College World Series Schedule: Complete Saturday slate as LSU takes the field
LSU and Arkansas, the betting favorites to win the national championship, close out the first round of games on Saturday following two on Friday. UCLA and Murray State open the second day with an afternoon first pitch. The winners and losers of those matchups will face off early next week.

The Tigers took the regular season series against Arkansas at Alex Box Stadium in late May but the Razorbacks are loaded with MLB talent. The game will certainly resemble a championship atmosphere with fans of both teams expected in droves.
The Bruins made it to the Big Ten championship and have yet to lose a game in the NCAA Tournament. They play the Cinderella team in Murray State. After winning the Missouri Valley Conference, the Racers went 3-1 in the Oxford Regional then defeated Duke twice in the super regional.

One of which was the ever changing nature of the college basketball landscape and how he's been forced to change his philosophy on a number of things. Per a post on social media from college basketball insider and reporter Jeff Goodman, Izzo believes he has "adjusted" more than he thinks, and acknowledged that it wasn't always easy for him to make the necessary changes. 'I've adjusted to this new era more than I think," Izzo said during the coaching clinic. "Sure, there have been some rough spots. But players are the most important thing to me.' This past year's success on the court for the Spartans helps vindicate that statement from Izzo, with Michigan State claiming the Big Ten title by more than three games and reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. Hearing Izzo acknowledge that there have "been some rough spots" should also be promising for fans since it shows he isn't set in his old ways and is clearly adjusting to the new era of college basketball. New TV deal for Southland
The Southland Conference will get more exposure in the coming years. On Wednesday, the league announced it signed a multi-year agreement with CBS Sports to televise future league events on linear television. Starting in the 2025-26 season, CBS Sports Network will televise up to five men's basketball games annually, adding to the deal the league recently renewed with ESPN earlier this month. It is a big win for the conference and its commissioner, Chris Grant, who continues to try to build the league's brand on the regional and national levels. 'Adding CBS Sports to our media rights lineup is another huge win for the Southland,' said Grant in a statement. 'This partnership amplifies our momentum, puts even more of our incredible student-athletes on national television, and shows that the Southland brand continues to surge forward. We're thrilled to bring our basketball programs to an even bigger audience.' Southland men's basketball has been on the rise the last two years, thanks in large part to the elevation of the McNeese basketball program, which won its first NCAA Tournament game last season. Under head coach Will Wade, the Cowboys became a national sensation last season when they upset Clemson in the tourney. They fell to Purdue in the second round. After winning the last two Southland titles, Wade moved on to North Carolina State, while the Cowboys named Bill Armstrong the new head coach. The new deal with CBS Sports makes the Southland a growing mid-major league in terms of national exposure, something Grant has been trying to accomplish. 'Visibility is currency in college athletics,' added Grant. 'With CBS Sports joining ESPN as a Southland media partner, we're not just showing up—we're standing out.' The new deal will be a boost to McNeese, which is likely going to get more exposure as well as the league's current top dog. 'I'm thrilled about this new TV contract,' said McNeese State head coach Heath Schroyer. 'Not only did we get a new and better deal with ESPN, but having five more basketball games on linear TV is a game changer for the Southland. 'This enhances our brand as a conference in a way nothing else can.' Schroyer gave credit to his commissioner. 'What Chris Grant has done for this league in a very short amount of time is simply amazing,' Schroyer said. 'The league is in a great place, and this new contract with CBS signifies that. I couldn't be happier or more excited.' Saturday, the conference will be on center stage when Incarnate Word travels to Nicholls to help open the new football season on one of the ESPN networks. 'That game is a great opportunity for our league to showcase some of the talent we have,' said Grant. Last year, McNeese opened the season on ESPN linear at Tarleton State during Week 0.

New Purdue coach Barry Odom tries to make school's big investment pay off with dramatic turnaround
Three years after playing for a Big Ten title, the Purdue Boilermakers are starting over. They hope to snap the FBS' second-longest losing streak at 11, want to prove last season's 1-11 mark was the aberration and are counting on a new coaching staff and a flurry of transfers to quickly restore the luster to the Cradle of Quarterbacks. It's quite a responsibility for new coach Barry Odom but he says he is already seeing progress. 'The habits are starting to show up,' he said early in summer camp. 'We're not making the same mistake two days in a row. We're seeing some physicality at the line of scrimmage, both sides, and that's good to see.' Odom knows the signs after putting UNLV's moribund program on the national map with the first back-to-back bowls in school history. This job seems equally daunting following a forgettable season. Purdue had the two worst losses in school history and was the only Power Four school with fewer than two wins. Before hiring Odom, athletic director Mike Bobinski promised to invest fully in the new pay-for-play college world and Odom has made it pay off. While some mainstays left, most notably All-American safety Dillon Thieneman, lOdom added an FBS-high 51 transfers and has 82 new players. Other programs have successfully navigated massive transitions and now Odom is trying to help Purdue join the list. 'The whole locker room, even with the fresh set of guys, we've all come together fast,' said running back Devin Mockobee, the Boilermakers' only returning starter. 'I think we're just a solid unit of guys, not just a bunch of individuals trying to play by themselves. So we talk about expectations, the expectation is to win. Mock 4 Mockobee arrived on campus as a walk-on and earned his scholarship after breaking Purdue's freshman rushing record. Now Mockobee is chasing the Boilermakers career mark. He enters this season needing 534 yards to become the fourth 3,000-yard rusher in school history and 1,170 yards to surpass Mike Alstott (3,635) for No. 1 'It's about grit,' Mockobee said. 'It's about getting that extra yard when other guys aren't going to fight for it and doing that on a consistent basis.' Five for the show Five players were competing for the starting quarterback job including Odom's son Gary, a true freshman. Three transfers — Evans Chuba of Washington State, Malachi Singleton of Arkansas and Bennett Meredith of Arizona State — took snaps in spring practice. Ryan Browne made two starts last year and rejoined the mix this summer after playing spring ball at North Carolina. Odom said his decision ahead of the Aug. 30 season opener against Ball State would be based on several factors. 'We want to take care of the ball, move the ball, execute on third downs, score points,' he said. 'We want to play with mental strain, extra effort, toughness and competitiveness.' COVID hangover One lesson Odom took out of the COVID-19 pandemic was the importance of training players to perform at multiple positions. Back then, the defensive coordinator did it out of necessity because of the uncertainty who might be available. Since then, Odom continued cross-training players because he thought it made those players better. The schedule Schedule-makers didn't make it any easier this year for Purdue than last year. The Boilermakers open league play by hosting Southern Cal in Week 3. They visit No. 6 Notre Dame in Week 4 and after a manageable October have four brutal November games — trips to No. 14 Michigan and Washington sandwiched around a home game against No. 3 Ohio State. They also host No. 20 Indiana in the traditional season finale.
