Amran began his engagements with Cambodian Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Kung Phoak, followed by Director General for Asean Cooperation at Indonesia's Foreign Ministry, Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro.
He later met with the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Eksiri Pintaruchi and Permanent Secretary (Asean), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei, Johariah Abdul Wahab.
Each meeting lasted more than 30 minutes.
The 58th AMM and related meetings, to be held under Malaysia's 2025 Asean Chairmanship themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' will feature 24 ministerial-level meetings, including engagements with Asean Dialogue Partners and Sectoral Dialogue Partners.
The event, from July 8 to 11, is expected to gather about 1,500 delegates, including foreign ministers from Asean member states, Timor-Leste, Asean Dialogue Partners, Asean Regional Forum (ARF) participating countries, Sectoral Dialogue Partners and senior officials from the Asean Secretariat.
Malaysia is hosting the AMM as part of its fifth Asean Chairmanship, having previously held the role in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015. - Bernama

By Yasmin Ahmad Zukiman KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) will be held today, in conjunction with the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings. The SEANWFZ meeting is expected to revisit ASEAN's long-standing efforts to preserve the region as a nuclear weapon-free zone, as outlined in the 1995 SEANWFZ Treaty. While all 10 ASEAN member states have ratified the treaty, efforts to secure the signatures of the five recognised nuclear-weapon states – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States – to the treaty's protocol remain ongoing. Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had previously stated that China and Russia have agreed to sign the protocol, while the United States is still reviewing the treaty. Also taking place today are the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) and the Drafting Committee of the ASEAN SOM, which will prepare the groundwork for ministerial-level discussions, including negotiating and finalising the Joint Communique which will be the key outcome document of the 58th AMM. The communique is expected to outline ASEAN's collective positions on regional integration, community-building and various regional and global issues. The 58th AMM and related meetings, to be held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' will feature 24 ministerial-level meetings, including engagements with ASEAN Dialogue Partners and Sectoral Dialogue Partners. The four-day summit, which begins tomorrow, will see multiple multilateral meetings being held, including post-ministerial conferences with global powerhouses. Wisma Putra secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin (pic) confirmed that all foreign ministers from Asean member countries and dialogue partners will be attending. 'Timor-Leste will also be attending this meeting as an observer,' he told the press during a curtain raiser session yesterday ahead of the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will open the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Related Meetings on Wednesday, which will be immediately followed by a plenary and retreat session. Other notable meetings being held include the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission. 'This remains a key focus at the Asean level, especially concerning whether nuclear weapon states will agree to the SEANWFZ protocol. 'Discussions are ongoing and there are indications we can achieve progress even though it has been a lengthy process,' Amran said. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had previously said China and Russia have agreed to become signatories to the SEANWFZ, while the United States is currently reviewing the treaty before signing. The protocol of the treaty commits states with nuclear weapons to respect SEANWFZ and not contribute to any act that violates the treaty and its protocols; to not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against states in the zone; and to not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons within the zone. Four trilateral meetings will also take place during the summit, involving Malaysia and the Asean Secretariat with Brazil, Norway, Switzerland and Turkiye. There will also be a signing ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in South-East Asia involving Algeria and Uruguay, with Amran saying more countries are showing interest towards being part of it. More than 10 Asean Post-Ministerial Conferences will be held during the four-day meeting, including meetings with China, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, South Korea, United States, United Kingdom and the European Union. The 26th Asean Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting, 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting, 13th Mekong-ROK Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, 32nd Asean Regional Forum and 16th Mekong-Japan Cooperation Ministerial Meeting will also be held. The Fourth Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development is also set to take place during this meeting with the Asean Foreign Ministers' Interface Meeting with the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Representatives also scheduled during the four-day meeting. Malaysia took over the Asean chairmanship on Jan 1 this year from Laos with the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability", reflecting the country's commitment to fostering a united and prosperous Asean. Anwar meets Vietnamese PM Chinh at BRICS summit in Rio
RIO DE JANEIRO: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the BRICS Leaders' Summit in Brazil. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with discussions spanning trade, energy, and maritime cooperation. Anwar was joined by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Also present was Datuk Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani, deputy secretary-general for Bilateral Affairs at Malaysia's Foreign Ministry.
