'Salim Pistol,' India's Most Wanted Arms Supplier, Arrested In Nepal
According to officials, Salim Pistol was arrested by the Delhi Police special cell and Indian security agencies in a joint operation with the Nepal Police.
For years, Salim had been supplying sophisticated weapons from Pakistan into India. Investigators have found evidence linking him to Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, and Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company.
Salim Pistol was a key supplier of arms to top gangsters, including Lawrence Bishnoi and Hashim Baba. His name surfaced in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case as well.
He was arrested by Delhi Police in 2018, but later managed to flee abroad. Recently, intelligence inputs indicated that he was hiding in Nepal. Acting on the tip-off, security agencies tracked him down and arrested him.
A resident of Seelampur in Delhi, Salim's name had earlier cropped up in the Baba Siddiqui murder case. His network spanned across India and Pakistan.
According to the police, Sheikh Salim, a resident of Jafrabad in Delhi, dropped out of school after completing Class 8 and initially worked as a driver.
Salim's criminal career spans decades, beginning with vehicle theft in 2000 when, along with his associate Mukesh Gupta alias Kaka, he stole multiple vehicles. He was arrested on May 25, 2000, and booked under sections 379, 411, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Over a decade later, he was implicated in a high-profile armed robbery in Jafrabad on August 7, 2011, involving Rs 20 lakh. He was eventually arrested on September 18, 2013, and charged with offences under sections 395 and 397 of the IPC.

Madras High Court orders commencement of trial
The Madras High Court on Monday (August 11, 2025) ordered the commencement of trial in a 10-year-old defamation suit filed by former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni seeking ₹100 crore in damages from Zee Media Corporation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G. Sampath Kumar, and News Nation Network for having dragged his name in to the IPL betting scam. Justice C.V. Karthikeyan also appointed an advocate commissioner to record the evidence of Mr. Dhoni on mutually convenient premises, to all the parties involved and their counsel, in Chennai. The advocate commissioner was appointed as Mr. Dhoni's personal appearance at the High Court, for the examination in chief as well as cross-examination by the defendants, might lead to chaos due to him being a celebrity. The orders were passed after senior counsel P.R. Raman submitted an affidavit sworn by Mr. Dhoni expressing his intent to proceed with the trial in the defamation suit pending since 2014. The cricketer said that he would be available for examination as well as cross-examination between October 20, 2025, and December 10, 2025, and that the venue and specific dates could be fixed on the basis of mutual convenience. 'The above request is made with the intent to avoid any undue delay (in disposal of the suit pending in the High Court for over a decade) and to support the fair, just, and speedy adjudication of the suit. I state that I shall extend my full co-operation with the Advocate Commissioner and comply with all directions issued by this honourable court regarding the trial and the recording of evidence,' the affidavit read. When Mr. Raman, assisted by advocate Sandesh Saravanan, requested the court to consider appointing a retired district judge as an advocate commissioner for recording evidence, Justice Karthikeyan said that he would pick a name from a list maintained by the High Court. He also stated that the defamation suit would be listed for hearing before the court after the completion of recording of evidence in full. The trial in the suit had got delayed for over 10 years because of multiple applications taken out by the parties seeking one relief or another. In December 2023, a Division Bench of Justices S.S. Sundar (since retired) and Sunder Mohan had convicted the retired IPS officer of criminal contempt of court and sentenced him to 15 days of simple imprisonment. However, the Supreme Court stayed the punishment in 2024. Mr. Dhoni had filed the contempt plea against the retired IPS officer for having made contumacious remarks against the Supreme Court as well as the High Court while defending the defamation suit. In July 2022, the then Advocate General R. Shunmugasundaram had granted permission to the cricketer to proceed with the contempt plea, after being satisfied that the remarks made by Mr. Kumar, in his written statement to the suit, amounted to scandalising court proceedings.

