Ward 38 councillor C Saranya, who belongs to the ruling DMK, criticised the civic body's inefficiency in addressing grievances. She said the civic body does not have the proper equipment to clear the silt from the UGD. 'How can they address the bigger issues that would affect residents,' she asked.
AIADMK floor leader G Sankar told TNIE, 'Actually the corporation is struggling with a small number of staff to carry out even their regular duties. When this is the case, how can they address the grievances of residents.' Other councillors also echoed the same view and said that an acute staff shortage in all departments prevented the corporation from addressing the grievances of the public.
However, in some cases, residents said the system helped fix accountability on officials and get issues resolved faster.
Speaking to TNIE, Murali Deskian of Thiruchendurnagar 2nd Street, who raised a grievance on drainage overflow, said earlier it would take a few days to resolve such complaints but now it was addressed within five hours. 'I wish the same kind of response is maintained for all complaints across the corporation limits.'
The officials said that according to the SoP, the grievance is first forwarded to field staff to attend, then to supervisor-level officers to ensure it is addressed, and finally it would be cross-checked by senior officials like assistant engineers.
A senior TCMC official said the ICCC allows real-time tracking of civic issues and it helps in improving accountability across departments. 'By integrating service requests and responses, we aim to bring efficiency and transparency to urban governance. Public feedback helps us identify lapses and improve further,' the official said.

DMK, AIADMK look to youth to run booth committees
Chennai: Both AIA and DMK are focusing on involving youth in booth committees to use technology to reach out to voters and to counter actor Vijay's perceived appeal especially among young voters. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The leadership has stipulated that its booth committee members should be below the age of 45, while the DMK is roping in youth wing members. Tamil Nadu has 68,467 polling booths for 6.37 crore voters. Party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is firm on the age limit and the AIADMK headquarters is vetting the committees; district secretaries have submitted the details with photographs of the members. The party had 19 members per committee during general elections; this time it's aiming for nine. "Previously, elders also formed part of the committee. Now the IT wing is carefully examining the members to ensure compliance," said a district secretary. In some places, the party is reportedly facing challenges in finding youth willing to be members. The DMK plans to have 10 to 12 members per committee and inclusion of youth wing members is mandatory unlike in the past. A youth wing member from each booth will receive training in the effective use of social media. "The observers posted by the DMK headquarters for each assembly constituency are tasked with tweaking the composition of booth committees to make them effective," said a leader. Meanwhile, Vijay's TVK, which had a meeting for booth agents in Coimbatore in April, is planning another meeting in a different region to demonstrate its presence across the state. TVK functionaries also question whether the Dravidian majors can fill their booth committees. "These parties should display the strength of their members like our leader, Vijay," a TVK functionary said.

Kanimozhi calls on Stalin after Operation Sindoor outreach; BJP praises her
Chennai: DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi called on chief minister M K Stalin at his residence on Wednesday after completing her Operation Sindoor outreach to five different countries. After the meeting, Stalin appreciated Kanimozhi for her statement in Spain that the national language of India was 'Unity in Diversity'. "I am proud of my sister Kanimozhi for being the voice of India and speaking about unity," Stalin said in a social media post. When she was in Spain, Kanimozhi was responding to a question from the media there about the national language of India. The video of her spontaneous response went viral on social media and had won applause from various quarters. Even the BJP leaders including TN BJP president Nainar Nagenthran welcomed the remarks. She was heading one of the all party panels formed by the BJP govt which was sent to various countries to present India's perspective on terrorist elements in Pakistan and Operation Sindoor. Her delegation visited Russia, Latvia, Slovakia, Greece and Spain where the team met the govt representatives and gave a call for unity against terrorism.

DGP holds meet, reviews law & order situation ahead of Bakrid
Ranchi: State DGP Anurag Gupta on Wednesday reviewed security and law preparedness with all districts ahead of the Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) festival on June 7. During the meeting held virtually at the police headquarters in presence of other senior cops, the DGP took stock of the sensitive areas, past incidents of communal and untoward incidents and gave directions to all districts to remain on guard till peaceful passage of the festival. "All districts must focus on preventive actions against anti-social elements in view of the upcoming festival," he said, directing them to assess availability and deployment of magistrates and forces for maintaining law and order. "Security measures around religious and sensitive locations, such as CCTV installation, videography, and drone surveillance must be done as per the standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said, asking for operation of joint control room and emergency planning to tackle any emergency situation. Districts have already started peace committee meetings with various stakeholders and civil society groups in run up to the festival. Gupta also directed districts, mainly the sensitive ones, to ensure timely availability of anti-riot equipment, vehicles, water cannons, and arrangements for anti-riot control drills. "Special vigil on social media and control over provocative songs by DJs/other sound systems should be enforced," he said, besides strict surveillance on the trafficking of prohibited animals.
