Erin Blanchfield on Maycee Barber: 'She needs to fix her life'
UFC on ESPN 68 winner Erin Blanchfield talks to reporters post-fight after Maycee Barber was ruled out of their in main event due to a medical issue.
Less than 24 hours after a shocking and dramatic withdrawal from the UFC on ESPN 68 main event, Maycee Barber posted a bit of an explanation on social media.
Barber (14-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) was set to headline the card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas against Erin Blanchfield (13-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC). But just moments before she was set to walk out – video packages for the headliner already had been broadcast – she was not medically cleared to fight.
The women's flyweight bout was canceled literally in the final minute or two before the fighters were set to walk to the cage from the back – leaving even the broadcast team unsure what was happening.
Sunday, Barber had little to say on Instagram beyond an apology, but suggested what caused the incident was not expected. Barber included video taken backstage at the UFC Apex showing her being wheeled on a stretcher to an ambulance.
"Not what I had planned for a Sunday post," Barber posted. "Thank you to everyone for the prayers & support I owe an apology to @ufc @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @seanshelby & @blanchfield_mma ** PS my life is not messy this is just a bad hand. We will get to the bottom of it all and be back 🤍"
Fight week featured veiled comments by Blanchfield wondering if Barber would show up to the fight. Friday, Barber missed weight by a half-pound and declined an opportunity to cut the additional weight to avoid paying a penalty to Blanchfield.
At the ceremonial faceoffs just after the weigh-ins, the two had to be separated by matchmaker Sean Shelby, and their beef continued on social media later on in the day. But when fight time rolled around, Barber was unable to make the walk.
Blanchfield said after the fight she is not interested in rebooking a fight with Barber. Barber was set to fight for the first time in more than a year. Now that layoff will be extended indefinitely, it appears.

Ottis Anderson, Tiki Barber join growing list of greats to address New York Giants
Ottis Anderson, Tiki Barber join growing list of greats to address New York Giants The New York Giants continue to utilize their rich history to energize and inspire their current roster. So far this offseason, they've wheeled out such big guns as Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, Eli Manning, Justin Tuck, Victor Cruz, and Howard Cross. Over the past several practices or organized team activities (OTAs), Ottis Anders and Tiki Barber have taken turns addressing the team. Anderson, the Super Bowl XXV MVP and a folk hero for his ability to reinvent himself, stressed the theme of unity and family to the young Giants. Barber, the Giants' all-time leading rusher and a borderline Pro Football Hall of Famer, also imparted his wisdom to the team. Barber is currently a talk radio host on WFAN in New York, so his message is heard daily by millions of listeners. Asked last week about former Giants addressing the current team, head coach Brian Daboll stressed the benefit the words of wisdom provide. "It's something I thought about at the end of the season, getting ready for this upcoming season, some of the things I wanted to do. One of those was to bring some guys in, brought a number of them in," he said. "Give a good message about what it means to be a Giant for them and some different things that hopefully mean something to our players. "Obviously a lot of legends that have played the game for this organization and tremendous football players in the National Football League, and I have a good relationship with a lot of those guys throughout my time here and they're willing to come in and talk to those young guys. I think it's beneficial for them." The Giants are back on the field this week and it will be interesting to see who else speaks to the team.

(Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is tired of waiting for UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones to face him in a title unification bout. "Jon Jones is retired," Aspinall told Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen. "I want to say God bless him moving forward in what he does with his life and career. We move on. I'm the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I'm ready to take on all comers and get this division moving again. "Those guys have been waiting around too long. The contenders are getting sick of it. Everybody's getting sick of it. Even the fans are getting sick of this stuff. So, Jon's retired and it's time that we move on. "I'm the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I'm ready to take on all comers, get this division moving again. Us guys have been waiting around too long. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images) Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight crown in November 2023 with a knockout victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Aspinall took that fight on short notice when the original main event for that card, Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic for Jones's heavyweight title was scrapped following an injury to Jones. Despite Aspinall winning the interim crown, UFC CEO Dana White remained steadfast in saying that Jones vs. Miocic was the fight to make. That fight did not take place until November 2024. Jones held on to his belt that night, beating Miocic by TKO in the third round. By that time, Aspinall had already defended his interim crown, scoring a first-round knockout win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in July 2024. Aspinall has been waiting for the title unification bout with Jones since Jones's win over Miocic in November. In late April, Miocic became the longest-serving UFC interim champion, topping the 535-day reign of Renan Barao, who defended his interim title twice before being named undisputed champion. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC) In late April, UFC CEO Dana White addressed rumors about the Jones vs. Aspinall fight. 'Everything you hear is (expletive) until we (the UFC) say it,' White said of all the talk about Jones vs. Aspinall. 'I've said it many times, that's the fight we want to make this year.' White then added that he remains 'super confident' that Jones and Aspinall will meet in 2025 before adding, 'I've said since day one, this will be the biggest heavyweight in the history of the company and in the history of the sport. It's going to be a big one.' Tom Aspinall during the Heavyweight fight at the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester. Picture date: ... More Saturday July 27, 2024. (Photo by Richard Sellers/PA Images via Getty Images) 'I'm not looking to fight Jon Jones,' Aspinall said. 'I'm looking to fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship. That's what I want to be. I want to be the UFC undisputed heavyweight champion. I see a lot of people comparing me to Michael Chandler. Michael Chandler waited for a long time for Conor McGregor. I'm not waiting for one fight. I'm not trying to fight one guy. I'm trying to fight all the guys. I'm trying to be the guy at heavyweight who takes out everybody. 'It doesn't matter who it is. Ciryl Gane, [Alexander] Volkov rematch, [Jailton] Almeida, Derrick Lewis, Brock Lesnar, whoever it is, I don't care. I want to fight everybody, and I want to fight as much as possible, get some excitement back in this division. Let's not talk about Jon Jones anymore. All the best, the guy's living his best life. Full respect to him, wish him all the best in the future, he deserves all the money and success that he gets. I'm the active guy, I'm going to fight somebody, and that's going to be announced pretty soon.'

Alice Ardelean went all-in to get first UFC win: 'My face looks terrible'
Alice Ardelean went all-in to get first UFC win: 'My face looks terrible' Ardelean won Fight of the Night for her win over Rayanne Dos Santos to open UFC on ESPN 68 Show Caption Hide Caption Alice Ardelean went all-in to get first UFC win at UFC Vegas 107 UFC on ESPN 68 winner Alice Ardelean talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after her victory over Rayanne dos Santos in Las Vegas. LAS VEGAS – Alice Ardelean met the media Saturday after her win over Rayanne Dos Santos at UFC on ESPN 68. Ardelean (10-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) upset Dos Santos (14-9 MMA, 0-3 UFC) in their women's strawweight bout to open the event at the UFC Apex. Dos Santos was more than a 2-1 favorite, but Ardelean pulled off the upset for the first win of her UFC career – and walked away with Fight of the Night, too. "What a battle," Ardelean told MMA Junkie shortly after her win. "I feel amazing. I mean, my face looks terrible, but I feel amazing having my first win in the UFC – everyone's dream, and my dream came true." Ardelean's UFC tenure started with back-to-back decision losses in 2024. She said that left her with some question about if she had what it takes to fight at the UFC level. But Saturday may have answered those queries. "I had a lot of doubts – especially after my last fight. Straight away, after I came back from the cage, I was like, 'I'm done with this. It's too painful.' It's a lot of pain you take (as a fighter). But I said, 'You know what? I have one more chance. One more fight. Let's go. I'll put everything into it.' "I worked from the smallest thing to the biggest thing and said this is my last chance. If I don't get this, I might not be good enough and that's a thing – I have to accept it and move down and fight in some other events (outside the UFC), because I love fighting. This is my life. That was my thought, and I put everything into it. I'm proud of myself." Check out Ardelean's post-fight news conference in the video above.