Kerala Doctor Duped Of Rs 4.43 Crore In WhatsApp Trading Scam, Two Arrested
The Kerala police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. A doctor in Kerala was scammed of Rs 4.43 crore after falling victim to a fraudulent WhatsApp scheme. The state's cybercrime unit has arrested two men in connection with the case, according to officials quoted by IANS. The accused have been identified as Mehbubasha Farooq and Rijaz, and they were arrested in Chennai by the Kannur City Cyber Crime Police. While Farooq hails from Chennai, Rijaj is a resident of Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district and has been settled in Chennai. The two accused allegedly ran a scam via WhatsApp, luring the victim with promises of high returns from investments in a fake online trading platform. According to police, the accused added the doctor — a resident of Mattannur in Kerala's Kannur district — to a WhatsApp group in June, where they promoted an online share trading scheme and promised large profits. The victim was asked to send money to several bank accounts under the pretext of a 'wealth profit plan' linked to a fictitious company named Upstock. 'We have traced about Rs 40 lakh deposited by the accused in their accounts. Besides this, the police detected as many as 18 more accounts in the name of various individuals to transfer the money earned through online fraud. The matter is under investigation now," said the officer. He also confirmed that no links to terrorism had been uncovered during the inquiry. Though the trading app would show the profits earned, he found the platform unresponsive and could not withdraw the amount, prompting him to approach the police to file a complaint with the police on June 25. 'The victim was led to believe he was making lucrative investments, but the entire setup was a sham," the cyber police said. The incident came to light after the cybercrime team tracked down the suspects by following the trail of bank account numbers and mobile phones used in the fraud. A deeper investigation led them to Chennai, where the two accused were arrested. The officer added that they are now looking into whether a larger network is involved and if there are more victims connected to the online scam. Airbnb 'Superhost' Fakes Photos To Accuse Guest Of Damage Worth Rs 14 Lakh
A woman in London faced false damage claims after leaving a NYC Airbnb early. Recently, a rather unusual incident occurred involving a woman from England while she was in the United States of America. She had booked an Airbnb, but as she was preparing to leave, the host accused her of causing damage, leaving the woman astonished. She subsequently provided evidence that ultimately revealed the truth. The Booking And Early Departure A woman from London had booked a one-bedroom flat in Manhattan, New York, for two and a half months via Airbnb. According to a report by The Guardian, the incident took place earlier this year. The woman ended her stay after just seven weeks, citing an unsafe environment, and cut her booking short. Shortly after her departure, the host accused her of causing damage worth $16,000 (around Rs 14 lakh), claiming she had broken the coffee table, left urine stains on the mattress, and damaged the robot vacuum, sofa, microwave, television, and air conditioning unit, backing these claims with several photographs. The woman denied all allegations made by the Airbnb host. She explained that only two visitors had come to see her during her stay. Upon examining the photos of the coffee table closely, she noticed that the damage appeared different in each image. She suspected that the photos were either artificially generated or doctored. The woman believed the host was retaliating due to her early departure. As the host was classified as a 'Superhost', the situation was particularly serious. Initially, following what Airbnb described as a 'thorough investigation" of the photos, the woman was asked to pay over $7,000 (approximately Rs 6.13 lakh). The Appeal And Evidence Presented The woman appealed the decision, providing testimony from an eyewitness who was present during her checkout and could confirm that the property had been left clean and undamaged. She highlighted inconsistencies in the photos that would be impossible in original, unaltered images of the same wooden table. She commented, 'Such an obvious error should have immediately invalidated the host's claims, but Airbnb neither acknowledged nor considered my evidence." Five days after Guardian Money intervened, Airbnb accepted her appeal and credited £500 (around Rs 58,000) to her account. When she announced she would no longer book through Airbnb, the company offered her a refund of £854 (around Rs 1 lakh), which was only one-fifth of the total booking cost. She declined this offer. Resolution And Apology Ultimately, the woman was refunded the full booking amount of approximately £4,269 (around Rs 5.3 lakh), and the negative review posted by the host was removed. Airbnb apologised to the woman for the ordeal and promised to conduct an internal investigation. The host received a warning for breaching platform rules and was informed that repeated complaints could lead to their removal from Airbnb. The company issued a statement saying, 'We take claims of damage very seriously. Our expert team examines all available evidence to ensure a fair decision for both parties. There is also an option to appeal decisions."
