TCL Technology pioneers the first sustainability-linked offshore syndicated loan in China's display panel industry
The interest margin of the facility is linked to a series of core ESG performance indicators of TCL Technology, which are key performance indicators of the industrials and manufacturing industry recognised by the International Capital Market Association ("ICMA"). Meanwhile, TCL Technology has set up a two-way interest margin adjustment mechanism that includes both rewards and penalties, reflecting TCL Technology's strong commitment to implementing the ESG strategies and leading the sustainable development of the high-tech industry.
The sustainability-linked offshore syndicated loan garnered significant interest from 19 leading Chinese and foreign banks, with oversubscription of more than 3 times the initial target.
Li Jian, CFO of TCL Technology, said, "The successful closure of the sustainability-linked offshore syndicated loan is an important milestone for TCL Technology to promote sustainable development. It also reflects the Group's long term commitment to strengthening its ESG management system and sustainable development capabilities. We will take this opportunity to deepen the use of sustainable finance tools to improve the efficiency of capital allocation, and accelerate the transformation processes of sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon operations. TCL Technology will continue to uphold an open and cooperative attitude and explore innovative paths for the integration of corporate finance and sustainable development with all stakeholders."
Wei Xue, Vice President and ESG Director of TCL Technology, said, "We are very pleased to have successfully closed the industry's first sustainability-linked offshore syndicated loan. Sustainable development is TCL Technology's long-term business strategy and a core component of TCL brands globally. We hope to take the syndicated loan as an opportunity to combine corporate finance with ESG strategy, continuously improve the Group's ESG management capabilities, further enhance its operational capabilities to navigate through cyclical challenges under a complex and ever-changing market environment, and spread stronger wings to overcome the headwind. We look forward to working hand in hand with our partners to make every innovation a step towards a net-zero-carbon and sustainable future."
In 2024, TCL Technology officially joined the United Nations Global Compact ("UNGC"), and pledged with companies and other stakeholders from nearly 170 countries to fulfill the 10 principles of the UNGC covering human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption, and to make continuous contributions to the realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, the Group has taken a key step to establish the "Strategy and Sustainability Committee", escalated ESG management to the Board level, and established the "ESG Working Committee" to deepen the integration of environmental, social and governance aspects in the Group's strategic planning and daily operations management. Adhering to the belief that "sustainable development is not optional but necessary", TCL Technology is committed to exploring and applying digital tools to achieve more accurate and efficient carbon emission management. In addition, the company continues to implement value-sharing initiatives to promote the Group's ESG development in all aspects, such as "TCLGreen", exemplified by the TCL Photovoltaic Low-Carbon Campus project, and "TCLforHer", an initiative advocating for women's empowerment through technology and culture.

Spectacle in South Africa: Two Chery TIGGO9 Models Collide Head-On, Showing Flawless Safety Performance
JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On August 20, two Chery TIGGO9 flagship SUVs performed a 50% offset frontal collision test at 50 km/h on a long, straight paved road in South Africa, like two flawless diamonds striking each other in a master's hand—only the hardest crystal can reveal another's inner strength; only the most advanced safety structure can truly test a vehicle's integrity. After impact, both TIGGO9 cabins remained fully intact with no deformation in the A-, B-, or C-pillars. All airbags—including those for the driver, front passenger, and knees—deployed instantly upon collision. Seatbelt pre-tensioners activated promptly, all doors could be opened normally, hazard lights turned on automatically, and no fuel leakage occurred. TIGGO9 body uses 85% high-strength steel, including 21% 1500MPa hot-formed steel in critical areas like the A- and B-pillars. Its front structure features dual aluminum crash beams with 85% cross-width coverage and six crash boxes that effectively absorb and disperse impact energy. The vehicle is also equipped with 10 airbags, including a 2060mm side curtain airbag that retains over 50% pressure for 6 seconds after deployment, and a center airbag between the front seats to reduce secondary impact risks. This test represents a pivotal milestone in Chery's global six-dimensional safety challenge, building on extreme-environment validations previously conducted in regions such as Indonesia and Mexico. As the first Chinese automaker to reach five million vehicle exports, Chery was also named once again to the Fortune Global 500 list just last month. Behind this "Double 500" accomplishment lies Chery's unwavering commitment to consistent global quality—no matter where its vehicles are driven, their fundamental safety structure remains as resilient and enduring as diamond. This dedication not only embodies the vision to "Let everyone enjoy five-star protection," but also honors the brand's core philosophy: "Safety, for Family." That same evening, TIGGO9 made its official debut in the South African market. The following day, Chery joined forces with UNICEF to launch the "Champion for Education in Africa" forum, initiating a collaborative effort to address educational challenges facing children across the region. As part of this commitment, plans were announced to fund the construction of Hope Primary Schools. This effort reinforces Chery's "In Africa, For Africa" ethos, extending its safety commitment from product technology to social responsibility.

At 12 Korean universities, foreign students account for over 20%
Vietnamese students enrolled in Korean universities up sharply, while share of Chinese students on steady decline At 12 universities in South Korea, international students accounted for more than 20 percent of total enrollment, a rise from zero institutions a decade ago, a report showed Thursday. According to data compiled by the Korea Migration Research Institute, 12 out of 389 institutions, including four-year universities and two-year vocational colleges, had foreign students exceeding 20 percent of the student population last year. This marked a sharp increase from 2014, when not a single university reported such levels of foreign student enrollment. Schools where international students account for 5 to 10 percent of enrollment rose from 1.6 percent to 12.3 percent during the same period, and those in the 10 to 15 percent range expanded from none to 5.4 percent. As the presence of international students has grown, their nationalities have also become more diverse. The number of different home countries rose from 141 in 2014 to 155 last year. The report noted that enrollment of Vietnamese students has seen especially significant growth, while Chinese students, who have long made up the largest share of international students in Korea, are on a downward trend.

S. Korea's top diplomat abruptly flies to US for Lee–Trump summit
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun abruptly departed for Washington on Thursday, four days ahead of the first summit between the current leaders of South Korea and the United States. Cho's rush to Washington means he will not be part of President Lee Jae Myung's official entourage for a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo on Saturday. Cho's early departure for Washington was decided the previous day and was so hasty that he could not secure a direct flight to Washington and had to take a connecting route, The Korea Herald learned from diplomatic sources. The South Korean top diplomat's abrupt change of plans has raised concerns over whether it signals potential red flags for the upcoming in-person meeting between Lee and US President Donald Trump on Monday in Washington. However, officials downplayed the notion, saying that Cho's early departure does not indicate any problems in the Lee–Trump summit. "Minister Cho is scheduled to arrive in Washington ahead of the summit to conduct a final on-site review with US counterparts, taking into account the significance and weight of this being the first Korea-US summit since the launch of the two new administrations, and to ensure more thorough and meticulous preparations," a Foreign Ministry official said on condition of anonymity. Cho's early trip to the US was made at South Korea's suggestion with the idea that in-person consultations would be more effective, and not at Washington's request, The Korea Herald learned from diplomatic sources. Director General for North American Affairs Hong Jee-pio had already departed for Washington on Thursday morning as part of Cho's delegation. Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo and Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan have also already departed for the US, but they will not be following the same schedule as Cho in Washington, The Korea Herald additionally learned.
