Sherlyana is Ratu Serimpak

She took home RM1,000, while runner-up Amirah Zarifah Azman of Kuala Penyu won RM800, and third place went to Nurul Izzati Fitri Alias from Tamparuli with RM600. Advertisement The colourful event saw participants dressed in traditional attire showcasing their cooking skills, with the aroma of dishes filling the venue as local singer Ayu Damit performed throughout. Dishes were judged on presentation, taste, creativity and decoration by senior lecturers Dr Adilah Md Ramli of Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Dr Mohammad Halim Jeinie of Universiti Teknologi MARA Sabah. The contest, offering RM2,400 in total prizes, also aimed to promote Malaysia's intangible cultural heritage through traditional food while strengthening unity and cultural awareness. Sago worm photo wins Heritage Food Digital Photography Contest
Angela (center), Rusni (left), and Mazlan hold their prize money.-Information Department photo TUARAN (Aug 10): A photo themed on sago worm, captured by Rungus girl Angela Jene Jasni, won the top prize at the Digital Photography Competition for Heritage Food. The competition, organized by the National Heritage Department, was held in conjunction with the 2025 Bajausama Ethnic Cultural Festival at the Sabah Bajausama Ethnic Cultural Center on Saturday. Second place was won by Rusni Talok with a photo of Ambuyat meal set, while Mazlan Madurin secured third place with a photo themed on Ikan Singgang (poached fish). The prize presentation was officiated by Deputy Secretary-General (Culture) of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff, on Sunday. Also held was the presentation of appreciation certificates to participants of the Heritage Taste Exhibition@Sabah Food Demonstration and Sampling, presented by the Secretary-General of the Sabah Bajausama Ethnic Association, Datuk Kassim Razali.

Sherlyana wins Heritage Taste Queen Serimpak Competition

Runner-up was Amirah Zarifah Azman from Kuala Penyu, while third place went to Nurul Izzati Fitri Alias from Tamparuli. The vibrant competition featured 20 participants dressed in traditional heritage attire while showcasing their cooking skills. The aroma of cooking filled the competition space, accompanied by performances from local artist Ayu Damit throughout the event. The experienced judging panel was tasked with evaluating based on presentation, taste, creativity and decoration criteria. They consisted of senior lecturer from the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Dr Adilah Md. Ramli, and senior lecturer in Culinary Arts, Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (UiTM) Sabah, Dr Mohammad Halim Jeinie. Beyond being a competitive platform, the competition with a total prize value of RM2,400 also carried the significant mission of elevating the intangible cultural heritage of the Department of National Heritage through traditional food, while simultaneously strengthening the values of unity and awareness of local culture. The first-place winner took home RM1000 in cash, followed by RM800 for second place and RM600 for third place. The three-day program was also enlivened by various interesting activities, including demonstrations and sales of Sabah heritage foods such as Ambuyat, Busou, Linopot Rice, Sambal Tuhau, Sagun Borneo, Penaram cakes, and foods that have received UNESCO recognition as Malaysian breakfast culture: teh tarik and roti canai. Also present at the ceremony were the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot; Secretary General of the Sabah Bajausama Heritage Association, Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali; and Director General of the Department of National Heritage, Mohamad Muda Bahadin.

Ambuyat and Brunei Zapin fest set for June 22 in Membakut
Published on: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 Published on: Tue, May 20, 2025 Text Size: The 2025 Ambuyat and Zapin Brunei Competition, organised by the Brunei Community Association of Sabah (PMBS), will take place on June 22 at the Islamic Arts Hall in Membakut. The event, co-hosted by Yayasan Dangsanak Sabah (YDS) and state agencies, will be officiated by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin, who is also PMBS president. According to organising chairman Datuk Sapdin Ibrahim, the festival will feature food and product stalls from local and Brunei Brunei-based vendors, alongside traditional games such as Ambuyat scooping contests and tasting competitions with over 20 PMBS branches are expected to participate. A special highlight will be an award ceremony for 100 outstanding Brunei community students who excelled in the SPM and STPM exams. Each will receive RM300–RM500 and a certificate of recognition. Meanwhile, this year's Zapin Brunei dance contest is open to all interested groups, expanding beyond last year's school-only format. Competition categories and rules will be finalised soon. Entry forms for the various competitions will be distributed through PMBS Women's Bureau to branch leaders.
