Belal Muhammad pressures Kamaru Usman to accept fight between ex-UFC champs
Why? Because he's focused only on what's next for him – which he hopes is a fight against Kamaru Usman.
"Honestly, for me, I'm not even really paying attention to anybody else," Muhammad said during a fan Q&A before UFC 319. "I'm looking at my next fight, my next opponent. If you guys see Usman around here, make sure you tell him that I'm looking for him."
Muhammad the opportunity to publicly apply pressure on Usman in front of fans should come as no surprise. The two former UFC champs have been feuding since May following Muhammad's appearance on Usman's "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with Henry Cejudo. During the interview, Muhammad and Usman had a contentious verbal exchange. The episode – which was filmed before Muhammad's loss to Della Maddalena at UFC 315 – was never released.
Muhammad and Usman have continued to trade barbs since then. With Muhammad losing his title and Usman snapping a three-fight skid by defeating Joaquin Buckley in June at UFC Atlanta, a Muhammad vs. Usman fight could make sense – even if Usman doesn't necessarily agree.
Muhammad has other options near the top of the welterweight division, including Ian Machado Garry. But there's no question whom he's looking to meet in the cage next.
"Just waiting for one of these guys to stop talking and sign the contract. We're looking for Usman," Muhammad said. "We're ready. I'm ready, I've been ready, I'm healthy, I've been training. … I'm ready. I'm hungry.

Gable Steveson's mixed martial arts debut is officially set. On Tuesday, the LFA announced that the standout wrestling phenom from the University of Minnesota is officially set to make his fighting debut at LFA 217 on Friday, Sept. 12 from Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn. The event streams live on UFC Fight Pass. Steveson is slated to face Braden Peterson, who makes his second pro appearance. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist finally puts the MMA gloves on after a storied collegiate wrestling career, which includes two national championships, two Dan Hodge Trophy wins, and five All-American nods. Steveson recently was part of the WWE developmental system before being released in May 2024. Steveson then returned to college for his final year of eligibility at Minnesota but suffered an upset loss to Wyatt Hendrickson in the final match of the season at the NCAA Wrestling National Championships. After the wrestling season was over, Steveson started focusing more on fight training including stops in Las Vegas where he worked with coaches at Syndicate MMA and he's also counted UFC legend Jon Jones has one of his mentors after helping him prepare for a fight against Stipe Miocic. With a couple of impressive victories, it seems likely that Steveson could make the jump to the UFC. Peterson looks to play spoiler in his sophomore pro appearance. In his pro debut, 'Bloodaxe' picked up a 14 second TKO win over Chris Thompson for Fusion Fight League, a reigional promotion out of Montana. LFA is one of the top developmental promotions in the world, and has sent a slew of fighters on to the UFC, or other major MMA promotions. Most recently, LFA women's bantamweight champ Bia Mesquita signed to the UFC, and will debut at UFC Rio on Oct. 11.

Paulo Costa draws confidence from Yoel Romero fight to send Khamzat Chimaev stern warning
Paulo Costa insists UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev won't be able to impose his will on him. Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) dethroned Dricus Du Plessis in dominant fashion to claim the middleweight title in Saturday's UFC 319 headliner at United Center in Chicago. Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) had no answer for Chimaev, who landed 12 takedowns and had more than 21 minutes of control time. Costa (15-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) says knowing he outlasted Olympic silver medalist wrestler Yoel Romero in his fifth UFC fight in 2019, he's confident that he'll have the strength to fend off Chimaev's wrestling. "He dominate Dricus, but he could not do the same thing that he used to do against welterweights," Costa said of Chimaev on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "Like, maul the guys, finish the guys. When he face a real middleweight, a really heavy middleweight, he's going to have some problems. He's going to look boring. All the other fights, he was in exciting fights because the guys couldn't handle him. Even (Robert) Whittaker. Whittaker is kind of fast, super high-level, but not strong enough to stop a guy like him. Dricus is a real middleweight in my opinion, because he came from, I don't know, maybe 230 pounds to fight at 96 kilos on fight day. That's what I do. I know how to handle these guys. "Remember my fight against (Yoel) Romero? Romero is a high-level wrestler and very good also. He couldn't put me down. "Motherf*cker, look, you know who I am. I'm coming for you," Costa said. "You can hide as much as you want. I know how to fight you. You're going to rush as you always do. You're going to do your sh*t thing. You're going to shoot on my legs. I know that, I expect that, I'm ready for that, but then guess what? We have five rounds. "I'm going to (make) you pay for every time you shoot on my legs. That's what my coach Eric (Albaraccin) taught me to do. I'm going to make you pay. Gable Steveson sets date for his MMA debut originally appeared on The Sporting News For Gable Steveson, the next mountain to try and climb and conquer will see him enter the cage. The former NCAA Division I wrestling national champion has signed on the dotted line to make his mixed martial arts debut. Steveson will square off with Braden Peterson on September 12 at Legacy Fighting Alliance 217.
