North Wexford carers honoured for bringing ‘care, joy and connection' to their clients
The National Day of Joy – an important day in the calendar each year to celebrate all the simple, everyday moments that lift spirits and brings people closer together
Collette Gleeson, CEO of Comfort Keepers praised the hard work of all the carers put in to ensure independence for their clients. 'What our teams do is much more than daily support, and the impact of our home care and support services on people around the country is profound. Each of our carers brings care, joy and connection into their clients' homes every day, while helping them to stay independent, confident, and part of the communities they love.
CEO Collette Gleeson said the annual celebration is an important opportunity to 'honour the incredibly hardworking and passionate members of our teams'.
As part of its National Day of Joy, Comfort Keepers teams delivered flowers and celebration packs to clients, and hosted parties in Comfort Keepers' offices and in the homes of those they care for across Ireland.
The company also marked 20 years of uplifting homecare and celebrated being named the All-Ireland Champion Home Care Company 2025 by the All-Ireland Business Foundation, for the second consecutive year.
Client Care Supervisor, Hayley O Brien highlighted the importance of recognising care work in the local community. 'Its hugely important that they're recognised. Its just something to give back to the carers who give to people every day.
'What they [carers] do day in day out and everything they do that goes unnoticed. I would say they're kind of the unsung heroes of our community' Hayley stated.
In addition, Anne-Marie Lonergan was one of ten regional winners of this year's Carer of the Year Awards celebrated on the day as she has worked in the caring sector for almost three decades. Hayley O Brien further praised her dedication to the job. 'We are incredibly proud of Anne Marie – well deserved recognition of her outstanding compassion and commitments to her clients'.
Comfort Keepers provides a wide range of services including personal care and companionship, disability support, and Dementia and Alzheimer's care, overnight and 24- hour care, and light homemaking/housekeeping support overseen by its clinical nurse management team, for any individual, including older adults, who wants to stay in their own homes for as long as possible.
Established in 2005, Comfort Keepers has grown to nearly 2,000 employees and has become a trusted name in Irish home care. It is a HSE-preferred provider of homecare and support services with 15 locations all across the country including Wexford.

Tipperary lotto player becomes a millionaire in special draw
The July 5 lotto draw saw a player in Clerihan, Tipperary win €1,000,000 in a special Lotto Plus Raffle event after purchasing their ticket at Ely's Centra in Clerihan village earlier this week. Speaking on the win, store owner Robert Ely said: 'We took over the shop just two years ago, so this win feels like the perfect anniversary surprise! It's incredible to think that a life-changing ticket was sold right here in our store. "Huge congratulations to the winner, we're absolutely delighted for you and wish you all the best of luck. Ryanair wants the EU to reform air traffic services after French strikes cancel 400 flights
RYANAIR HAS CALLED for urgent reform of air traffic services from the EU, as it says it was forced to cancel over 400 flights this past week. French air traffic controllers went on strike as summer holidays kicked off this week . The two unions behind the industrial action called for better working conditions and to protest against 'chronic understaffing'. France's DGAC aviation authority said 933 flights departing from or arriving at French airports were cancelled on Thursday, with around 1,000 flights cancelled on Friday. The strikes have continued this weekend. Of these, Ryanair said its 400 cancelled flights disrupted the travel plans of over 70,000 passengers. In the Ryanair statement released this morning, the Irish budget airline called on von der Leyen to take urgent action to reform EU ATC services by ensuring that ATC services are fully staffed for the first wave of daily departures, and by protecting overflights during national strikes. Advertisement It argued that these two reforms would 'eliminate 90%' of all air traffic delays and 'protect EU passengers from these repeated and avoidable ATC disruptions due to yet another recreational French ATC strike'. Ryanair said it was renewing its call for European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen 'to quit if she will not take action to urgently reform' EU air traffic control services. It added that a 'tiny handful' of French air traffic controllers had caused 'mass delays across Europe' by engaging in two more days of strikes this weekend. UNSA-ICNA, the second biggest labour group in the sector, launched the action to protest against 'chronic understaffing', the planned introduction of a clock-in system, outdated equipment and 'toxic management practices that are incompatible with the requirements of calm and safety'. It was joined by the third largest union, USAC-CGT but the main union, SNCTA, has not joined the action. 'It is completely unacceptable that two or three French Air Traffic Controllers can simply decide to extend these recreational French ATC strikes without any notice and ruin the travel plans of thousands of EU passengers and their families over one of the busiest travel weekends of the year,' a spokesperson for Ryanair said. 'Meanwhile EU President Ursula von der Leyen has failed to take any action to reform Europe's ATC service,' the spokesperson said, adding that she had 'failed' for the last 6 years.
