Kota Kinabalu: The Ambuyat Festival and Brunei Zapin Competition 2025 organised by the Persatuan Masyarakat Brunei Sabah (PMBS) Centre, will take place at the Dewan Kesenian Islam Pekan Membakut on June 22. The event's Organising Chairman Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim said this second edition of the festival jointly organised with Yayasan Dangsanak Sabah (YDS) and State Government agencies would be officiated by Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, who is also PMBS President. 'We are arranging various side events during the festival,' said Sapdin, who is also YDS Chief Executive Officer, while chairing the second committee meeting at the PMBS Headquarters in Kingfisher Plaza Likas, here, recently. Sapdin said in addition to stalls showcasing local Bruneian products, 10 stalls would also feature and sell products from Brunei Darussalam. 'This annual festival will provide opportunities for PMBS branches across Sabah to bring and sell their products to boost their economy,' he said. He added that 100 outstanding students from the Bruneian community, particularly children of PMBS members from various branches who excelled in the SPM and STPM examinations, would receive awards and recognition from YDS during the festival. Advertisement 'We will present cash prizes ranging from RM300 to RM500 per student, along with certificates of appreciation, as motivation for other students to emulate their success,' he said. He urged branch leaders to nominate their outstanding members' children for shortlisting, with submissions to be sent to the association's Secretary-General Norhassan Ismail for evaluation by a selection committee. Meanwhile, over 20 PMBS branches are expected to participate in the Pesta Ambuyat competition in various categories, including Pertandingan Menumpah Ambuyat and Cecah Ternyaman, offering attractive prizes. Branches interested in participating can obtain entry forms, which will be distributed by the PMBS Women's Bureau through branch leaders soon. As for the Brunei Zapin Competition, this year's organisers will open participation to all interested branches. 'Last year, it was only for primary and secondary school students, but this time, we are opening it to all interested groups,' said the Organising Chairman Ahmad Osman. 'The organising committee will hold a meeting soon to determine the types of Zapin to be contested and the competition rules,' he added. The Brunei Zapin Competition aims to preserve Bruneian cultural traditions in the state. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
