Ambuyat and Brunei Zapin fest set for June 22 in Membakut

Published on: Tue, May 20, 2025 Text Size: The 2025 Ambuyat and Zapin Brunei Competition, organised by the Brunei Community Association of Sabah (PMBS), will take place on June 22 at the Islamic Arts Hall in Membakut. The event, co-hosted by Yayasan Dangsanak Sabah (YDS) and state agencies, will be officiated by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin, who is also PMBS president. According to organising chairman Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim, the festival will feature food and product stalls from local and Brunei Brunei-based vendors, alongside traditional games such as Ambuyat scooping contests and tasting competitions with over 20 PMBS branches are expected to participate. A special highlight will be an award ceremony for 100 outstanding Brunei community students who excelled in the SPM and STPM exams. Each will receive RM300–RM500 and a certificate of recognition. Meanwhile, this year's Zapin Brunei dance contest is open to all interested groups, expanding beyond last year's school-only format. Competition categories and rules will be finalised soon. Entry forms for the various competitions will be distributed through PMBS Women's Bureau to branch leaders.

BEAUFORT: The Beaufort District Council is inviting residents of Beaufort and Membakut to participate in its Independence Day short video competition, which runs until Aug 30. Council Executive Officer Mohd Ainol Mohd Dun said the competition is open to all residents within the council's administrative jurisdiction. Participants must submit original, non-plagiarised videos that reflect the spirit of Independence Day. Advertisement Submissions are to be made via a Google Form available on the Beaufort District Council's official social media pages. Each video must not exceed three minutes, including montage sequences; be at least 90 per cent in Bahasa Malaysia, with other languages allowed for up to 10 per cent, and use creative formats such as acting, poetry recitation, short documentaries, or other artistic expressions 'The aim is to allow participants to express their patriotism and creativity through a format of their choice,' Mohd Ainol said. The competition began on August 15 and will close on August 30. Judges' decisions are final, and no appeals will be entertained. Prizes include first place: RM300, second place: RM250, third place: RM150 and three consolation prizes of RM100 each. Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State-level Kita Madani Carnival 2025 will take place from Aug 21 to 23 at Padang Istiadat, Tuaran, featuring nine major events designed to foster unity and promote the Malaysia Madani values. According to Mujahid Halpi (pic), Assistant Director of the Communication Services and Community Development Division under the Sabah Information Department, the carnival serves as a platform to unite Malaysians from all walks of life while enhancing public awareness of government initiatives under the Madani framework. Advertisement Among the carnival's highlights include Digital Race Merdeka @ Kelab Malaysiaku, Active Sports @ Madani, Fama Sales @ Agro Madani, Patriotic Star @ Madani singing competition, Government agency service booths, Fan Art @ Madani and Rahmah Sales offering essential goods at lower prices. The event will kick off with the Ukhuwah Madani Programme, officiated by Pantai Dalit Assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya on Aug 21. One of the crowd-pullers is expected to be the Patriotic Star @ Madani competition, where 30 early registrants will perform patriotic songs. The top three performers will move on to the finals.
