SP urges for legal resolution of public grievances
Anantapur: District Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh directed police officials to resolve public grievances within the legal framework in a manner that ensures petitioners' satisfaction.
As part of the Public Grievances Redressal System (PGRS) held on Monday at the District Police Conference Hall, a total of 103 petitions were received from people across Anantapur District. He personally received the petitions, interacted directly with the complainants, and assured them of thorough resolutions. He instructed concerned police officials via Zoom to immediately address the grievances and take necessary legal action to ensure justice for the petitioners.
Emphasizing the importance of public complaints, the SP urged officials to avoid negligence and resolve issues promptly. The petitions covered a variety of matters including family disputes, land issues, and financial problems. Women DSP S Mahaboob Basha also participated in the programme.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced on Wednesday that population census along with the enumeration of castes will be conducted in two phases from March 1. Akhilesh quoted MHA announcement to claim that when the people's headcount will be done in UP, PDA government will be in place in the state as SP's victory in 2027 assembly polls. "June 4 is that historic day in Indian politics on which exactly one year ago the unity of PDA community registered a sweeping victory over communal politics of negativity. The date marks the beginning of a new chapter in Indian politics which is receptive to human sensitivities and believes in communal amity," Akhilesh said in a statement. In the run up to 2024 polls, SP focussed on bringing together PDA – comprising Pichrde (Backward classes), Dalits and Alpsankhyaks (Minorities) and the move paid rich dividends. SP had emerged as the single largest party in UP with 37 seats – its best ever performance. "PDA's unity will prove to be a milestone in building the future of the county. The PDA of today comprise every Pirdit (those subjected to sufferings), Dukhi (unhappy) and Apmanit (humiliated) backward class member, Dalits and minorities. It also includes "Aadhi Abadi" (exploited women), exploited tribals, poor farmers, labourers, businessmen, unemployed youth and every section of the society that has been subjected to neglect of the BJP government," Akhilesh said. "All deprived, neglected sections of the society are coming together to form the PDA family," the former UP CM said. Akhilesh said PDA was the future of India and every Pirdit was an integral part of the PDA.

The chatters have also grown on social media with people claiming that the NCP-NCPSP merger could take place in June itself and thus, the BJP-led NDA's number in the Lok Sabha may go beyond the 300 mark. Notably, the NDA has 293 seats in the Lok Sabha and if the NCPSP joins the alliance, then its tally will go to 301 with the eight seats of Shara Pawar's party. NCP-SP's merger or joining of the NDA will deal a big jolt to the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra where the Congress and Shiv Sena-UBT are largely dependent on the NCP-SP in regions like Western Maharashtra and Marathawada.

Framer sets himself ablaze at Dharmapuri SP office
DHARMAPURI: A farmer set himself ablaze while lodging a petition at the office of the superintendent of police here on Wednesday. He is battling for life with 60% burn injuries at the Dharmapuri Govt Medical College and Hospital. According to a police officer, G Jayaraman, 52, of Raja Thoppu area near Adhiyamankottai in the district visited the SP office to complain about the lack of progress in a cheating case he lodged with the Adhiyamankottai police in May. 'Jayaraman owns 1.5 acres of agricultural land and operates a poultry farm. As he was facing financial difficulties, he sought his neighbour M Selvaraj's help to pledge his land deed and secure some money. 'Selvaraj, 48, subsequently mortgaged Jayaraman's property for Rs10 lakh. He, however, handed over only Rs 3 lakh to Jayaraman, who lodged a police complaint against Selvaraj. The Adhiyamankottai police conducted an inquiry and managed to retrieve only one document from Selvaraj,' the officer said. Frustrated by the lack of progress in the case, Jayaraman visited the SP office on Wednesday to escalate the issue, he said. 'Jayaraman was waiting on the SP office premises. In a sudden act of desperation, he doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire. We promptly extinguished the flames and rushed him to the Dharmapuri Govt Medical College and Hospital,' the officer said. A doctor said Jayaraman's condition was critical. The Dharmapuri town police have registered a case and are inquiring.
