Nagpur: Hudkeshwar police arrested four persons, including a moneylender, for kidnapping and brutally assaulting a property dealer over a financial dispute. The police rescued the victim from a farmhouse.
The arrested have been identified as Pravin alias Balu Burkewad, Nilesh Nagarkar, Nilesh Telkhande, and Rakesh Avachat. The action followed a complaint by Vishal Urkude (40), a resident of Rachna Colony, Pipla Road.
According to police, Vishal had borrowed Rs30 lakh from Balu in 2022 to fund his wife's job application process and his nephew's medical treatment. In return, he mortgaged a plot of four shops in Narsala.
Vishal claims to have repaid Rs13.4 lakh in instalments, but financial distress prevented him from continuing payments. Balu allegedly began pressuring him to transfer ownership of the mortgaged properties and had already taken possession of the shops.
On Tuesday morning, Balu and his aides allegedly abducted Vishal, thrashed him en route, and confined him at a farmhouse in Umbargaon, where the assault continued.

Mumbai court grants bail to high-end furniture businessman in Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion case
Mumbai: The Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday granted bail to Falgun Shroff, a key accused in the Rs 30 crore customs duty evasion racket unearthed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Shroff, the owner of Di Lusso Furniture LLP, was arrested on July 20 for allegedly importing high-end Italian luxury furniture by grossly undervaluing goods and evading customs duties. While granting bail, the court observed that Shroff had no prior criminal antecedents and cooperated with the investigation. The court noted that the DRI had already seized all documentary and electronic evidence, including emails, account books, and devices, during searches at Shroff's office and residence. The accused also deposited Rs 5 crore towards duty payment and expressed willingness to pay more, without admitting any liability, although his bank accounts are currently frozen, argued his advocate Sujay Kantawala. The court directed Shroff to be released on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with sureties and imposed strict conditions prohibiting him from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. The court remarked that further custodial interrogation was not necessary at this stage as the investigation into past imports will take considerable time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai DRI officials alleged that Shroff, along with co-accused Sambhaji Bhosale and Manoj Rai, imported premium furniture brands like Poltrona Frau, Fendi, and Minotti using shell companies and dummy Importer Exporter Codes (IECs). The syndicate allegedly fabricated invoices through front firms in Dubai and Singapore to undervalue imports, thereby suppressing customs duty liabilities. All three were released on bail. Officials said the racket has international ramifications and more arrests are likely as several dummy companies and overseas collaborators remain under the scanner.

TN man's wife missing plaint: Woman appears before Kerala HC, says she is not under detention
Kochi: High court on Monday dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed by a 62-year-old man from Nungambakkam in Chennai to trace his wife, who was allegedly detained by certain individuals. The petition was dismissed after the alleged detenue appeared before court and stated that she was neither under detention nor in any danger. She further deposed that she had never married the petitioner and that she did not wish to have any relationship with him, though they had been friends in the past. Accordingly, the bench of Justices Devan Ramachandran and M B Snehalatha dismissed the petition. The petitioner, a retired junior engineer of the Tamil Nadu electricity board, had alleged in the petition that his wife was under the illegal detention of one Joseph Steven of Thrissur and his associates for monetary gain. According to him, he had married the woman in 2022 after meeting her through a matrimonial website. She had friends in Kerala and frequently travelled to the state. In Jan this year, she travelled to Kerala, and they continued to communicate via WhatsApp until May. The petitioner stated that on June 6, a person identifying himself as G M Rao, claiming to be a lawyer, sent him a one-time view video showing a closed coffin and funeral rituals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I thought my dad was 'boring'. Subsequently, a woman identifying herself as Sophia, a nun at a church convent, contacted the petitioner, confirmed the death, and sent photographs of a burial ground. She also demanded Rs 10 lakh. Rao also claimed that the woman had entrusted him with the sale of her house, worth approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Pursuant to a prior HC direction, the police traced the woman and produced her before the court on Monday. During the interaction with the bench, she stated that she had staged the funeral scene, which was in fact for her aunt, to convince the petitioner that she had died so that he would stop stalking and following her. She said she never expected the matter to escalate to the level of a court proceeding. The petitioner, meanwhile, maintained that they had married in a church and produced documents in support of his claim. He alleged that the entire episode had been orchestrated by the woman, in collusion with some of her male friends, to swindle him out of more than Rs 2 crore, and that they had refused to return the money. He informed HC that he had already initiated legal proceedings against the woman and her alleged accomplices. In light of these allegations, HC reserved liberty to the parties to pursue appropriate legal remedies regarding the alleged swindling of money from the petitioner.
