2 reports. The former's father told the outlet he was trying to protect another child at the playground. None of the victims knew each other. An investigation by Detroit police led to Ware and Wheeler being arrested on Wednesday. They were arraigned Saturday.
