Kota Kinabalu: The Ambuyat Festival and Brunei Zapin Competition 2025 organised by the Persatuan Masyarakat Brunei Sabah (PMBS) Centre, will take place at the Dewan Kesenian Islam Pekan Membakut on June 22. The event's Organising Chairman Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim said this second edition of the festival jointly organised with Yayasan Dangsanak Sabah (YDS) and State Government agencies would be officiated by Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, who is also PMBS President. 'We are arranging various side events during the festival,' said Sapdin, who is also YDS Chief Executive Officer, while chairing the second committee meeting at the PMBS Headquarters in Kingfisher Plaza Likas, here, recently. Sapdin said in addition to stalls showcasing local Bruneian products, 10 stalls would also feature and sell products from Brunei Darussalam. 'This annual festival will provide opportunities for PMBS branches across Sabah to bring and sell their products to boost their economy,' he said. He added that 100 outstanding students from the Bruneian community, particularly children of PMBS members from various branches who excelled in the SPM and STPM examinations, would receive awards and recognition from YDS during the festival.

He urged branch leaders to nominate their outstanding members' children for shortlisting, with submissions to be sent to the association's Secretary-General Norhassan Ismail for evaluation by a selection committee. Meanwhile, over 20 PMBS branches are expected to participate in the Pesta Ambuyat competition in various categories, including Pertandingan Menumpah Ambuyat and Cecah Ternyaman, offering attractive prizes. Branches interested in participating can obtain entry forms, which will be distributed by the PMBS Women's Bureau through branch leaders soon. As for the Brunei Zapin Competition, this year's organisers will open participation to all interested branches. 'Last year, it was only for primary and secondary school students, but this time, we are opening it to all interested groups,' said the Organising Chairman Ahmad Osman. 'The organising committee will hold a meeting soon to determine the types of Zapin to be contested and the competition rules,' he added. The Brunei Zapin Competition aims to preserve Bruneian cultural traditions in the state. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? No electricity surcharge till end of year: ECoS

Published on: Thursday, June 12, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 12, 2025 Text Size: This means there will be no increase in electricity bills for any users in Sabah during the six-month period. Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has approved the implementation of the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) mechanism for the period of July to December 2025, which will exempt all electricity users in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan from any surcharge. The decision was made based on controlled generation costs, which do not necessitate the imposition of a surcharge on certain consumers, as was done previously, said the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), in a statement, Wednesday. Advertisement The ICPT is a mechanism under the Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) framework that allows for a review of electricity tariffs every six months, based on actual generation costs compared to projected costs during the regulatory period approved by the State Government. This implementation will benefit all consumers, including those under Public Distribution Licensees. This means there will be no increase in electricity bills for any users in Sabah during the six-month period. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Published on: Wednesday, June 11, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 11, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe ( pic ) has taken proactive steps to address congestion and operational concerns raised by logistics and transportation stakeholders at Sepanggar Port. Phoong conducted a follow-up visit to the port and met directly with operator DP World after receiving feedback from key associations including SABFFLA, PPLKKK, and FMM Sabah. Advertisement He was briefed on improvements, including the deployment of three new Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes, which have helped reduce berthing waiting times and improved wharfside operations. Despite these gains, congestion persists at the entrance and container yard due to a spike in export volume, with TEU growth reaching 11 per cent year-on-year as of May this year. DP World is set to roll out a Vehicle Booking System (VBS) in July to ease lorry traffic and reduce queuing times, while the Sepanggar Port expansion remains on schedule for completion by Q3 2026. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
