BLACKPINK's Jennie, IU targeted in shocking prostitution claims allegations; furious K-pop fans demand podcast be sued

Time of India28-05-2025

The K-pop industry is once again mired in scandal following a controversial episode of the Above the Influence podcast. The episode features a series of shocking and unverified allegations involving top-tier idols like BLACKPINK's Jennie and soloist IU. Claims ranged from prostitution rings involving entertainment agencies to personal accusations of sexual transactions with wealthy elites.
A recent episode of the Above the Influence podcast featured entrepreneur and influencer Kira, who claims to have dated Bigbang member TOP. During the conversation, Kira went on to make a series of controversial allegations, stating that some female idols are involved in prostitution with powerful and wealthy businessmen. According to her, even top-tier stars have been part of these arrangements, adding fuel to long-standing rumors about the hidden side of the K-pop industry.
Podcast co-host alleges The BMW heir paid to sleep with Jennie.
In one of the podcast's most shocking moments, co-host Woohak alleged that he once met the son of a BMW heir at summer camp, who bragged about paying to sleep with Jennie of BLACKPINK. He went on to claim that he had even seen a video of the encounter, although no such footage has ever surfaced, and no evidence was presented to support the accusation. The co-host did not name the individual or confirm any details, but the shocking mention of Jennie's name quickly trended across social platforms, prompting widespread speculation and outrage.
Guest claims prostitution is rampant in K-pop, names IU
Kira then made sweeping claims about alleged prostitution among female K-pop idols. She claimed that rich men, particularly Chinese businessmen, could pay entertainment companies to spend a night with idols — even the most famous ones. Kira stated that "there's a price tag on every celebrity" and claimed a night with IU could cost $500,000. Although she provided no evidence and it's unclear whether she has any direct knowledge of such arrangements, her statements have sparked intense criticism for irresponsibly involving real individuals and reinforcing harmful stereotypes.
K-pop fandom unites against claims
As the explosive podcast episode gained traction online, global K-pop fandoms rallied to defend BLACKPINK's Jennie and soloist IU. Outraged by the serious and unverified allegations, fans flooded social media with calls for accountability, urging both idols' agencies—YG Entertainment and EDAM Entertainment—to take immediate legal action against the podcast hosts for defamation.
After K-pop fans slammed Wootak, he offered an Instagram explanation, writing, "All you K-pop stans freaking out rn. I am not hating on or attacking Jennie; I am simply telling a story I heard. It was not bashing out but simply repeating it because the topic was how darke K-pop industry can be and why idols have high suicide rates and how crazy these "slave" contracts can be.
Whoever clipped that left out context but honestly, hate all you want don't care. You're saying and accusing me of things that simply aren't true. you can do ten minutes of searching to find the same conspiracies and accusations about the K-pop industry. I have nothing against Jennie and brought it up because of how wild it sounds. If you want to have a meltdown every time somene criticises the industry that signs your favorite celebrities to slave contracts then be my guest but go touch some fucking grass."
However, his explanation invited further backlash, with one user writing, "There is a dark sideo K-pop, but there's no way there's a sex tape of Jennie or IU or the ability to buy them like that. You all could have been vague that some idols can be bought in private, but no, you all had to tell a big-ass lie that you can buy Jennie for 5k and fuck. Fuck that podcast."

Another wrote, "How was it in defense of Jennie and K-pop idols when after he mentions the story one of the girls says, 'Did it look good?' in reference to a rumored sex tape recorded without Jennie's knowledge? Above the Influence podcast is a joke and disgusting, and they should be sued."

A third said, "This man literally said that he saw the "sex tape" and now he is saying it is something that he simple "heard" what an a**hole. Both IU and Jennie should sue these jobless people."

One individual added, "These people are playing the victim on their ig stories and saying kpop fans are overly sensitive, yet they're the ones who made serious accusations against Jennie and IU, calling them whores and making up stories pulled straight out of their asses. STOP ACTING LIKE A VICTIM."

