NCAA Tournament - High Point vs. Purdue Prediction: Odds, Expert Picks, Betting Trends and Stats

NBC Sports18-03-2025
No. 4 seed Purdue (22-11) takes the court Thursday against No. 13 High Point (29-5) in the first game of the day in the Midwest Region. High Point won the Big South Tournament while Purdue lost in the Quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tourney.
The High Point Panthers have won 14 in a row. They have not lost since an 82-80 loss January 16 at Longwood. The Boilermakers of Purdue have been far less consistent having won just four of their last ten games.
Kezza Giffa, a senior from Paris, leads the Panthers in scoring averaging 14.8 per game. 7'0' center Juslin Bodo Bodo, a sophomore from Cameroon is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game. Size or a lack of an interior presence has been an issue for Purdue this season. Point guard Braden Smith runs the show for the Boilermakers. He is second in the nation averaging 8.7 assists per game.
The winner earns the right to play the winner of Clemson vs. McNeese State.

MSU basketball considered a top 'talent' team in analytical rankings system

Michigan State basketball will have one of the most talented teams in the Big Ten next year, according to a popular analytical rankings system. For Michigan State, that ranking is in the top 15 nationally. Per a post from Ant Wright, Michigan State ranks No. 15 in national talent projection. Among Big Ten teams, that is No. 4 -- only behind Oregon (No. 10), Michigan (No. 11), Illinois (No. 12) and UCLA (No. 13). Interesting, Purdue is ranked No. 21 nationally in this metric, while the Boilermakers are considered the preseason top team nationally in some media outlets. Click here for a breakdown of how the Torvik rankings work. Overall, Michigan State comes in at No. 22 in the preseason Torvik rankings that include a number of other ranking metrics. Notre Dame football practice highlights from Friday shared on social media

Notre Dame football was back on the field Friday afternoon, and we found out some interesting news about star running back Jeremiyah Love and a potential role with the special teams unit. That wasn't all we saw, as there were more than a few clips of practice shared on social media. We got to see some of the Irish players getting back from injurIes, a few of the younger members of the team getting some run previewing the future, and a Tyler Buchner sighting. Check out some of the videos of Notre Dame Friday practice that were shared on social media below. Jeremiyah Love showing his hands The chatter connecting Love and the Heisman trophy might end up being more than that. If he actually does return kickoffs and has a few more opportunities through the air, he's going to New York City. Love's development into an all-around player has been a joy to watch, and this should be a massive season for him. Tyler Buchner with the 3rd-team offense Buchner transitioned back to the quarterback room to help out the younger potential starters in CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey, and while he's not in the running for the job, he can still make plays. He's connecting with a future Irish star in wide receiver Jerome Bettis Jr. Is Boubacar Traore back? This could be a huge development for Notre Dame if Traore is back to full-strength for the opener against Miami. Before his injury against Purdue, he was looking like a breakout star. It will have to wait until this season, but it's looking like he'll be ready to go. Can freshman James Flanigan earn playing time? Losing Kevin Bauman for the season hurt the depth chart at tight end, a position that already had a few questions marks about would step up next. It's not like this unit isn't talented, like the quarterbacks, they just don't have much experience at this level. Flanigan could be one to have an important role in the Irish offense if the others don't perform up to expectations. The future at offensive line Three young players on the Irish line are already gelling together in Houstan, Herron and Black. The former 5-star in Black has been taking reps inside as the coaching staff already feels confident that he can play tackle at this level. Flexibility among the offensive line is something that Joe Rudolph loves, as he's not afraid to play his top players regardless of what position they entered the program as. Jordan Botehlo continues to progress back from injury Another defensive lineman working back from an injury is Botelho, and while he might not have the same impact as Traore, his return will help with depth. The last team we saw him, he was favoring his left arm, and from this clip, it looks like he's getting closer to being fully healthy.
