Tennis champ calls for crying child to be ejected, crowd applauds
The British star was serving at a crucial point in the deciding third set, when cries from the crowd disrupted her focus on Tuesday morning (AEST).
Serving at 3-4 in the third set, Raducanu had to fend off several break points for the world No 1.
Stepping up to serve at deuce, the former US Open champ halted her motion and turned back after a child cried out, The Sun reports.
Frustrated, the British star turned to the umpire and said: 'It's been, like, 10 minutes.'
Incredulous, the umpire said: 'It's a child. Do you want me to kick the child out of the stadium?'
Looking unimpressed, Raducanu shrugged.
Then when members of the crowd started replying 'yes', the British No1 pointed to them and smiled in agreement.
As Raducanu towelled herself, the umpire said: 'I can call in, but we need to continue for the moment.'
Following an incredible 13 deuces, and after fending off four break points, Raducanu was finally able to hold serve for 4-4.
The world No. 39 did not let the incident knock her off her stride, despite the pressure put on her by Sabalenka.
The rest of the third set went with serve, meaning that the match would be decided by a final set tie-break.
Sabalenka went on to win the tie-break 7-5, squeezing into round three in the process.
Raducanu received a fantastic ovation as she exited the court, with even Sabalenka applauding her opponent's valiant effort in the three hours and 12 minutes battle.
The match was described by commentators as one of the best witnessed on the WTA Tour this year.
Sabalenka is bidding for her 10th trophy at the 1000 level and second this season after winning at Madrid.
In other third-round results at the last major tune-up prior to the US Open, Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Australian Maya Joint 6-4, 6-3.
Sorana Cirstea defeated Yuan Yue 6-7 (2/7), 6-4, 6-4 and will next play third seed Iga Swiatek, who got a walkover into the round of 16.
Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, a quarter-finalist this month in Montreal, made further hard court progress with a 6-4, 6-1 thrashing of American wildcard Taylor Townsend.
Her next opponent will be Sabalenka on Wednesday.
In the men's draw, seventh seed Holger Rune, a semi-finalist here a year ago, won his 99th career match on cement, ending the hopes of Alex Michelsen 7-6 (7/4), 6-3.
Felix Auger-Aliassime got a win for Canada, advancing 7-6 (7/4), 4-2 when French opponent Arthur Rinderknech retired with apparent heat illness after two gruelling hours on court.
American Frances Tiafoe advanced past Ugo Humbert of France 6-4, 6-4 in 82 minutes.

Alexei Popyrin falls agonisingly short in gruelling Cincinnati Open battle with Andrey Rublev
After three-and-a-half hours in sweltering Ohio heat, Alexei Popyrin just ran out of gas in an epic Cincinnati Open third-round tie with ninth seed Andrey Rublev. Popyrin lost 7–6 (7/5), 6–7 (5/7), 5–7 after a seesaw encounter that could easily have gone the other way. The Australian, himself ranked 19, will have the consolation of a very good workout ahead of the US Open, and may appreciate some rest after such a draining encounter. However, his chances of a top 16 ranking and better seeding slot in New York appear to be gone. When Rublev's passing shot beat him to seal victory with the Russian's first match point, Popyrin looked very weary, then smiled ruefully as he dragged himself to the net to give his opponent a hug. The pair had slugged it out for three tight sets, interrupted in the last by a lengthy rain break. First up on Court 3, in front of a decent crowd mainly supporting Rublev, Popyrin's opening serve was broken from 40–0 up, but he broke back immediately, helped by a brace of double-faults by the Russian. The first set thereafter went with serve to the tiebreak. After four mini-breaks, Popyrin served an ace at 5–5 then Rublev, facing set point, double-faulted. The second set went with serve to the tiebreak, albeit Popyrin had to save three break points while forcing none. After double-faulting at 4–5 in the breaker he broke for 5–5, only for Rublev to sweep the next two points and the tiebreak. The pair had been playing for more than 2 hours at this stage, in 32-degree heat. There followed an epic 28–point service game in which Popyrin forced but failed to take four break points. The match had begun in fierce sunshine shortly after 11:00am, local time, but for some time humidity had been rising and clouds building. Suddenly, with the third set poised at 2–1 to Rublev, and 30–30 on Popyrin's serve, a cloudburst flooded the court and sent players and spectators rushing for cover. Popyrin immediately went a break point down when they resumed just under an hour later, but saved it before serving out with two aces. The match then went with serve until, at 30–30 and 5–6 down, the Australian had to step away from his serve due to a ringing mobile phone. It may have made no difference but his subsequent serves were not quite there and Rublev pounced. The Russian now meets Argentina's Francisco Comensana, who beat Reilly Opelka 6–7 (4/7), 6–4, 7–5. Alejandro Tabilo gets his spot in the men's singles, which starts on August 24.

Travis Kelce spills new details on Taylor Swift romance amid album frenzy
Travis Kelce has given a rare glimpse into his romance with Taylor Swift amid frenzied excitement over her new album announcement. The NFL star appeared on the cover of GQ magazine on Tuesday, and also opened up in an interview about how the pair first fell in love. 'Whenever I'm with her, it feels like we're just regular people,' Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, explained. 'When there is not a camera on us, we're just two people that are in love. 'It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about, and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out. 'But I would say that it's as normal of … it happened very organically, even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically.' Kelce added that he and Swift, both 35, 'fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together with.' 'We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are. We share all those values. It kind of just took the f**k off.' The pair first unveiled their romance in September 2023 when Swift was spotted cheering her three-time Super Bowl-winning boyfriend on during a home game. Kelce and Swift went on to make several loved-up public appearances over the months that followed, with the athlete even popping up on stage in a cameo during his girlfriend's sold-out Eras Tour last year. According to Kelce, their mutual support and respect for each other's work has brought them even closer together. 'I hadn't experienced somebody in the same shoes as me, having a partner who understands the scrutiny, understands the ups and downs of being in front of millions,' he explained to GQ. 'That was very relatable, seeing how exhausted she would get after shows. She may not think of herself as an athlete. She will never tell anyone that she is an athlete. But I've seen what she goes through. 'I've seen the amount of work that she puts on her body, and it's mind-blowing.' The gushing interview comes just hours after Swift once again sent fans into a frenzy, re-emerging after months under the radar to reveal she's about to release her twelfth studio album: The Life of a Showgirl. The singer popped up in a teaser for Kelce's New Heights podcast this week, in which the couple appeared alongside each other, engaging in some flirty banter about how well they 'match' before dropping the big news. 'So I wanted to show you something … This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl,' Swift said as she held up the album, with Kelce adding, 'TS12!'