Recently, the controversy escalated, with other groups being drawn into the fray and alleged evidence against them surfacing. Given the high-profile nature of the groups implicated, the issue has garnered significant attention and scrutiny. Stray Kids, ENHYPEN and more dragged in THE BOYZ's controversy Popular K-pop boy groups like Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, ATEEZ and ASTRO were alleged to be involved in similar controversial activities as THE BOYZ. On June 10-11, several chat screenshots were posted on social media platform Threads, which included conversations between young female influencers, who reminisced about their alleged partying with the top stars. The individuals who got caught up in the scandal were– ATEEZ's Mingi, Stray Kids, ENHYPEN and Astro's Cha Eun Woo and MJ. Here's what all were discussed regarding them in the chat: An anonymous post included a person gushing over MJ's good looks, however, their main bias seemed to be Cha Eun Woo, who was allegedly also present at the party. "Even ASTRO was there. MJ was f*cking handsome. We really had so much fun. He's so good at drinking. But anyway, it's Cha Eunwoo for me," the text read. Mingi was mentioned as someone who claimed to be a director at a skincare clinic, hiding his K-pop idol identity. "But I really had no clue who he was then, but he was ATEEZ's Mingi. No wonder everyone kept calling him Mingi, but I just thought he was really a director," the post mentioned. ENHYPEN and Stray Kids allegedly involved in hanging out with female influencers An individual recounted a 10-hour-long hangout session with the members of THE BOYZ, ENHYPEN, Stray Kids and ATEEZ, and desperately longed for those moments again. Regarding that they said, "It was legendarily fun. I wanna KMS. Sigh." Another screenshot read, "It was a meeting of f*cking handsome people. ENHYPEN and Stray Kids. They're really so handsome. My heart was fluttering. I'm sorry, but I was happy the entire day." Although the source of the texts have not been uncovered, their claims brought intense scrutiny against the mentioned artists.

Did MONSTA X's Hyungwon's girlfriend 'switch over' to THE BOYZ's Sunwoo? Here's how Minhyuk got dragged into drama

MONSTA X's Hyungwon has unexpectedly found himself entangled in the ongoing controversy surrounding THE BOYZ. A new wave of dating and behavioral rumors has been spreading across the K-pop scene. What began as isolated allegations against members of THE BOYZ, including claims of underage drinking, smoking, and secret relationships, has quickly escalated. The rumors have now expanded to include male idols from several other groups, including MONSTA X. Hyungwon and fellow member Minhyuk have become the latest names swept up in the viral rumor mill. Viral post links Hyungwon and Sunwoo Earlier, it was claimed that THE BOYZ's Sunwoo is currently dating an Instagram influencer named Juuhana. But the twist? On June 10, a post on X (formerly Twitter) alleges that she previously dated Hyungwon from MONSTA X. It soon went viral. The now-viral claim read, 'The girl Hyungwon from MONSTA X was dating switched over to Kim Sunwoo, so Minhyuk went to the waiting room and told Kim Sunwoo to get his act together.' This unexpected narrative fueled speculation online, prompting intense scrutiny from fans and netizens alike. Minhyuk also caught in the crossfire Shortly after the post spread, another anonymous account uploaded a now-deleted photo. It allegedly shows Minhyuk on a date with a woman at Seoul Forest on Memorial Day (June 6). The caption suggested a deeper involvement between Minhyuk and the developing situation, though the photo has since been removed. While the authenticity of the photo remains unverified, it has only added fuel to the fire. It further dragged MONSTA X members into the chaos. Agency breaks silence On June 11, THE BOYZ's agency finally addressed the situation. In an official statement, the company denounced the spreading of baseless allegations. They also warned of strict legal action against anyone distributing or fabricating false information. Fans split between concern and fatigue The news has left fans divided. Some expressed concern over the constant invasion of idols' privacy and the spread of harmful narratives. However, others showed support for Hyungwon and Minhyuk, calling for verified facts before jumping to conclusions. As of now, MONSTA X agency has not addressed the dating rumors, and the alleged connection between Hyungwon, Sunwoo, and Juuhana remains unconfirmed.
