What Cavs Would Have to Give Up to Bring LeBron James Back
The Dallas Mavericks shocked the world back in February when they dealt franchise centerpiece Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers before the trade deadline.

The historic swap sent Anthony Davis to Dallas along with a first round pick in a move that clearly signaled a move toward the future.
Lakers star LeBron James had a player option on his contract this offseason which he picked up, but as Los Angeles focuses on the future, he appears to be evaluating where he fits in.
There has been speculation that the king could be traded for the first time this offseason to a location that he deems more championship ready than the Lakers currently are.

There has been no concrete information to suggest that James will request a trade, but if he does, there are people who believe the Cleveland Cavaliers will be major players.

The four-time NBA champion spent his first seven seasons with the team before departing for the Miami Heat, though he would eventually return for another four seasons in which he delivered Cleveland its first championship.
Because he was born nearby in Akron and spent 11 of his first 15 seasons with the team, they will naturally always be linked.
It would be difficult because of each team's financial situation, so Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus laid out an elaborate four-team trade that satisfies all salary cap regulations.
The trade is an albatross with the main components being James going home to Cleveland, the Cavs sending out Jarrett Allen and De'Andre Hunter to the Lakers and Darius Garland to the Utah Jazz, who in turn send Walker Kessler to Cleveland along with two first-round picks.

There are a few other ancillary pieces in the trade to match salaries like Dorian Finney-Smith going to the Houston Rockets.
This would be one of the most unprecedented deals in NBA history if it were to happen, but the odds are very slim.
Utah has been shopping Kessler for about a year now, but they've been seeking multiple first rounders, so it's unlikely they'd ship him off with picks attached.
Also, Cleveland has very wisely leaned into the youth they have on there roster, so it's hard to picture a scenario where they move two of their young stars for one or two more seasons of LeBron.
If the Cavs want a storybook ending where the 21-time All-Star finishes his career there, they might need to find an alternate route.

Did Bronny James retire? Explaining post about 20-year-old Lakers guard's NBA future
The Los Angeles Lakers' 20-year-old guard, Bronny James, didn't experience the most action-packed rookie campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers this past season. In 27 games with the Lakers in 2024-25, James contributed 2.3 points, 0.8 assists, and 0.7 rebounds per game, connecting on 31.3% of his field goals and 28.1% of his three-point jumpers. Advertisement However, the Cleveland, Ohio native performed well with the South Bay Lakers in the NBA G League, averaging 21.9 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per contest, shooting 44.0% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. James, who suffered a cardiac arrest before the start of his freshman campaign at USC, declared for the 2024 NBA draft in controversial fashion. The son of arguably the greatest player of all time, LeBron, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game during his lone season with the Trojans, shooting 36.6% from the field and 26.7% from three-point land. Still, the Lakers selected James with the No. 55 overall pick, enabling him to compete with his role model at the highest level of basketball. Advertisement Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp According to the popular X/Twitter account NBA Centel, however, James surprisingly announced his retirement from basketball after just one season. Did Bronny James retire? No, James did not retire following his first campaign in the big leagues. The former McDonald's All-American still has a ways to go before he reaches his full potential, but he's expected to make a significant leap with the Lakers in Year 2. Starting July. 5, James will receive valuable Summer League reps with the Lakers as he prepares for his sophomore season. While it's unclear how long James will last in the NBA, it's safe to say the journey hasn't ended yet. Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz placed on paid leave due to MLB investigation reportedly related to gambling
Luis Ortiz was supposed to start Thursday's game against the Cubs. (Photo by Frank Jansky/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz was placed on leave Thursday amid an MLB investigation, the team announced. The team did not provide details on the investigation, saying it was "not permitted to comment further at this time." The investigation is believed to be related to gambling, multiple sources told Zack Meisel and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Advertisement Ortiz, 26, will go on paid leave through the All-Star break, per Meisel. The news comes just hours before Ortiz was expected to take the mound against the Chicago Cubs. With Ortiz on leave, the Guardians will turn to Joey Cantillo to start Thursday's game. After a promising season in 2024, in which Ortiz posted a 3.32 ERA over 37 appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he was traded to the Guardians in December. He opened the season in Cleveland's rotation and has a 4.36 ERA over 88 2/3 innings. In 16 starts, Ortiz has a 4-9 record. His nine losses lead the American League. If gambling is at the center of the investigation, Ortiz could face a wide range of consequences from the league. MLB banned former infielder Tucupita Marcano for life in 2024 after it was determined he bet on his own team while he was injured. Four other players received one-year bans after it was determined they bet on baseball, though not on their own teams. Those four players were reinstated from their suspensions in June. Advertisement MLB players are not allowed to gamble on baseball or softball at any level, though can gamble on other sports. The news comes in the midst of a disappointing season for the Guardians. After entering the year with playoff aspirations, the team has a 40-44 record and sits in third place in the American League Central. Cleveland is on a six-game losing streak entering Thursday.
