Dubai to build 17,080 affordable homes
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, on Wednesday approved a series of policies and initiatives aimed at expanding affordable housing, enhancing education outcomes and supporting independent legal professionals in Dubai, an Emirates News Agency (Wam) report said.
Sheikh Hamdan further said: "We are committed to offering a range of housing options and we welcome all ideas that contribute to a cohesive and prosperous society that embraces diversity — Dubai is a city for everyone.'
The initiative, which targets skilled professionals in Dubai, aims to develop more vibrant communities, support economic growth, create jobs, and improve access to quality housing and essential services for residents of all incomes. The first phase will develop six sites in Al Mueisim 1, Al Twar 1, Al Qusais Industrial 5, and Al Leyan 1. The new residential units will be offered at affordable rental rates, featuring thoughtfully designed, high-quality living spaces with access to key infrastructure and essential services.
The project will be overseen by the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning, and implemented by the Dubai Land Department, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, General Directorate for Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, Dubai Civil Defence, and Dubai Real Estate Corporation.
Sheikh Hamdan reaffirmed that Dubai's position as a leading global city stems from a vision centred on empowering individuals, families, and communities. It is a vision that enables access to opportunities, nurtures talent, promotes national values and identity, boosts knowledge, and encourages entrepreneurship, he said.
'Shaping the future and pursuing sustained growth through empowerment has long been a guiding principle for Dubai — it is a vision we continue to follow under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We are realising this vision through cross-sector collaboration, ensuring Dubai remains the destination of choice for the most ambitious global talent,' Sheikh Hamdan noted.
He also approved the Independent Legal Consultant Project — a flexible licensing model enabling Dubai citizens to practise legal consultancy independently, without the need to establish a physical office.
He commented: 'The legal profession is evolving, and we encourage Emiratis to explore the opportunities in this dynamic field. Dubai remains a hub for entrepreneurship, supporting innovative work models that promote work-life balance and enhance quality of life.'
The affordable housing project is in line with the Affordable Housing Policy approved by the Council, and the objectives of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

A grand mural portraying Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum overlook the property, with a steady stream of water pouring down. The water flows along the length of the property and comes from the Hatta Hydroelectric Plant. It is the largest mural of its kind in the world, and together with the waterfalls, it ties the project back to both legacy and sustainability. Hatta's new hotspot Buildings line the periphery of the area, which will soon be restaurants and retail shops. The area is currently open to the public, but the shops, according to the signs on the front, will be opening soon. These spaces are part of the 14 new investment opportunities reserved for Hatta residents, giving them priority to run cafés, restaurants, kiosks, and small businesses that reflect the local culture and support tourism. Crossing bridges Two bridges link one side of the area to the other, with the water gushing beneath them from the waterfalls. They connect not only the two banks but also the new development with the surrounding natural environment. Ministry of Education Unveils Major Updates for Academic Year 2025–2026
The Ministry of Education has announced sweeping reforms and readiness plans for the 2025–2026 academic year, aimed at strengthening national identity, modernising assessments, and preparing students for the future with an AI-driven curriculum. Speaking at a media briefing with the UAE Government Media Office, Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, confirmed that public schools are fully prepared for the year ahead. Key updates include the removal of centralised second-semester tests, replaced with school-based assessments to improve learning quality and student wellbeing. Project-based learning will expand to all Cycle 2 students, while a new standardised test will measure proficiency in Arabic, English, and mathematics. Arabic and Islamic studies will gain more teaching hours to reinforce national identity, with baseline Arabic assessments introduced in Grade 1. Federal Tax Authority Urges Businesses to File Corporate Tax Returns on Time
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has called on businesses subject to Corporate Tax to finalise their tax records, file returns, and settle payments within the specified deadlines to avoid penalties. The FTA reminded taxpayers that returns and payments must be completed within nine months from the end of the relevant tax period. This requirement also applies to exempt persons who are still obliged to register and submit annual declarations. Filing accurate tax returns and meeting deadlines is a legal obligation under the Corporate Tax Law. The authority stressed that non-compliance could result in fines and urged companies to begin preparations early by organising commercial licences, financial records, and details of business activities. The FTA highlighted that its EmaraTax digital platform provides a streamlined 24/7 service for registration, filing, and payment, with support also available through authorised tax agents.
