The most beautiful villages in Britain, according to the Daily Mail, are:
Portmeirion, designed in the 1920s by architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, is an "Italian-style" village filled with tiny terracotta-roofed houses washed in bright colours and spread around a central piazza.

Aberdyfi, located in southern Gwynedd, is described as one of Snowdonia's "most attractive coastal villages", according to the Daily Mail.

The missing woman went to Cambodia to volunteer A backpacker has gone missing after jogging through a Tomb Raider-style temple complex. Lisa Girard, a French national, was on a solo long-distance run through the ancient Angkor Wat ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia when she suddenly disappeared on Saturday morning. She was last seen jogging in front of local children along a tree-lined path. Lisa was wearing a blue shirt printed with the word 'Cambodia' and a Cambodian flag in front, while her braided ponytail was held in place with a running headband. It comes after a mum left a 16-month-old baby home alone to die when she went on holiday. The Siem Reap Tourist Police said: "On August 2, 2025, this morning, there is a French foreigner, who was lost from the group at Tasom Temple point while running a marathon. If you see her, please contact the police." Lisa's friend, Noemie Martin, said the woman is still missing today, August 4. She said: "Lisa is still missing this morning. If you live in Siem Reap, feel free to go there and look in the forest and small paths around the area. "She disappeared between Srah Srang lake and the road on the South of Angkor Wat. She was following the road, she was not supposed to run in the forest. "Please also keep your eyes open in the city, in case you see her somewhere. Lisa has dark long hair, she has some tatoos on the arms, she was wearing a blue T-shirt (see pictures)." Noemie added they were asking drone operators to assist in the search. Lisa arrived in Cambodia in 2024 after reportedly hitchhiking her way through 15 different countries over four months. Lisa said she was volunteering for the French non-profit organisation Pour un Smile d'Enfant, which helps disadvantaged and out-of-school Cambodian children learn trades to escape poverty. She said in August 2023: "Once in Cambodia, I will volunteer for six months for the association Pour un Smile d'Enfant. It allows access to education for Cambodia's poorest children and adolescents." The Angkor Wat temple complex was the heart of the Khmer Empire in its most powerful period in the 12th century. It was prominently featured in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie. The scenes were shot at Ta Prohm temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where towering trees grow out of the ruins of the sacred building.

'Harry loves nothing more than showing people his favourite spots in Italy," a source told the Sun. 'He also loves art, and Kim has been a great source of inspiration.' Kim, who is based in New York, has shared updates on her trip to Italy on her social media. She snapped The Loggia Of Cupid And Psyche, which is a mural depicting a love affair, at the Villa Farnesina in Rome as well as photos of red peppers drying on the rooftops in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast. In June, Harry sparked rumours of a different romance as he was seen smooching a mystery woman at Glastonbury. The reveller at the world famous festival became the first woman Harry had been linked to since his split from actress Taylor. However, she does not have celebrity status of her own as it was revealed the woman who caught Harry's eye is a producer, believed to be called Ella Kenny. Harry was seen with Ella at 2:30am as they took in the festivities on Worthy Farm. The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker and his most recent ex, Taylor, called things off after a "make or break" trip to Japan. Speaking at the time, an insider said: "They went through a rough patch after their trip to Japan and are taking some time apart. He's been in America, and she's been in London. "They made a lovely couple, and it was obvious Taylor made Harry happy. Things have become strained recently, though, and they've taken some time out."

It earned a spot in the 2025 awards for the second year running after impressing with its "inspiring" showcase of Scottish history. The accolade places it in the top 10 per cent of listings globally that consistently earn positive reviews. Alexander McCall Smith first had the idea for The Great Tapestry of Scotland, which is a 143m-long work of art. It is currently the longest embroidered tapestry in the world, and was created by 1,000 volunteers over 50,000 hours. The tapestry tells the true story of Scotland's history, heritage, and culture from 8500BC to the present day, depicting key events that span back 12,000 years. This is testament to the passion, creativity, and hard work that our small team puts into creating a consistently five-star visitor experience Sandy Maxwell-Forbes It brings to life the country's history over 160 panels and is made up of 300 miles of wool. It is now displayed in the visitor centre on Galashiels' High Street, which opened in 2021. The description of the attraction on TripAdvisor says: "Scotland's textile traditions are just as important as its highlands and lochs. "You can learn all about the craft at The Great Tapestry of Scotland. Here, a community of 1,000 native weavers came together to hand-stitch a tapestry that tells the tale of Scotland, spanning centuries of local lore and history. Inside multi-million pound upgrade for popular Scots tourist attraction "Even more impressive: 300 miles of wool were used to make it—that's enough to stretch the entire length of Scotland. "The piece is on permanent display at Scottish Borders, where there's a visitors center, café, store, and weaving workshop." Sandy Maxwell-Forbes, the director at the centre, told The National that the team are "honoured" to have won a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award. They said: 'This is testament to the passion, creativity, and hard work that our small team puts into creating a consistently five-star visitor experience. I was overwhelmed by the size of the tapestry and the incredible history that was revealed in the stitches and the text beneath each piece." Top attractions for children in Scotland THE Great Tapestry of Scotland isn't the only attraction to have been named among the best in recent weeks. We recently revealed that Dynamic Earth, in Edinburgh, has been named the best children's attraction in Scotland. The world-class Science Centre and Planetarium takes visitors on a journey through space and time to reveal how planet Earth came to be. And Experts at ranked it the best place for families to visit that combined education with excitement. They said: "Take a journey through time at this immersive science centre. "Kids can explore Earth's past, present, and future — complete with a tropical rainforest, an icy glacier, and even a simulated space launch. "It's hands-on, interactive, and perfect for curious minds aged four and up." Other places mentioned in the rankings were Highland Wildlife Park, in Kingussie; The Kelpies, in Falkirk; and Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, in Edinburgh. Someone else wrote: "Simply can't describe how fantastic this was. The art, the craftsmanship, the skill! I will recommend this to everyone". While a fourth posted: "I visited the Great Tapestry of Scotland and was absolutely blown away by the amazing and intricate stitching!" And a fifth chimed in: "I can not praise the tapestry enough. The history of Scotland is beautifully depicted (and I'm English), events that I knew nothing of brought to life. The artistry, the stitching, the magic is wondrous. I wish we could have stayed longer." Mags Fenner, project manager BID for Galashiels, the town's business improvement district, told The National: 'This world-class attraction puts [[Galashiels]] on the map as a cultural destination and draws visitors from near and far. 'Local shops, cafés and restaurants have felt the benefit of increased footfall, with many visitors choosing to explore and support our high street after experiencing the tapestry. 'It's also been inspiring to see school children from across the region engage with the tapestry as a rich and accessible way to learn about Scottish and Borders history and culture. 'We're proud to have such a globally recognised centre at the heart of Galashiels."
