Japanese delegation visits Thiruvananthapuram Technopark to explore auto tech ecosystem

Technopark offers immense opportunities for top companies, with an existing ecosystem that leverages cutting-edge technologies such as AI, robotics, machine learning, and blockchain,' Sanjeev Nair said during his interaction with the delegation on Monday.
'Fruitful collaborations between companies are possible within the Technopark ecosystem through the exchange of technology and resources,' he said.
'We are impressed by the scale of Technopark's tech ecosystem with companies of diverse verticals and domains functioning under an umbrella,' said Kanji Ueda.
'It is also notable that there are many Technopark companies that are into advanced automotive tech and we could explore the possibilities for a collaboration in CAD applications,' he said.
DSI Technologies has been operating out of Technopark phase I campus for the last two decades, and is an end-to-end engineering service provider offering CAD-CAE modelling and design, CAE analysis, CG modelling and customisation of software products globally to industries in Automotive, Heavy Engineering, Transportation and Aerospace sectors.

Around 40 percent of kitchen blades produced in Seki, where knifemaking expertise dates back 700 years, are exported to the United States, local authorities say. The two countries announced Wednesday they had cut a deal to lower the 25-percent tariffs on Japanese goods threatened by US President Donald Trump -- starting on August 1 -- to 15 percent. "Lower tariffs are better" but "I'm not that surprised" at the trade deal, said Katsumi Sumikama, head of Sumikama Cutlery in Seki. "I don't know what truly happened, but I feel like maybe Trump thought tariffs up to 15 percent were acceptable, and boldly proposed a higher tariff rate at first," Sumikama told AFP. "Then as the negotiations took shape, he tried to create a good impression in the public eye by lowering it from 25 percent. That kind of strategy would be so Trump-like." The US leader, who hailed the Japan deal as "massive", has vowed to hit dozens of countries with punitive tariffs if they do not hammer out a pact with Washington by the end of July. Japan is one of five nations to have signed an agreement -- along with Britain, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines -- after Trump said in April he would strike "90 deals in 90 days". If Trump is "trying to make America strong by deliberately raising tariffs" he should know that "problems cannot be solved by such simple means", Sumikama said, adding that "American people will have to bear the burden of higher costs". Sumikama Cutlery, which has about 30 workers, uses machines that guarantee accuracy to one-thousandth of a millimetre to make the knives, then artisans finish the job by hand. Japanese knives make food taste better, "have unique 'wabi-sabi' aesthetics" -- meaning beauty in imperfection -- "and when it comes to sharpness, they're second to none", Sumikama said. "Different countries have different strengths and weaknesses... even if President Trump tells people to make (Japanese-style) knives, they cannot."

Assam govt incentivises Japanese language learning for youth
Guwahati: The Assam Government has decided to incentivise the Japanese language learning for the youths of Assam across the state and said that the state government will give a scholarship of Rs. 1.5 lakh to each student who pursues Japanese language. The State Cabinet has approved to launch the scheme, namely Chief Minister's Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT), to provide structured foreign language training (eg, JLPT N2 level) and facilitate overseas employment of Assamese youth under various overseas visa programmes in other countries. These agencies will impart Japanese language training and facilitate overseas employment of Assamese youth under Japan's Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa programme. It will help in addressing the issue of unemployment and underemployment in Assam by providing access to the international job market. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the minimum salary for the youths in Japan is Rs. 2.5 lakh per month. Sarma said that the state's share in the loan will be 10 percent while the Central government will return the 90 percent of the loan. 'We are going to use this loan amount for training the teachers on maths and science, training the head teachers at the school on management, to promote work on science and technology and to stop school dropouts in Assam,' he said 'A total of 400 schools in the state will get Rs. 3 crores to Rs. 5 crore each to develop their infrastructure and will spend about Rs. 25 lakh each for upgrading about 1733 Anganwadi Centres in the state,' he said. The Chief Minister said that this will help revamp the education sector in Assam and will lead to a positive change. The State Cabinet has approved the Collective Infrastructure Development of Apartment Buildings through Funding from MLALADS and United Fund to ensure government welfare schemes reach the residents of these apartments. The Eligibility criteria for getting benefits under the Scheme include the minimum number of apartments in a building should be 16, the society must be registered under the Societies Registration Act, at least 80% of the apartments should be occupied.
