Two university students killed in crash with private ambulance at traffic light
Muhammad Zuhair Rifqi Abdul Jalil, 22, who was riding the motorcycle, died on the spot in the 11am accident.
His 21-year-old pillion rider, Muhammad Firdaus Mohammad Zamri, died while receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital's (HTAA) red zone.
Acting Kuantan police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said preliminary investigations showed the collision involved a motorcycle and an ambulance transporting a patient from HTAA.
"The ambulance, with its siren activated, was attempting to turn right at the traffic light junction when the motorcycle crashed into it.
"The rider died at the scene, while the pillion passenger was rushed to HTAA, where he later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital's red zone.
"The 49-year-old ambulance driver and his 43-year-old assistant sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at HTAA," he said in a statement today.
Adli said the case is being investigated for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and urged any witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Unipsas, in a Facebook post, expressed sadness over the deaths of its two students in the tragic accident.
"Zuhair Rifqi was a Quran and Sunnah studies diploma student while Firdaus was pursuing his degree in Syariah with Judicial Administration."

SHAH ALAM : Police have confirmed that the controversial eHati marriage motivation programme held last year featured an activity involving nudity. Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the nudity-related acts took place during the 'Queens Night' segment on the final day of the programme, held from Sept 27 to 30, 2024. 'There were two packages offered as part of the programme – Package A, priced at about RM6,000, and Package B, at about RM9,000, which included the Queens Night,' he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here today. This follows claims by a Facebook user alleging that a female speaker, initially dressed in a bikini, had stripped naked and danced with participants during the event's final night. They allegedly encouraged participants to follow suit, and remove their clothes after giving them a 'mysterious' drink. Hussein urged those involved in the programme to come forward and give their statements. He said six people have been arrested so far, comprising four women and two men, including two married couples. Police also seized several items, including liquids, as part of their investigation. Statements have also been recorded from 30 people, including the event's organisers and participants. Yesterday, police arrested Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, the founders of eHati International Sdn Bhd, and raided their home after they gave their statements at the police headquarters. The couple previously denied promoting obscene acts and insulting behaviour in their eHati marriage motivation programme, saying the activities were aligned with Islamic values. Police are investigating the programme under criminal laws covering obscene acts, modesty, and public decency.

MACC's offer to Teoh's family an insult, says Ramasamy
Urimai chairman P Ramasamy said the MACC chief should maintain his silence if he could not genuinely assist by identifying the parties responsible for Teoh Beng Hock's death. PETALING JAYA : Urimai chairman P Ramasamy this evening branded the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's offer of financial assistance to the family of the late Teoh Beng Hock as an insult. Ramasamy said Teoh's family was seeking closure, namely the identification and prosecution of those behind the death of the former aide to a Selangor assemblyman. 'The last thing the family needs is financial aid,' he said in a Facebook post. He said if MACC chief Azam Baki could not genuinely assist by identifying the responsible parties, he should maintain his silence. Azam should not think that the provision of funds would bring this tragedy to a close, he said. Earlier today, MACC offered to give a goodwill contribution to Teoh's family as a 'gesture of compassion'. Azam said the latest investigation found insufficient evidence to charge anyone in Teoh's death, but maintained that MACC took a serious view of the incident. He also apologised to the family for the pain and suffering they had endured over the years. Teoh died on July 16, 2009 at the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after being questioned for hours by MACC at its Selangor office in the same building. An inquest into his death was held and the coroner returned an open verdict. However, the Court of Appeal in 2014 ruled that Teoh's death was caused by 'one or more persons unknown', including MACC officers. In 2019, police launched an investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. Before 2018, two special investigation teams were set up – one in 2011 and the other in 2015 – to look into Teoh's death, but the outcome of both investigations were classified as 'no further action' by the public prosecutor. In 2015, Putrajaya paid RM600,000 to Teoh's family, as well as RM60,000 in legal costs, as part of a settlement over a civil suit filed by the family. The family had named the government and 12 others in the suit for negligence over his death.

Vietnamese online scammers busted in Sihanoukville
Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities inspecting a rented premises which was allegedly used to commit online fraud. - Provincial police commissioner PHNOM PENH: The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police Commissioner have reiterated their firm commitment to suppressing all crimes and maintaining security for tourists in the coastal province, particularly regarding online fraud. Last week, authorities detained over 40 Vietnamese nationals for cybercrime. According to the commissioner, on July 10 and 11, the provincial immigration police, in collaboration with the Provincial Administrative Command, conducted inspections at two rental properties located in Group 18, Village 5, Sangkat 4. They identified 43 foreign nationals, all of Vietnamese nationality. Authorities determined that the individuals were involved in online scam operations, using platforms such as Telegram, Facebook and fake websites like During the operation officers seized 13 passports, 16 computers, 16 mobile phones and 2 motorcycles as evidence.
