According to a report in Harian Metro, Shamsul declined to elaborate further, saying the initiative was a 'surprise' and fully under wraps.
'If it's for the public, they'll be happy. If it's for civil servants, they'll be happy too, Allah willing,' he was quoted as saying.
Yesterday, Anwar hinted on Facebook that a special 'appreciation' for the people would be announced soon.
The post included the slogan 'Bersama Malaysiaku' (with my Malaysia).

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said his office has received a wide range of motions from the honourable Members of Parliament (MPs), indicating a packed and intense session ahead. 'So I call on the people on the ground, when the 13MP is tabled, they have to inform their MPs about what they want to be raised in Parliament. 'Tag their MPs (on social media) so that their voices can be heard. Don't wait until the MPs return to their constituencies to complain. Raise the issue while Parliament is in session,' he said after officiating the National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) at Taman Pekan Baru today. Johari said the sitting will probably be extended into the night to accommodate the packed schedule, beginning daily at 10am and possibly continuing until 10pm or 11pm. Johari noted that the tabling of the 13MP is particularly significant as Malaysia holds the Asean Chairmanship this year, and it offers an opportunity to showcase the country's resilience and progress amid global uncertainties. In another development, he urged the public to fully utilise services made available at Nadi centres to improve their livelihoods and economic opportunities. 'Nadi isn't just about digital access or community programmes. It can be a one-stop centre for people to obtain vital information and explore business opportunities. 'It's a platform to gain knowledge not only academically but also across various fields. I encourage youth, especially, to take advantage of these centres to learn and engage with their communities,' he said. The agreement simplifies travel, encouraging more visitors and business collaborations. According to Malaysia China Insight, a bilingual online magazine, Chinese tourist arrivals in Malaysia have surged by more than a third this year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The visa waiver has particularly benefited individual travellers and families. Chinese tourist Hong Na shared her relief over the new policy. 'Before, getting a visa required planning months ahead. It was a hassle. Now, we can just pack our bags and go whenever we want,' she said. Echo Liu, another Chinese traveller, echoed the sentiment, saying the exemption eased her first overseas trip. 'We were nervous about visas and language barriers, but everything has been smooth,' she added. The Chinese Embassy in Malaysia announced on Wednesday (July 16) that Malaysian citizens can now enjoy visa-free entry to China for short-term visits of up to 90 days within 180 days. The policy took effect on Thursday (July 17). Under the agreement, Malaysian and Chinese passport holders can enter, exit, or transit through each other's countries without a visa for stays of up to 30 days per visit. KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) has welcomed the appointment of the country's three top judges, including Chief Justice Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh. The Bersih steering committee expressed hope that Wan Ahmad's firm stance in upholding the country's principles of sovereignty will continue in his tenure as Chief Justice, noting that Wan Ahmad Farid, who had been part of the political party Umno, had recused himself from hearing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's case as a High Court judge in 2022. 'Such a stance is vital to ensure that the public respects the judiciary as a body that upholds the principle of legal sovereignty,' the committee said in a statement today, adding that it was vital for Wan Ahmad to avoid causing negative public perception towards the independence of the judicial institution. The appointment of the top three judges, Wan Ahmad Farid as Chief Justice, Datuk Abu Bakar Jais as President of the Court of Appeals and Datuk Azizah Nawawi as Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, was made public yesterday. The appointments were made based on Clause (1) of Article 122B of the Federal Constitution, after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister and after consulting the Conference of Rulers. They will receive their letters of appointment and take their oaths of office in front of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia at Istana Negara on July 28, 2025. — Bernama
