An extra few glasses of rosé or a few Easter eggs too many may have stopped your weight-loss goals in their tracks, but don't allow that to cause your motivation to flag. That is the message from Dr Amy Aherne, a researcher in the prevention of obesity at the University of Cambridge Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology Unit, and her colleagues, who have spent decades researching the small lifestyle changes that make a difference to our weight.
Even those using appetite-suppressing jabs such as Ozempic and Wegovy need a similar mindset, Aherne says. Such drugs may have helped people to lose up to 20 per cent of their body weight but, she says, they 'are not a silver bullet' in the long term. 'We know

Inside Pope Francis' final hours including heartfelt last words and farewell gesture to nurse

The nurse who cared for Pope Francis throughout his illness has revealed how the pontiff spent his final hours and some of the last words he uttered before he died. The 88-year-old died on Monday morning at the Domus Santa Marta hotel where he lived at the Vatican after suffering a stroke that led to a coma and heart failure . His death came almost a month after he returned to the Vatican after being hospitalized for double pneumonia. Just hours before his death, Francis made his final public appearance to celebrate Easter Sunday. He appeared frail and delegated the celebration of the Easter Mass to a cardinal but still blessed a crowd and made a surprise ride in the square in his popemobile. "Thank you for bringing me back to the Square," the pope said, according to Strappetti. The nurse, who was appointed as Francis' personal healthcare assistant in 2022, had been by the Pope's side during his 38-day hospitalization at Rome's Gemelli Hospital and had watched over him during his recovery at the Casa Santa Marta. He was also with the Pope on Easter Sunday. On Saturday, they had traveled to St Peter's Basilica together to review the "route" Francis would take. The late Pope wished to offer a final meaningful surprise to the devoted crowd with a ride in his popemobile following the blessing on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica façade on Sunday but was unsure if he'd be capable. After receiving Strappetti's encouragement, the Pope carried out his final ride and used some of his last words to thank the nurse for bringing him back to the square. Continuing to detail the Pope's final moments, Strappetti revealed that he rested on Sunday afternoon before having a quiet dinner. At around 5.30am the first signs of his illness began to appear and those watching over him responded immediately. Around an hour later, the Pope made a farewell gesture with his hand to Strapetti and while lying in a bed in his second-floor apartment at the Casa Santa Marta he fell into a coma. Those surrounding him in his final moments said his death was discreet, happened quickly and that he did not suffer.

RFK Jr makes wild claim over teenage boys' testosterone and even Jesse Watters is baffled

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr has made some outlandish claims since assuming office earlier this year, including claiming that autism can be cured and describing a recent outbreak of measles among unvaccinated people as "not unusual." Now Kennedy has taken up his latest health crusade, this time involving teenage boys' testosterone. During an appearance on Fox News' Jesse Watters Primetime on Tuesday, Kennedy claimed the testosterone levels in teenage boys have dropped significantly over the last several decades. "A teenager today, an American teenager today has less testosterone than a 68-year-old man," Kennedy said, prompting Watters to grin and laugh at the assertion. "Sperm counts are down 50%." Despite Watters's reaction, Kennedy's claims are not completely unfounded, although he may be off about the exact figures. While research on this specific subject is limited, one study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism suggested testosterone levels in men have been dropping by 1% every year since 1980. This is nowhere near the 50% figure RFK Jr is claiming. While the causes of this potential drop in testosterone levels have yet to be identified, it's been long understood that testosterone levels naturally decrease as a man ages. However, a study published in the Urology Times Journal found similar results, noting that testosterone levels have dropped among young adult males from 1996 to 2020. The study notes that a number of causes could be responsible for this drop, including obesity and a lack of physical activity. Despite these studies, RFK did not mention them during his interview with Watters, presenting them as if they were his opinion rather than an empirical fact. Kennedy has made a number of specious medical claims since taking office, despite holding no medical degree of any kind. These assertions include claiming that autism is a "disease" that can seemingly be cured, despite most mental health and medical professionals categorizing autism spectrum disorder as a developmental disorder. There are no blood or biological tests for autism; it is diagnosed by making judgments about a child's behavior. Research has looked at a variety of other possible explanations, including genetics, the age of the father, the weight of the mother and chemicals in the environment. A fraudulent single study that claimed a link between the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine was later retracted by the journal that published it. Kennedy recently announced a major study into the cause of autism and told an April 10 Cabinet meeting: 'By September we will know what has caused the autism epidemic and we'll be able to eliminate those exposures.' But last week, he softened that to having 'some of the answers by September.'

Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 88 The Vatican's chief physician, Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, revealed that Francis succumbed to a cerebral stroke which resulted in a coma and ultimately irreversible cardiac failure. Arcangeli also noted that the pope had struggled with respiratory insufficiency, bilateral pneumonia, and ongoing health issues such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Vatican health officials have reported that Pope Francis seemed to wake up after his 6am alarm but became ill about an hour later; he was declared dead around 7:30am and doctors noted that his passing was peaceful. In a profound moment of solemnity, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, officially announced the pope's death, sending 1.4 billion Catholics around the world into deep sorrow. "At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father," proclaimed Farrell, who also stated: "With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Triune." Earlier in February, it was revealed that the venerated religious figure had been hospitalized at Gemelli Hospital for respiratory troubles, eventually diagnosed with double pneumonia. This stay marked his longest hospitalization throughout his twelve-year tenure as pontiff, lasting 38 days. Recently, while on state business in Italy, U.S. Vice President JD Vance had the fortune of meeting Pope Francis. During their encounter, the pope bestowed Vance's children with three sizeable chocolate Easter eggs and gave Vance a Vatican tie along with rosaries. In return, the vice president's office issued a thank you statement, noting that Vance "expressed his gratitude to Pope Francis for inviting him to meet on Easter Sunday and for the hospitality the Vatican has extended to his family." The air in St. Peter's Square was electric with Easter festivities when out of the blue, Pope Francis appeared in the popemobile, bestowing his blessings upon the assembled crowds. His appearance ignited cheers and applause. Shouts of "Viva il Papa!" and "bravo" echoed as the pope circulated the fringes of the square in his emblematic vehicle, pausing to give blessings to infants brought towards him. The Pontiff's buoyant declaration, "Brothers and sisters, Happy Easter!" reverberated among the gathered congregation.
